I thought I'd bring this to everyone's attention :)
it's a mod called BSG - Diaspora and it's made my some of the guys that worked on BTRL.
Here is a quote from Lt. Cannonfodder.
"bad news regarding BtRL: about four months ago, 90% of the team left the project, myself included. The reasons for why we prefer to keep internal, but suffice to say it was due to creative and management disputes.
As stupid as it may sound, those of us who left started our own project: Diaspora. This new project is very similar to BtRL in premise: To create an arcade space simulator set in BSG universe using the FS_Open engine"

I have a tenner on it being because Omni is an egomaniac!

Well he is absent from the team list. http://www.diaspora-game.com/team.html
Anyway - I hope they continue to develop and get the mod out. All the best lads
That's too bad, hopefully it doesn't set them back too much, looked like it had lots of promise.

Yeah I agree! Also curious to note the planet it's orbiting is distinctly un-ragnar like.

Hi guys, been a while since I posted on here.
For those with a long memory I was the mission design lead on BtRL and I'm now the new project lead on Diaspora.
I happened to be checking out Sci-fi Meshes and while I was drooling over Ice-Dragon's BSG model (BtRL's one was Omni's and thus it is one of the few major casualties of the split) I remembered why we hadn't grabbed him and figured I'd pop across, see how you guys were doing and pimp our mod a little. :)
As for Ragnar, it's a very early shot (in fact it wasn't supposed to actually be released) and since we don't currently have localised nebulae we can't do that particular mission justice yet. It should be ready eventually though.
Anyway, I'm looking forwards to friendly competition with you guys. :)

Best of luck with the new mod! Has this set you back quite a bit or is it still in playable condition? Hope you've not lost too many assets, there was a lot of nice work on BTRL.

We've lost anything that was shared work of someone on Diaspora and someone who remained on BtRL. That does mean we lost the Galactica itself and quite a few things from the demo.
However we still have a very strong ship set and we've already replaced many of the major losses we couldn't live without (Vipers and Raiders for instance). Certainly enough that all we had to do was pick a storyline for our first release that could use the assets we had while avoiding ones we lacked. We've already reached the point where the mission design team are working and I'm sure as people working on a mod yourselves you'll realise that is a significant achievement.
All in all I think the changes mean that you'll be able to play a smaller release faster. That seems to be what most of the fans wanted anyway. :)

That's good news, would be pretty disheartening if you'd lost too much. I was on the BTRL forums, there doesn't seem to be announcement over there at all?!

Well I'm not about to stir up trouble by posting about Diaspora on the BtRL forums. :)
There are posts about it elsewhere on game-warden though.
