XTC Version 1.0 - Day 1

Rate this Entry
With the release of Xtended Terran Conflict at 07:30 GMT yesterday morning (20th December 2010), the XTC mod hit the wide world properly. With a few weeks of anticipation building up, including the release of the manual, and the magnificient trailer that Mishra put together, the buzz around TXU was noticeable... followed by the lull as hundreds of players began experiencing the X Universe... Xtended style.

The mod was released initially as a torrent download with the aim to prevent the massive shutdown of the servers that we experienced at the 0.7 release of XTM for X Reunion, and indeed performed admirably.

After more than 24 hours in release state, we've been able to achieve some idea of the state of play of the mod. The following detail the traffic surge on the downloads subdomains of both www.thexuniverse.com and www.thexuniverse.us.

TXU.com Downloads per hour
TXU.us Downloads per hour

You'll notice the massive upturn in downloads, with the US server reaching about 30MBs a second at points, and the UK server reaching almost 50MBs a second. In fact the real totals are more in the total amount of downloaded content that happened during the day: 151,410.83 MBs in 24 hours for the UK server, and 81,989.23. In other words, over 230 GBs of downloads across just two of the three servers we were using. That's at least 324 complete downloads. While waiting details on the other server, and being unable to indentify how much bandwidth was provided by the users leaving their torrents seeding, we probably will never know the real figures of that day.

Several times the torrents showed a total of over 500 connected at any one point. The total downloads of the torrent at TXU was over 800 by this afternoon, so no doubt many more players are benefitting from the mod right now.

We want to take the time to thank the various different people who have helped get the release off to a good start, including Siath who provided access to his server, and Seizwell.de and Egosoft for allowing us to release details of the mod launch there.

Look out for more information on XTC and it's impact over the coming weeks. As of today we have released access to direct downloads of the main installer for XTC. Check the downloads section of the website for the latest locations to download it from if you still need to download the mod.
