Ok, was replying to a thread on ES about this and came up with an idea. (Also linked to the Otas HQ thread here)

I believe special stations should have these (essentially station guns).

All you need is a stationary Base with a turret (1x2 or 1x4 guns, or 2x2 prob best) The turret should have 180 degree coverage. All turrets would need to be on the same side of the platform.

You then deploy these only via script. And use script to point the turret side away from the station. As the platform cant move or turn itself this will remove the issues of hitting the station. I can also easily link these into the shields of the station. The platforms would also have a compliment of missiles to deal with any ships that got in "behind" the defense grid. Ideally should also be small as to avoid some incoming fire, tho if this hits the station anyway then the net effect will be the same.

What about the collision avoidance issues? Is that resolvable?

how does the collision avoidance works exactly? if a ship can be stopped exactly in the position it is and make something to prohibit it to move, even on it's axes i've an idea that could work

just make a non-playable ship, with the turret shae, and spawn it on the surface of the station, if the collision avoidance doesn't give problems... the ship itself would be a dummy that houses one or more gun in it's turrets (top&down or left&right...), supportated by the station but not fisically at contact with it

We'd need a setup similar to the Satellites.

PS, let's not get too distracted with this at the moment, let's focus on getting the latest build ready for public release.
