Want to help but can't find an area of specific interest?
Unsure you're capable enough to lend a hand?

Feel free to ask your questions in this topic!

Please keep in mind the following:

-We are looking for as professional help as can be expected.
-The purpose of signing up on the team is YOU helping US, >NOT< the other way around. It should therefore be noted at any time one can only expect a very limited amount of support on getting up to speed with knowledge needed
to make a significant contribution, the team is simply to busy to go beyond sketching general outlines.

The only thing i think i would be of use of is become a beta tester perhaps.

We'll keep you in mind for the next round of beta testing. Beta testing is hard work, and requires dedication. It's not only an excuse to see the next patch first.

Hey,

Just wondering what the story was with the jobs. I applied for a manual and/or story writer position about 2 weeks ago and got no response. I understand there's probably not too much in these areas to do at the moment, but I said I'd just remind you that I'm available if anyone needs any help there :)

Best of luck,
P

I am a very capable copy editor, and I would be happy to extend my services to the XTM team if they're desired.

In other words, you can send me a bunch of files containing game text (sector descriptions, BBS bulletins, et cetera), and I will check them to ensure that the copy is grammatically correct and that the narrative flows smoothly (if applicable). When you get the files back, they'll be pristine. I won't need much support from other team members, unless a specific program is necessary to open certain file types or special formatting guidelines must be followed, in which case I'll need to be briefed.

I probably won't be able to do any fact-checking, because I don't know enough about XTM's plot line, and it's been a while since I've played through the vanilla game.

Hello XTM team! Let me be honest: I have only played 5hrs time with your mod. I'm beginning to think its more of an expansion. I am very impressed with your work and I would love to contribute in even the smallest fashion. Truly, I feel that if there were any project I could help with, it would be this one. For Brevity, here are the things I can do and the things I want to help with:

Skills: 3d modeling, low poly, hi poly; concept art (traditional media to photoshop). UVW mapping: many different methods; see preferred software. Writing: for missions, history/background and subplots. Game engines experiece: UnrealEd 1.x to 2.x, TES Editor Morrowind. So, yes a bit of level editing but I prefer the Idea of world creation :)

Preferred software in order of mastery: Maxon cinema 4d xl (v7-10.5), Photoshop, Illustrator, Maxon Bodypaint 2.0-35, 3dsMax 8, and Biped.

Why am I interested; why am I so enamored by the x3 universe? A few reasons:

1. I am a sci-fi / space / ufo / alien / world creation fanatic.
2. I am Influenced by: XTM (obviously:), Dr. Who, Frank Herbert (Dune), Star Trek, Star Wars, Aldus Huxley, Alfred Bester (The Stars my Destination), Phillip K. Dick, The Matrix, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, The Black Hole, Arthur C. Clark...I'll have to stop now 'cause I'll keep going forever otherwise :)
3. I'm a great artist (IMO :)), with a lot of different talents and abilities who wants to learn from and help like-minded folks while working toward a common goal.
4. Very computer proficient in hardware, software, and networking. (A+, NET+).

Not proficient, or knowledgeable with the x3 modding software or scripting tools...But I learn fast. I would prefer to help with art assets or any writing concept tasks but I am willing to take on anything and learn something new. Reply for any sample work you need. Also, this would be the first time I have applied for any position on a mod dev team. If interested, please reply and tell me what kind of work I may present for your review. Thanks looking :)

well it just might be a message from the matrix, its just one reality or another... we just hope evil AI didn't make the data our senses are collecting now...:) My brother, a DR. of quantum optics and engineering says the math would be so similar that A Neo who mastered "fake" reality should do close to if not the same in a "real" one 8-o. "Its ALL math" he says...

And thanks for the welcome! I am indeed enthusiastic as are you apparently, judging by your quick and friendly response! (thanks, I feel quite welcome :) I definitely hope to hear from you all soon!

Hello, sent an application to Mox awhile back, apparently the information for job signups I was using was obselete (d'oh) when I sent that, so, applying here as advised by Anon Loyalist...

I have no real capabilities in graphics editing, due to, among other things, a complete lack of quality software; however, I would be glad to contribute as a writer for the BBS missions and any other text needed; I'm also going to leap headfirst into the Mission Director tomorrow and see if I can figure it out, as I've got a lot of mission scripts and ideas in my head that I could see working with XTM. I've been using XTM since either late 0.5 or early 0.6, and I've been off-and-on on TXU since near it's creation (was very active at the start, and then real life stepped in). In any case, I now have roughly eight months ahead of me with absolutely nothing to do, and if you need another beta tester, writer, mission scripter (if the MD tackling goes well), etc, I'd love to help.

