View Full Version : [0.6B] Amusing OOS huge-ship recursive docking bug

I accidentally ordered my Asgard to dock with itself while I was OOS. I watched with horror as it disappeared from the radar screen and the universe imploded (the game hung). I presume it succeeded in docking with itself, then Egosoft's engine got stuck in an infinite loop looking for my Asgard.
I know, there's nothing you can do to fix it, but to everyone with an M0: be careful what you tell it to dock with!

It's a very good point BobSmalls. Another member mentioned the problem before, and it's definitely something that we can't do anything about, but that needs watching.
The only thing I can think of to prevent this from happening is to get rid of the Asgards huge ship docking capabilities and swap it for internal M6/TS docking.

Perhaps, but that prohibits having any other ship with big docking

Well , we should just post a warning and solve the problem... it's not our fault and the external M2/M1 docking really makes for this.

This only tangentially related, but do you guys remember how trying to undock an M3 from, say, a TL that was docked at a station would crash X3 in the earlier patches? Eventally Ego, patched it so that ships docked in a docked ship could not run any of the navigation commands.
Unfortunately, it looks like scripts can still force such ships to attempt undocking and thus crash X3. I use the Terracorp Fleet package and it took me a while to figure out that my double-docked Xtended ships were what was causing the crashes.
Ultimately, this probably needs to be an Ego fix, but is there anyway we can work around this other than telling people not to do it inthe meanwhile?

That's right aka1nas. There is no other solution at the moment. It's unlikely ES will fix it soon, but that depends on how docking works in 2.0.

how about scripting a check so that it cannot dock with itself?
or barring it from itself showing on the sector map when choosing what it can dock at?
either should work for any ship.
