The player's galaxy map should show the 12 colonies and Ragnar, Prolmar and Kimtar system. These systems should be very large..
The rest of Galaxy should be unknown.
Some of the Battlestars that were named during BSG could patrol these Colonial systems. These include..
Galactica, Athena, Atlantia, Mercury, Pegasus, Triton, Soloria, Prometheus, Cereberus.
Other Battlestars in 'TOS' included the Acropolis, Pacifica, Columbia and Rycon.
Plot start...
Player should not start as Commander of the Galactica but as a Viper/Raptor/TP pilot.
in order to gain Rank recognition - ranks displayed here....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonial_Forces_%28Battlestar_Galactica%29
Rank increases from direct orders or BBS (for faster promotion)
typical missions:
i) Transfer civilians / Vip (Fly Colonial One for President Adar / Roslin
ii) General Cylon kills.
iii) Protect Shuttle flights within Colonies and to Colonial outposts.
iv) Explore sectors type missions which require search for lost
ship/sectors - Kobol?
v) Protect mining operations in asteroid fields / convoys.
vi) Offensive operations against Cylons.
vii) Defend the Colonies - Cylon invasion missions.
viii) Hunt for Scar - since Cylon can be reborn so finding this specific enemy could be an repetative mission. (increasing in difficulty)
viii) Command and coordinate an offensive strike against Cylon resources.
Increased Rank = command of more ships.
Trading could happen between EQ docks and civilian/military stations.
Whether we need credits is debatable since BSG is primarily a war/survival series.
Plot Change - the game really starts!
Once the player achieves rank of Commander (Galactica of course!) this triggers a 'MASSIVE' Cylon Invasion.
Galactica could the set out to search the lost Colony sectors and it could ensure that itself or vipers protect and 'CLAIM' or COMM ships which have been orphaned or stranded (TP, TS, TL and Raptors and Vipers from destroyed Battlestars) in order to create a 'Rag tag fleet'. Wares could also be collected - this should be invaluable. All info for locations of stations is lost due to the invasion.
Main plot choices for players.
i) The search begins for Earth....
ii) Player could always try to reclaim the 12 Colonies.
iii) Invade and conquer Cylon systems.
Possible problems that require creative thinking...
i) Tylium - ore susbtance which needs to be mined.
Tylium needs to be 'treated' in order to become the liquid fuel(energy).
Tylium could also be stored on 'tanker' ships.
ii) How to build more ships - Colonial outposts (planetary systems from the TOS) could contain forgotten shipyards/EQ? if these are destroyed by Cylons its tough luck!!.
iii) Space stations do exist in BSG - Raganar anghorage/ armistice station.
Tylium ore could be exchanged for fighters/ships/ weapon wares.
There are pobably a number of issues stated above that are not possible in the confines of X3. But it does give people the opportunity to debate any plans
anyway, I hope that these thoughts inspire others?
Ill comment on this when I have some more quality time again Edath but short reply; looks very good, some thoughts of my own on this to be filed later on.
Thanks!

Forget about shipyards left around the universe..
The Hephaeastus aka Flattop could be the mobile shipyard.
Resources (Tylium) and metals could be channeled to the ship in order to create/replace lost fighters. This ship needs to be protected or the fleet loses its only way of reproducing ships.
Whether the colonial fleet should be allowed to build shipyards/eq docks/ weapons factories further along in the plot is a possibility? - colonisation of new systems which they will need to protect agains further Cylon attacks.
The prison ship could be used to create ammo... (do the crime pay the time - joke!)
Whether to include any other alien races (apart form Cylon and Colonial) is a wait and see. other alien races will probably be introduced in the Tv prog once the storylines get thinner......

Shipyards could make for nice missionobjectives. Clear sector X of all Cylon and the shipyard is yours. Take all ships for reinforcements, download blueprints for new ships / weapons and strip the station for spare parts, then move on.

I like Mishra's idea - clear a sector of Cylons and take over any stations to re-fit / upgrade / build ships - it could then be on a time limit - do as much as you can in a set time before a large Cylon force jumps in and starts attacking you - time to jump away again! If you have a Pegasus in your fleet it can automatically build fighters as long as you have the resources in the fleet - so any stations can re-fit / upgrade civilian ships with some sort of armaments to make the fleet stronger as you search for earth??

