Ok so i had TC updated to the version it needed to be without the bonus pack and installed the mod. It didn't give me new starts or the tag by the new game option like it said it would. when i tried one of the starts it put me in the new universe (i think, i didn't recognize xenon sector 103 from vanilla.) the game seemed to run fine until it froze about 30 seconds.

I tried completely reinstalling and re-patching TC and then re-downloading XTC from a different source but got the same result. Any ideas?

What o/s are you using?

There have been reports of problems with Windows 7 and Vista, where previous installations have effectively been cached, so that a "new" install still has some leftovers from the previous version, which does nasty things to XTC.

Might also help if you post your log file - as the welcome to this forum stated:
"When posting a bug, please always attach the file "log72120.txt" which you can find in the Egosoft folder in "My Documents" (for example: "C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Egosoft\" ). Please also provide as much information as possible about your installation and the situation in which the bug occurred. (Patch version, installed scripts and mods, etc.)"

The easiest way is to install X3:TC to another place as "C:\Program Files". I would recommend C:\Games".

If you got Windows 7 or Windows Vista then you can try the following steps:

Disclaimer: I give absolutely no warranty for the description below. You should only follow these instructions if you know what you are doing. If you are unsure, don't touch it.

I guess there are some old files in the virtualstore.
That wonderful place is a hidden directory with the following path:
"C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore"

If you have installed X3:TC to "C:\Program Files (x86)\EGOSOFT\X3 Terran Conflict" then you have to go to

"C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\EGOSOFT\"

There delete the directory "X3 Terran Conflict".

Are you installing it within an administrator account? Or at least running the installer with admin privileges? (And after that running the game in the same way)?

Failing to do so has been reported to cause malfunctioning and errors.

(Just another possible cause)
