I really like this ship's design - and it does look like an excellent start Apollo.

Wow, apollo! How long does it take you to do that? Must be tedious work, but looking good.

I wonder why the BSG developers made the curvy things so non-symmeptrical.

It's a few hours work so far. I know, maybe more interesting if it's not symmetrical.

This looks very interesting ... from one side it almost looks like an old cylon head, then it looks somewhat like a spider / centepide crossbreed

Well I like it, good work :)

Now that was fast Apollo!

Can't wait to do a bit of this!!!

I presume the transparent glassareas and lighting fx will be ok?

I hope so, never really tried any material like that! Still got the underside to do - and I haven't decided on how much detail I'm going to add.

Holy Crap! That is sweet, apollo. ;) However, it must be weird to be making a ship so that we can destroy it...

Do you still need more pics of the resurrection ship, apollo? Since I just got season 3 in, I'm sure there's more, even with better natural lighting. ;)

To be accurate, it will have to be symmetrical since that's the nature of it's design. Fortunately, that works in your favor because so much of it is duplicate segments (which seriously reduces modeling time - always a good thing).

Nice job so far. I don't think it lacks for interest... not in the least. The texture will be interesting though...

From the pics I've been looking at I don't think it's symmetrical. Parts of it definitely are, the main structures on top and bottom are symmetrical; but the more intricate parts at the very front and at the rear aren't symmetrical. (I think)

Yeah, the texture will be interesting indeed.

Yeah ML - if you could try and find a side on pic, or one that shows what is in between the top and bottom 'sections'.

Cheers everyone!

Alright, I'll see what I can find. ;)

umm, what exactly do you mean by between the "top" and "bottom" sections?

Do you mean around here?

@StormSinger... Welcome to the forums - you into BSG?

Thanks.

Could be, looks interesting from what I've seen. Always been a fan of the series anyway, so it follows. I'm sure to give it a try.

I added some detail - think the modeling is finished on it now. The new details will be used to create normal maps - too many polys if I leave them as they are.

That looks cool Apollo. Did you array all that in or clone it all? Are you going to put the bodies in as meshes or map them in with texturing trickery?

apollo
12-05-2008, 11:40 AM
Thanks hawkbs! It was done with a couple of arrays, there are a few different sets of repeating sections. I think texturing will be the way, meshes would use to many polys I think.

Ever thought about some special abilitys for this ship ?
Would be cool if it could "build" ships ...
A "empty Raider body" and the "Soul" or whatever is tranfered to them wil make a new Raider ...

Elffin

Nice idea Jey16 - been thinking about that...

Congrats on the 1000'th post as well!

An amazing model! What program did you use? 3DS? I can't imagine making that with gmax...

apollo
15-05-2008, 11:22 AM
Thanks! Yeah, it was done in 3ds. Gmax has all the tools you need, just takes time!
