View Full Version : XTM + Scripts: Install Order?

I was wondering if the order in which you install X3: Reunion and XTM 0.7.5 was important in any way, as it relates to other scripts or mods.

Previously, I had installed X3 and XTM together, along with various scripts by Cycrow and LV, using Cycrow's plugin manager. This install worked 99% properly, but now when I do the same installation, I get a galaxy-load of 'ReadText' entries in lists.

I believe I had installed the plugins originally for use with X3: R by itself, and added XTM later. Now I have added XTM before installing the plugins. Could this have caused the ReadText problems?

Yes it probably has. When XTM is installed it changes the game in many ways, this means that if you are running scripts to add to an XTM game then you need to make sure they are the XTM version of the scripts. Most scripts do not need a XTM specific version, but some do. You will need to check with the scripts author if their script is compatible though; or list your scripts here so we can give you hints. ;)

The correct order for installation is X3R patched to latest version, bonus pack if you want to use it, XTM, other scripts.

Hmmm... Strange. Like I said it worked just fine when I installed it before: X3:R > Scripts > XTM.

I do notice that Cycrow's Plugin Manager is now completely different than with my last installation - could that possibly do anything?

How about if I installed the scripts [BEFORE] activating the Script Editor in-game? Would that cause the scripts to mess up, on account of trying to run, failing, then succeeding?

...Hmmm... Well anyway, I suppose I should do a clean un/re-install and see if/what that fixes.

Okay... Here's what I got.

Uninstalled everything from previous installation - X3:R, XTM, Plugin Manager. X3 folder was manually deleted after uninstall.

Installed: X3 - Reunion 2.5 (Patches not needed)
Installed: Bonus Package 3.1.07 (from the Egosoft website)

Downloading: XTM_0.7.5_Full.exe (from this forum) ..............done, installed.

Downloading: Cycrow's Plugin Manager, from this thread: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=265915
...............done, installed.

Downloading scripts: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=110772
............................done.

...Um... Grrr. UN-downloaded the above scripts, because they appear to be for TC.
Added {EMP}... done.
Added LV's cheats from this package: http://code.google.com/p/x3tcscripts/downloads/detail?name=allasone.zip&can=2&q=label%3DLV++label%3AFull
(Made sure this file was indeed for X3:R and not TC, as named)

...Attempting to run X3:R/XTM... Program runs OK.

ERRORS IN BBS MESSAGES: XTM messages are OK, LV's Cheats messages are OK (they previously were not). Six ReadText entries appeared after these.

Only one other mod was installed: Race Response Fleets 1.8b, by Lord Vader (from the LV package). It says it's a beta, so where is the current stable version?

I get a galaxy-load of 'ReadText' entries in lists.

I believe Aragon is right. From my memory all those readtext you see in the Ship equipments and wares that you can buy?
If that is what you are talking about that would be the CLS CAG commands and equipment that comes with the Bonus Pack.

One time I forgot to install the bonus pack, and the XTM install showed scripts to display "readtext####" in the pull downs. With those scripts and add ons missing it could not display the "NAMES" it was refferring to. that effected my lists for "commands" and "wares".

After you install it you could list like a command or wares list like "start trade sector, Readtext###-###, Buy wares for price, Etc..." that might let a person know the order and can tell you what should be listed and what you are missing and how to correct it.

Yeah, that's how I know that the LV's Cheats script now works - because the commands 'Create Money, Clone ship, etc' in the General Orders menu were all ReadText before.

Apparently now I have to contend with fixing the ones in RRF.

...EDIT. Found the correct version, Race Response Fleets Final (by LV). Trying again to see if the errors are still there...
....Oh yeah, awesome... The game now locks up entirely when trying that one. LOLZ. Disabled that.

Cool, I never used the RRF or Cheat ones much like Need Money. But I am sure there are some (err...Many users) here that know all about them and may have posted replies to some scripts if they cause errors. If you add new ones you never used before, just do a simple search on google with "TXU" and I am sure you will now if others have any pros and cons with useing them or certin ones.

If you have room on your hard drive, do only XR up to the bonus pack, then install XTM. install it to say folder C:\TXU\xtm if you start the game everything should be ok.
THEN....
copy the folder "xtm" and paste it in the TXU folder you would have a copy, rename it as "xtmwithscripts" load one script package at a time. test each one, if it screws up delete it and copy the known good folder xtm and paste a copy and rename it again.

It might take some time but it is quicker then reinstalling everything up to a known good point.

Note, not every script add on may be 100% compatible, so each one you are wanting to include may not work, but there are highly use scripts they are known to work by many. Also note the more you add the larger load the engine will be under from what I heard. I was always told pick and choose which ones you really want to use to keep performance up.

Take a few minutes and read this thread over, some good tips

...I just thought of something... I recall hearing that you need to use 'special care' when adding/removing Artificial Life (AL) scripts... You had to disable them in-game (from the AL Plugin Config menu) and save, THEN uninstall them. Could that be doing it? Because RRF is an AL Plugin...

Say for example, you add MOD-1, MOD-2, and MOD-3, which are all [AL] plugins... The game has a list of installed plugins to refer to, which says 'Mod-1, Mod-2, Mod-3'
Now, if you remove MOD-2 for example, the new plugins list would be: MOD-1, MOD-3. But, removing the mod itself doesn't exclude it from this reference list, so the game thinks: 'MOD-1, ....WTF Where is Mod-2 and why is Mod-3 not #3 in the list anymore?!' ...and thus, ReadText errors.

Am I getting the basic idea correct?

I figured one of the guru's might have jumped in who do the add ons you are talking about. One thing you might want to look up in a google search with in TXU is rename CAT files. there is a post about some scripts or Mod might need to be renumbered so they don't over wirte a cat file. Let me see if I can provide a link to read up on it.

Hope that helps out.

Check the 'Scripts' directory of your installation. If there are any files in there with a name '<nnnnn>.xml' or '<nnnnnn>.xml (where the prefix 'nnnnn' or 'nnnnnn' is a sequence of 5 or 6 numbers) then move those files into the 't' directory.

I have found that some script installations do not place the files in their correct subdirectory, and this leads to at least some of the 'readtext' errors.

Don't install EMP, it overwrites part of the mod. We have already merged it into XTM so there isn't a conflict and so that mods that need EMP will still work. This could be causing the readtext issues.

Hi!
I have downloaded the X-tended mod 0.7.5
The game shows me that I only have 0.7.4 and I get a message that the game isn't properly installed - I'm missing the shipyard setup script?
Can anyone help?
Thanx!

Not 100%, but take a look here. This might be your http://www.thexuniverse.com/threads/12886-The-X-Tended-Mod-0-7-5 0.7.4 to 0.7.5 fix.;)

Not sure about the SY script, but the version number is correct. I forgot to update the version number for 0.75.

Stupid question, but I assume you DL'ed the full version of 0.7.5 and not just the patch file? Make sure you are installing the mod to Reunion's main folder and not the 'mods' sub folder. It should be installed to the same folder that has X3.exe in it.

Hi!
I think I know where the problem lies.
One of the scripts I used had a new 09 DAT file which over wrote the XTM 09 file.
I think I'm going to start again and see what happens.
