We need some translators to edit the XTM 0.7.4 text files to make them available to as many different languages as possible.

The most important two languages will be French and German, but anyone who wishes to translate into any language is welcome to do so.

A basic understanding of how text files work will be needed as you will also have to change the language codes so the text files will work with the correct version of X3.

If you are interested please post below stating which language(s) you would like to help with.

Some tips from Phlt for translation:

This thread is dedicated to share tips and experience regarding how to translate the best \t\ Files.

1 - Text Editors
I noticed in my past experience that every language showing this kind of typing:

ö - è - Ê - ç - ...

are not always properly transposed. This can be due to different Text Editor used, which are not always compatible with .xml settings.

I would strongly recommend to use a true xml file Editor like "Dreamweaver", as it can also detect html mistakes, such <tags> missing for instance.

However, this is a quite expensive software. Please, find herebelow a list of txt editors I found reliable to use:

Notepad - not very user friendly *
Wordpad - a bit more user friendly **
Scite/Scintilla (http://scintilla.sourceforge.net/SciTEDownload.html) - freeware - very powerful and easy to use ***
PsPad (http://www.pspad.com/) - freeware - very useful & powerful - my favorite when I didn't have - Dreamweaver. It also allows you to compare two versions and check differences. ****
Feel free to use some others if you found them good for you, but test the file in game and ensure it works really fine, before submitting it please

2 - Saving Files
It is always better to copy the original file somewhere else, and rename the file DIRECTLY in the Explorer directory, instead of doing "saving as..." I Noticed that sometimes, the .html settings are not saved properly and the file is corrupted.

I'm ready !

With following editors Xint, ultraedit and Nvu
I would strongly recommend Nvu (http://www.nvu-composer.de/), its a freeware Html-Editor.

Edit:the test works.

OK that's the German side sorted out. I have added three of you to the translators pool, DJ you were already a translator so I didn't need to add you.

This is the first time I have done this, so could you all please let me know if you can see the XTM volunteers lounge.

Danny is already working on the Italian version. ;) Chem is already working on the Russian translation, but if Elaine wishes to help him he is more than welcome to do so. :)

We need some French translators, I'm sure Phlt hasn't the time to do it on his own ATM.

And of course if anybody wishes to translate it to any other language, then shout. :)