Clearing cylon sectors for temporary ownership of stations for ship/ammo production sounds good.
I suppose the best way to mine for Tylium is for some sort of automated mobile mining/collection.
1 new mission idea - based on the series.
Suicidal missions - using a 'captured Cylon' raider, drop nukes as near as possible to the basetar before being detected. Surviving Cylon ships will follow you intent on revenge! (you have a damaged Ftl drive so no jumping!)
Varying parameters might include time..number of following Cylon ships (depends on rank) or any other ideas that you may think of!

Same idea, this time you get to ambush basestars in an asteroid belt. By chance your scanners pick up a ungarded Cylon mining base. You get 10 minutes to send out raptors and startegicaly deploy nukes (mines with proximitysensor detonation). Then a basestar or 2 or 3 jump in.
*ahum* (based on B5)
TriMagestis
16-11-2006, 08:18 AM
How about you get 10 minutes to take over the base - and you have to stop escaping ships from jumping away to contact a basestar, then you get say an hour to mine as much as you can get before a scout jumps in to see what is happening. If you manage to get the scout before it jumps out again (10 minutes max)- you get 30 minutes more mining time before a Basestar or a few Basestars Jump in and start the assult - then you have to get your fleet out of there!

I'm sure there will a number ideas which can be developed around these. bbs type missions..
A Cylon 'agent' has exploded a bomb on so 'X' freighter/liner. Player is required to gather and transport resource 'X' to the stricken vessel. Gives the player an opportunity to vist ships in the fleet.
Cylon 'agent' releases computer virus and disables ftl drives. Player is given a time limit to search/transport ware before Cylon fleet 'visits' (I'm sure that someone can think of something more dramatic)

In the miniseries (deleted scene) there is an area of space known as 'Trevor Moon' which is a training range. http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Trevor_Moon
This could be employed in one of the beginning missions / lower levels mentioned by Mox:
I'm planning on making this a very tough mod...it's gonna involve flight training, tactics and various levels in all.
It most certainly won't become a 'hop in a Viper MKVII and blast away before you end up on the bridge of the Pegasus 2 hours later'.

And dont forget, once you reach earth you get to travel back in time, all your clothes get bleached white and you have to stop a madman from giving hitler advanced technology....
Not sure how you could pull this one off with the X3 engine though.

Doh... Starbuck as a woman is just sacrileges IMO.
Only joking... though TOS was cool.. at the time. I think TV.com should have some good mission ideas just looking through the plot summaries.
Good plot twist would be if the player turns out to be a Cylon all along and you have to make a difficult choice in the final battle...
I also recall some TOS episodes that weren't half bad. I remember one where they thought they found earth but it was actually another human race, with slightly less advanced technology than BSG. Perhaps that could be a sector or 2 in the BSG map for trade/resupply.
The president needs more drugs to help her trip out and see the future and way to earth, so you have to find some of this rare herb thats obviously gonna be in some dangerous sector.
In order to spawn the gates required to get to earth you, of course, need the scroll of athena (or whatever the frak its called), so you need to head back to Cylon controlled Caprica and recover it.... Rescuing a couple of friends whilst you're at it.
Then there's always head to a Cylon basestar without being detected by patrols in a captured Raider, dock, plant a bomb and get the frak out of there.
Then there could be a vote by the colonists to land on a planet, which is later invaded and you have to bugger off, muster your forces and take back the sector.
And of course, you could be responsible for taking a wing of ships following you containing very sick Cylons that you have to execute when you get within range of a resurection ship.
Sounding familiar so far? Hehe.

Commander Adama started his service during the first cylon war. During which time i'm pretty sure he was a viper pilot.
Given the timeline that the whole fantasy follows missions could go like this.
1) Pass Basic Flight.
2) Pilot a Raptor on some scouting missions, no conflict with swallows and possibly missiles for defence. Bearing in mind that at this time, TOS cylon raiders were used.
3) Pass Viper training. Prove you can pilot a viper and destroy drones and fake fighters with proficiency.
4) Your first station on a Battlestar (given there were only 12 at this time during the first cylon war it could be galactica). Pilot a viper under the command of a Captain and destroy TOS cylon raiders and protect the battlestar from missiles. - This could happen over several missions, and include protecting civilian convoys.
5) Captain - Command your own formation of vipers in the fight against more cylons.
6) The war ends. Train novice pilots in on the training missions you went on by giving them the appropriate commands and leading them into successfully simulations.
7) Major - Pilot a raptor on several scouting missions, civilian rescue operations, and possibly training exercises into unknown sectors (peacefull ones, since cylons are on the other side of the armasitce line and no one can or has crossed it.)
8) Pilot a battlestar in simulations and prove you can accomplish certain tasks.