As far as cut-and-dry skills go; I would say that my two key abilities are analysis and writing. By analysis, I mean the problem-solving sort, not any kind of statistic-mathematical skill; I take a situation and without even consciously thinking about it, I start to get potential solutions and avenues of attack (no exaggeration here; it's a serious flaw in social events because I take everything too seriously, read too deeply into jokes, and respond too quickly to sound sincere :(). Applied to XTM, this could come out as making inconsistencies sound consistent, such as why the HEPT cannons recoil, or how a certain ship's layout works.

Posting from a friend's laptop. My computer is acting up; the motherboard power LED is lighting up green, but the computer refuses to power up when I hit the power switch. I'm hoping it's just a case of a faulty switch, the thing was working an hour ago when my brother was using it. I tried swapping the Reset Switch with the Power Switch, but that didn't work. I've got another friend who works at the local computer shop, going to bring the tower in this week to see if they can figure it out. Hopefully it's just a screwy connection somewhere... if not, I'm going to be effectively cut off from PC-related activities for at least two weeks, a month tops, depending on how well part-shopping goes.

I'm good with computers in some areas, but the motherboard isn't one of them. Is there a backup switch on the board itself that I could attempt to power it on with? Should be able to check back in a day or so via laptop.

Droffy
19-01-2008, 07:42 AM
No there are not normally any back up power up switches, but you might want to reset your bios for a start. you can do that using a jumper pin setting. on the mother board. That would be my first bet M8

Hiya Peeps,

This Post Is Going To Be A Bit Off Topic, Apologies..... :o

@ Spatch...
Hiya Mate,
I Suggest Checking The Power Connect To Your Hard Drive......
I Had A Similar Problem With My Old PC Which Turned Out To Be A Faulty Wiring Connection........

I Could Prod The Wiring & It Would Shut Down My Hard Drive, Even In The Middle Of It Booting Up.... Prod It Again & The Hard Drive Would Start Up Again.....

So As I Suggested, Have A Look At The Connection On The Back Of Your Hard Drive, All It May Need Is A Slight Push Back In & It May Work Properly Again.........

HTH,

Cheers & Thranx

Hey there!

So im new to modelling, and that (along with ship / station design) is where my intrests lie. One set back - I can't seem to use the software to save my life. Ive searched far and wide for tutorials that explain how to do certain things, but to no avail (maybe im just a bad researcher) - and what i would really like to know, is if there is anyone out there who could talk me through some programs and spend a little time teaching me the basics. I learn best by watching and listening to others, and i understand this can be a tall order. Just really eager to get into it and start churning out some help for some mods here!

Currently i have blender and gmax. Im looking to possibly invest in 3ds max if I can get the student pricing (i am a student = broke by definition).

Thanks for your time, and looking foward to working with you!
Cheers,
Myrmedon

Got it sorted out. Sent my tower to a friend who has motherboard and powersupply diagnostic tools. My PSU was only putting out power on the... 5V? Whichever rail powers the motherboard; the rest were dead. He gave me a new 600w CoolerMaster (for only $100!), and I've been letting it run for about two weeks to make sure it wasn't my backup power unit that was causing the damage- it's been switching to backup mode when the houses' power seemed fine (also, I picked up Sins of a Solar Empire and was kinda busy with that). So, back, settled, and digging into the mission director at long last.

Thanks for your offer of help M8.

I don't wish to offend you, so I hope you don't take this the wrong way.

XTM is a large and complex Mod, and we need people we know are going to stay around and not disappear in a couple of weeks. This is not to say that we consider you that type of person, but you are a brand new member and only have 15 posts to your name, so from our point of view you can see we have to be careful.

Rest assured though that your interest in joining the team has been noted. So we may contact you in the future.

Just for our reference, exactly what do you mean by 'Digital Arts'? Do you mean you can create things from scratch in photoshop, or can model in 3D MAX? A little more detail of what you can do in that area will help us make decisions.

Welcome to the forums M8, I hope you enjoy it here and stay. :)

I should probably also mention I have a knack for video editing and sound mixing. In regard to your question: more like photo editing, web graphics, etc (I use Photoshop CS3). I have tried modeling programs before but I havn't yet learnt how to use them. In any case, that experience probably won't be helpful to the modification process itself - but other mediums perhaps.
