Retro X gaming is hard after a long time playing X3

Rate this Entry
As I was getting bored grinding Paranid rep on XTC, tryin to buy my first Shipyard, I decided to re-try to play Some of the older X games that I had a brief time playing back when I bought X-Superbox from Game. It took me ages getting adjusted to the older control method And I didn't start the stories of XBTF or XTension

X-Beyond The Frontier
This is the first one I tried... I had no clue how the hell I made that first E-cell trade I remember doing. I couldn't comprehend not having a Sector Map to help me decide there to go... I just flailed around aimlessly for a while till I found the Solar Power Plant, so I went over to make another trade. Had to figure out that I needed to get within 5km to communicate after giving up on auto-pillock docking, so I got the right to dock... I was doing fine up until I was almost in where I tried to strafe to the left, that didn't go well

I imagine that was one of Kyle Brennan's shortest visits to the commonwealth... This is as far as I got before trying out the next in the series

X-Tension
Now I load up my XTension save, and I believe all I did here was dock. I discover that I have the sector map I have a look round for some local deals and see that all but the Trading Station are Unknown Objects. I spend a minute figuring out that I can't target them... So I go to fly up to them to discover what they are. First thing I find is the 1MW Shield Factory, then a Solar Power Plant where I attempt to dock again, same result as before.

Reload and then I decided that I'm best of messing with the controls to see where I'm going wrong... Then I realise that I'm accelerating into the stations instead of strafing into position Strafe Drive was an extension in X2! Damn did I feel stupid!!! I have a nosy at what this Buster has installed, I quickly discover the lack of sector map in XBTF - No Tactical Navigation. I remember getting told that it wasn't installed when I tried to bring up the map! (Atleast I can read this in future if I don't remember ) So I go and start to scout the stations in the sector till I can see a decent trade run to go and do, I find 2 SPP, a Cattle Ranch, a Cahoona Bakery next to it, The 1MW Shield factory, A Shipyard and Equipment dock and a Wharf... I make a few runs between A SPP, the Cattle Ranch and Cahoona Bakery. I decide to see if I can afford a second shield, I get offered a Meatsteak delivery mission. So I accept and off I go to the Cahoona Bakery and complete the mission

I start to get a litle bored of trading so I decide to try my hand at combat I look around the sector map and pick off a lone Disco and begin shooting at it, he gets andry and turns red and begins to retaliate. It doesn't take this one M5 to wipe the sector with me So i decide not to do THAT again!

As I'm flying about trading, I'm seeing the inside of the stations and it's making me want to play X2, I've been trying to ignore this urge as I'm getting somewhere...-ish. But the urge is getting too strong so I give in and play the one that got me into the X series.

X2 The Threat
This one I shouldn't struggle with seeing as I almost completed the story line of this! Or so I thought :\ I quickly realise that I'm still trying to use the X3 control system as I've gotten so used to it... Though off I go to be TerraCorp's b***h for a while. I go along the story for a while and I'm doing well (except for that time I tried to take down a pirate ship... I forgot it has main weapons). I get upto the deliver Mi Tong back to Terracorp and decide to take cover by the Titan when the Pirate swarm attacks, It seems to be working (I have one of the shields of my Disco onboard) but as that Dragon (If I remember it right) saves me I get killed by a Missile?!? That's annoying, I have to go through the whole Saya convo, Tethys cutscene and fly my way back to the carnage...

I decided to call it a day as it was really late when I was playing last night XD I woke up and decided to write my first TXU blog, and here it is! I hope those of you that did read this didn't get too bored