season 3 [spoiler:d142dd4a92]9) Commander (Season 3 spoiler) (Of the Valkyre)- Operate battlestar on rescue operations, fleet manouver practicing and anything else you could be doing between the two wars.
10) (Season 3 spoiler)
Go on the Valkyre mission on the cylon colonial border. Tell 'bulldog' to cross the line. Watch the map screen as he crosses line, then when the mayday is called shoot bulldog down. FTL away from sector as soon as possible.
11) Possibly season 3 spoiler, so I'm not going to risk it. Begin command of galactica. Go on several more rescue missions and other boring jobs.
12) Begin Cylon invasion. Raiders jump in, launch Nukes at galactica. Vipers launch to defend galactica from nukes hitting. Only vipers currently have ammo.
13) Jump to Ragnar anchorage. Restock with weapons. Civilian fleet arrives. It's descision time.[/spoiler:d142dd4a92]

Hi everybody!
I am a big X3 and BSG fan, so I would like to share some of my thoughts with you.
Missions:
Protect Colonial One
On a way home from Galactica decommission ceremony several raiders attack you. Protect Colonial One. When the last raider goes down, your viper is severe damaged by a blast (special script). Land on colonial one.
Distress call
A lonely raptor joins you. President orders you to rescue as many ships as you can (You follow distress call coordinates from your message log). You rally the ships around Colonial One. (Use technology similar to system override 2)
Ragnar anchorage
Your civilian fleet has been discovered. You receive a message from Cdr Adama that you should join him. You save as much as you can. Ships without jump drive will be destroyed. It will be good idea to have a special script that enables you to order the whole civilian fleet to jump with one command.
Equip and resupply your ships
Equip BSG and your ships with shields, weapons, software… from station reserves.
The escape
Fleet is in Ragnar anchorage (small system filled with clouds, gases and a station). One gate leads out.
Special script: all ships in Ragnar anchorage temporary loose FTL drive capacity until they fly through the gate where Cylon fleet is waiting. Use BSG to cover the retreat.
Beyond the Red line
Skirmish, jump, run, skirmish, jump run,… Cylon fleet is following you until you discover that there is a beacon inside one of your ships. Destroy that ship.
Guerrilla tactics
Several missions to fight for badly needed resources (Hit and run tactics)
BSG Pegasus
Many possible missions.
At some point the player should be given the opportunity to build up his fleet.
It will be a good idea to introduce a special script at this stage: Cylon patrol jumps in randomly. If it is not quickly destroyed or some of the ships escape all the hell breaks loose…
Conclusion
Finding Earth, destroying Cylons,…
Keep the good work!

ooh yeh fantastic idea
it could be a supertuned version so it would be very hard to combat with
and in the middle of a dense roid field

The player's galaxy map should show the 12 colonies and Ragnar, Prolmar and Kimtar system. These systems should be very large..
Interestingly enough, all twelve of the Colonies as well as Ragnar are in the same solar system. I can't remember where I read this, probably on BattlestarWiki, but RDM confirmed this and says that he did it as a nod to the original series.
Elffin
26-12-2006, 02:30 PM
Yep! The 12 Colonies in the RDM series appear to be all in one solar system -
http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/The_Twelve_Colonies_%28RDM%29 does not confirm it though..
I also remember reading a debate about the 'possibility'/'impossibility' of having 12 habitable worlds in one system.
Still useful to refer to the Planets/worlds as different sectors in game.

