A Terran Adventure (Part 30) - Learning Curve

As I enter the briefing room on-board Spirit Buckler (a Split Cobra M7M) there is a quiet buzz of anticipation among the troops (all were hand picked for their natural ability in combat and although most were Argon there were a few split on the team as well)... It is their first mission after completing training.

After the briefing, I note the confident looks on their faces... those Pirates are likely to be no match for these troops, but that is if they survive long enough to get on board. I have heard horror stories of boarding pods being shot down by stray fire thus it will come down to how good my boarding operation command skills are.

As I enter the bridge, I instruct the crew to prepare for departure and jump to Vestibule of Creation.

Upon entering the pirate sector, I check the location of the Brigantine as I launch a barrage of Hammers at the ship and note the first problem lack of visibility due to the nebula and some big asteroids. My first task will have to be to get the Brigantine to chase me out of the asteroid field, which could be a problem because their navigator seems a little green.

After doing a few callibration barrages with Hammerheads then switching to Flails I make an error in the calculation resulting in nearly half the hull being wiped out!! Oops... With flails still equiped I wait for the shields to become active again and start firing the odd flail swarm and callibrating the rate of firing required...

Satisfied with my ability to keep the shields low I launch my marines in between two pairs of flail swarms and continue to pepper the Brigantine with flails while the marines reach and board the target. With all 20 marines safely inside, I stand off and wait for them to capture the ship...

5 decks and a few moments later with 100% survival the Brigantine is mine! With no shields, minimal short range weapons, and about 56% hull the Brigantine is not going to be going into any battles soon. So I decide to call in Spirit Sanctuary to pick up my prize and take her home.
