Shortcut to the Big Prize

Well after nearly 5,000 trades the Teladi have grudgingly allowed me access their core sectors. By now I have a Baldrick SF and a Hayabusa fully repaired and kitted out just waiting for this moment and my Elite is now doing remote salvage operations while I cruise in my lovely Nemmy. As soon as I find it, I jump them over to the Space Equipment Dock in Atropos IV and get Trade Mk3 installed. I decide to start one off sector trading in New Horizons and the other in Sirius II while I contemplate repeating the exercise with the Paranid... I wake up from my depressed reverie to find myself speeding towards the nearest Pirate base to stock up on Spacefuel.

No. No and no in fact. No Iím not starting boozing again and no Iím not repeating all that tedious microtrading. Time to take a little shortcut and make a charitable donation as penance. At the trading station in Holy Pathway I somehow manage to cause a public access terminal to get somewhere that it isnít supposed to and execute a little script that just happened to get input as I was randomly hitting keys trying to get back to the home page. ďDidnít know what I was doing Officer, Iím useless with computers, blah blah.Ē Anyway, it seems that now my reputation with the Paranid has improved a bit. Not much, I mean we still donít exactly see eye to eye... to eye, but just enough. Now I need to find one of those pesky tin-rattlers that were in every station in the old universe and give a nice donation to the widows and orphans fund.

Hmm, actually come to think of it I havenít noticed any chuggers in any of the stations Iíve visited. Still, I have a conscience to salve. I buy some lottery tickets Ė it all goes to good causes and I know there isnít a hope in hell of winning.

So now to head into Paranid space and try and find out more about this Xenon mission thatís being hinted at on the Galactic News. By the time I reach Heliopsaris Delta the news is firming up, and after some more cruising around (and doing a bit of salvage work) itís looking like itís all going to start from Primeval Seas. I point the Nemmy in that direction.

When I get there itís all very quiet. No armadas of race ships poised to unleash destruction on the terraformers. Looks like I may have missed the party. I pop through to Sector 1716 to see if thereís any loot. And pop back smartish. There are Xenon everywhere, and big ones too Ė some Js and a K with their attendant PX and P escorts and swarms of Ms. And they donít look happy. I canít take this lot on with my single M6 and I donít have the sensor range to get a proper look at whatís going on Ė thereís a whole bunch of ships guarding the gate.

So I whistle up a scout to come and meet me in Primeval Seas. Itís a Pirate Octopus Raider, itís insanely fast compared to the Nemmy and it has a Triplex scanner. I beam over, hop through the gate and slam the throttle open. Iím past the gate guards before they can process their fire commands, and now I can take a peek at the sector map.

It must be my birthday or something.

Thereís two M1s abandoned near the middle of the sector, a Colossus and a Condor. Straight away I decide to sell the Condor and keep the Colossus and I havenít even got them yet, nor am I likely to right now as thereís Xenon cap ships in the immediate vicinity. I decide to try and lead them away to the South to give me a shot at the prizes, but thereís now M5s closing fast and my route to the West gate is blocked. So itís South at full speed until I come to another gate. Straight through, and within seconds I have to pull up sharp to avoid slamming into a wall of metal that seems to go on forever.

Itís a K.

An abandoned K. And itís a ridiculously easy claim, or would be if I had the e-cells to jump it out. Before my pursuers come through and crash into it I head back through the gate and straight past them, circling around the back of the West gate before making a dash through. Transferring back over the Nemmy I jump straight to 1718 and claim my prize, beam over some e-cells and jump it out to Primeval Seasí North gate and then order it onwards out of the way of any pursuit until I can afford to repair it. Following swiftly behind I decide to head to the nearest Pirate station. Well, thatís got to be worth a drink, hasn't it?

Checking the Gal News en route, I discover that I and a number of others have won the lottery.

Heh, won the lottery, have you? So did I while, but it was not much
As for bails, I am little more unlucky, although a Polaca surrended to me recently in a sector patrol.
Well, I guess having a Taipan and combat rank Conqueror and being a Split might have had an influence on the captain surrendering herself to me hehe

It wasn't actually a major win, but after everything else that had happened it just seemed to be the icing on the cake!