The Civilian ships should jump on their own. Or, if possible, be able to pre-set emergency jump coordinates. If done, they jump on their own when attacked. If not, they simply sit there and get attacked. Maybe a random jump if you haven't given them emergency jump coordinates?
That would make it interesting. I'd hate to lose a ship and have to jump all over Cylon territory looking for them. :D

Again here I go sticking my nose in some other mods business. Just call me impulsive.
Ok, if this is truely a BSG mod then start at the begining.
The player is the co-pilot of the Tauron Traveler. Which later in the show becomes Colonial One. The mod is set prior to the attack of course and the player pilots the ship from where ever to Caprica. Where it drops off it's cargo and picks up the Secretary of Education and others for the BSG dedication ceremony.
Dock with BSG.
See where this is going yet?
Next, you leave BSG and head back to Caprica only to learn of the attack. You must survive the attack of two Cylon fighters while your escort deals with them.
Next mission requires you to find and convoy other ships stranded in route during the battle.
Upon completion a Raptor finds your convoy. The Raptor finds the rest of the fleet from the show for you. While Adama orders you to Ragnar Station. (it's just scripted out or a cutscene covers it)
Next mission, involves flying the raptor yourself to transport the now president to and from various ships in the convoy. We know she atleast went to one of them. Lets add a few more stops. (gets you use to a raptor before it becomes important)
Next mission, get her from Botanical Cruiser to Colonial One before time runs out and the Cylon scout jumps in. (scripted FTL ships jump away to Ragnar when scout shows up)
Next mission, fly through the nebula field and land Colonial One inside of BSG.
Next mission, undock and fly out of Nebula while BSG holds off Cylon Basestars. Survive the attack and jump.
Yep, that's right... You did the whole miniseries and you never got to fight one shot. Instead you learned how to fly and taught anyone who has forgotten how it all went down.
Script out some more story line. The entire episode 33 comes to mind. Ending it with you transferring to the Galactica as a Raptor pilot.
I think the rest is fairly straight forward from there... The player doesn't get to play God withe the BSG until they work their way into command. Which imho shouldn't happen until after the fall of New Caprica. As the player should make CAG twice in that time. Once when Apollo is in the brige for mutiny and again when Apollo takes command over the Beast.
After the fall of New Caprica you can stick the player in the command room.
These are my ideas. Originally I had plans to use them in Nexus but that all went to hell. So I place them in your hands. Just keep in mind that it is better to not allow the end user to play as one of the real characters of the show. Just take a Joe Average guy who happens to be in the show(Tauron Traveler Co-Pilot) and thrust him/her into greatness!
There are enough holes within the shows stoyline to allow the end user to pilot nearly every vessel in the mod.

Hi!
What do you think about this?
We introduce a sector called Scrap yard. It’s a common practice that the old or obsolete ship models are towed to scrap yard for demolition or conservation as a reserve fleet; civilian or military. Most of the equipment is stripped off, but here and there you could still find some useful stuff – even some large military ship hulls. Sometimes the military conduces trials and target practice. Do you catch my drift? For example at the beginning phase of game a player could practice capital ship missile assault. Of course there are still many goodies that a player could salvage at final stage of the game. For example after you settle (on earth or somewhere else) you could play a salvage mission and save as many equipment as you could and restore and rearm it at shipyard.

In one of the original shows I remember them attacking a cylon supply convoy. It carries the same fuel as the colonies use, and the base stars chasing them need resupply, so do a mission or two where you take supplys from the cylons. Just kill all the escort ships and have a ship waiting full of Marines to assault the frieghters, maybe even keep a few for use in the fleet, possibly as salvagers or miners. Just a thought, and 1 memory..lol.

I'd love to play a mission based on the episode where they went after the Cylon rebirth ship. Another real favourite would be to drop a Battlestar into the atmosphere of New Caprica, on tv that was one of the most amazing scenes I've ever seen. There's plenty of scope for recon missions in Raptors, hiding in asteroid fields and you could follow those up with Viper ambus or strike missions. Does anyone remember the episode where a Cylon fighter was taking a heavy toll on the Viper pilots before Starbuck shot it down? You could include that storyline as well. I wish I had the talent to help, but what you do is a black art to me! Good luck with it, there will be a great many BSG and X fans who will really appreciate your efforts.

How about the colonials gather food from a small uninhabited planet, then return with a good food supply to the fleet. A few days later everyone starts getting sick. The medical staff says its from something in the ground the plants sucked up so they have to sent people back to search for a cure. The cure turns out to be...a mushroom that grows there. See where this is going? A time limit, a flleet getting further away by the minute and a sickness possibly killing people while you search. The medical team could be useing a scanner to check plants and stuff till they find the cure.
