A Terran Adventure (Part 2) - Expanding Horizons

It has been a little while since I spoke to Mahi Ma, but after checking on his progress I noticed that the Crystals being provided by my missile complex and any that are bought from passing traders at maximum price are not coming in at a fast enough rate. So now I decided to do a little prospecting.

Looking around my current data I notice that there is a quiet unclaimed sector in a reasonably central location. Checking the reports from my scouts, I notice that there is quite a bit of silicon and ore in that sector. The combination of those three factors make it quite appealing to set up my second base of operations.

Checking my bank balance, I notice that I have enough cash to set up a very productive Crystal Complex there. The location also makes it ideal for converting to other uses after I have buried Mahi Ma under his Crystals.

Noting that 8 of my capital ship fleet has been rather idle (and I don't like to take chances) I instruct their captains to take up defensive positions around the only two gates to the sector (One leading to New Income and the other leading to Montalaar). Then I setup an equipment dock near each of the gates so that I also have a nice quiet place to lay over between missions (a home away from home).

Next I setup the 10 Fab Crystal Plex and gingerly talk to Mahi Ma about re-aligning the gates. The boron went into great technical detail about what was involved but after about a 3 hour lecture on wormhole theory he finally got round to telling me what I needed to know.

During the fixing of the first set of gates he created an up-link to my datapad that allowed me to select a gate from my digital StellaNav software and a set of gates to connect to them. The re-allignment process takes 5 minutes and the gates' alignment circuitry requires 2 hours to cool down before re-aligning them again.

He also warned me of a potential safety flaw in the re-alignment circuitry that could result in the gates becoming disconnected permenantly if I attempt to re-align to a gate that is already connected to the same gate of the Hub. Noting this, and that he is working on improving the safety mechanism, I procede to reconnect the Hub to the West gate of New Income.

After 5 rather nervous minutes the gates are re-aligned and Spirit Nexus is open for business again and my traders start collecting the Crystals from my latest complex.

After much deliberation, I decide to take a day off, so I hop into one of my latest acquisitions (a Teladi Kestrel), don my sun glasses, and fly over to the Solar Power plant of my new Crystal complex where I park up and do some sun bathing.

A few hours later, I report back to my eastern equipment dock and pick up the latest status report. I note that my combat rating has been reduced by 2 ranks from Legend to Conqueror, but due to the good performance of my employees my trading rank had not suffered any negative effects. I pop over to Spirit Nexus and check up on Mahi Ma.

Upon my arrival, the rather excentric Boron gives me a big 8 tentacle hug and expounds on how well the Crystal complex I built is doing. Looking at the report he presented me I noted that we are 110k crystals into the 750k requirement... not a bad result I think to myself, but before I take another day off I better work on building my combat rank back up.
