As other people have no problem, I assume my system is missing a program. I have 7-Zip on a Vista [ugh] Windows. When I try to run the self extracting file, it says it cannot extract and not much more information. I tried to redownload but no joy.. The error message is from 7-zip by the way.

*Added prefix to title. ;) AS.*

I assume you are talking of the 0.75 patch file. Just reload and try again, mine works fine.

Edit: Downloaded Full and Patch version again and unzipped both. No problem.
Files are o.K.

Is it a 64-bit version of Vista?

I tried reloading a few times... no joy. If it is self extracting, it shouldn't need a particular version of 7zip should it? I have 32 bit Vista Home Premium. Given Vistas reputation, nothing surprises me anymore when I have problems.

Did you install X3 to the default path? IE into program files?

Redownloaded. Still get 7-Zip error message. It says 7-Zip Diagnostic:
#: 0

Message: Can not open file 'C:\Users\Administrator\Downloads\Games\X3 Reunion\X75\XTM_0.7.5_Full.exe' as archive

If I move file to desktop I get same message but it correctly sites the new location. Same thing is true if I move file to X3's location. Default location for X3 Reunion for my machine is Computer\Local Disk (C)\Program Files\EGOSOFT\X3 REUNION.

VIsta Home Prem. 32 bit version.

Have you tried to extract it to a different location, say C:\Temp ?

Just in case....

C:\Users\Administrator\Downloads\Games\X3 Reunion\X75\XTM_0.7.5_Full.exe' as archive

Do you have access to admin rights on your PC if you try to open the file?

I am the only one on this computer. User is "Administrator" with FULL rights.
And I tried extracting to a different folder but still get same message.

Hiya Peeps,

@ LJBurstyn......
Hiya mate,
Like you I'm using vista home premium (32bit), however unlike you, I haven't had any problems installing X3/XTM, 0.7.4 patch & then 0.7.5 patch...

What I did was download the patch to a different folder, then C&P (copy & paste) it to my XTM folder & installed it that way....

It's strange that you can't install it in vista because I certainly could....

Umm, this may be stupid question, but is your version of vista the full version or an XP upgrade edition? I ask because I hadta bite the bullet & buy the full version as I couldn't (re)install XP on my new hdd...

Cheers & Thranx

nods, I'm using Vista SP1 Home Premium too, but not an upgrade, and I had no problem... :)

Per quote below. Vista Home Premium (32 version) came with the computer when I got it in March 2007. I have all the latest updates from Microsoft (such as SP1).

I still get message saying does not extract. I had REINSTALLED X3 Reunion and then updated it to version 2.5 and installed the other program from Egosoft (3.??). I tried 7.5 full since I had new install and it will not work with extracting error. I gave up and downloaded the patch version and it did extract okay. I copied the files from the extraction folder to X3 Reunion's folder. Hopefully the patch version has everything I need to work because the FULL version will not extract. I got 10.dat and 10.cat and the sound files from a 7a download.

So far this has worked but I have not tried all the XTM quests. I have finished the Levi and Otas Scarab quests--I've got the Sohnen quest located but have not started it yet--as I want to do the Olympos(spelling) and other quests first.

A good option might be to DL 7zip and extract the file manually.

Hmm, just had a thought, are you using IE7?

Same problem here as Blueeyes. The file I downloaded is 177 KB? Does that sound right?

Same situation too (Vista 32 etc) & same result. Tried everything from running in XP mode to run as administrator but no joy.

the 0.75 patch is about 6.6 megs in size

the 0.75 patch is about 6.6 megs in size

Thats the problem then, the file has become corrupted somehow. The file I get is only 177 KB. Looks like it needs to be repackaged.

EDIT When I click Download, the dialog box does indicate 6.61 Meg but the final file is tiny in comparison. Is this file available elsewhere?

I'll ask again as it's important.

Are you using IE7 or FF3?

Some members have reported having trouble with corrupt DL's with IE7 while FF3 is no trouble at all.

I'm using I.E 7 with no 3rd party DL utilities. I don't know what the original poster is using.

EDIT: btw. same problem with the full version. Is installing FF the only way forward, or is there an alternate site to download from.

Hiya Peeps,

Ok guys & gals,
Just been reading this again & it seems some peeps are having difficulties downloading the patch.....

I suggest you get hold of this FREE program called Fresh Download available from -->> Here <<-- (http://www.freshdevices.com/), you will need to register for a FREE registration code to use the program...

I can highly recommend this program as I use it all the time, just to give you a brief run down of what this program does is it breaks the item your downloading into 8 chunks which it downloads at the same time instead of in one enormous chunk.. As an example of what I mean, take NH mod for instance, the main program is about 3-400MB in size & on some computer may take a few hr's to download in one big chunk, what Fresh Download does is break that one massive file in 8 separate chunks which it downloads at the same time thus potentially saving hr's waiting on the mod to completely download in one chunk....

As I said, this was just a suggestion, it's entirely up to you, the individual, what you do....

HTH,

Cheers & Thranx

then get any free download manager it gives NICE speed and no corrupt files.
google for free download manager.
hope that helps

EDIT: DAMN NC was more speedy than me. :(

**EDIT** Elaine, I happened to be reading this thread at the time, that's why I was slightly quicker.... :p Plus the fact as I mentioned in my post, I happen to use that particular program all the time.... You'll beat me to it next time mate, I can almost guarantee it... ;) I'm studying at the moment so I'm not always checking the forum... :) Cheers, NC ;) **END EDIT**

I've already discussed this via PM with Aragon Speed and he says apparently no one knows yet what to do. I have WinXP 64bit and the archive will not extract on my machine either.

if you want a really good web browser with an excellent built in download manager, that's all free, try Opera... I use it by preferance :)
