This article is about the class of ships called 'Carriers'. For the Kha'ak ship called the 'Carrier', see Carrier (Kha'ak).

Carriers are some of the biggest ships known to exist within the universe, typically used for command and control over a large fleet. Given the classification M1, they are among the biggest ships available for a pilot to command, level with M2, destroyer class ships. Battleships designed for the transportation and rapid deployment of a fleet of fighters, carriers are the ultimate space superiority vessel.

Carriers are massive capital class ships, generally requiring a huge amount of resources to produce, and hence costing from 60million to around 90million Credits, depending on race and construction. A carrier's main role is to maintain it's compliment of fighters, which can be deployed from range at the enemy, using the carrier's main guns as supporting fire.
Carriers are large ships with formidable shielding, point defences and a large capacity for carrying a number of different smaller ships within their hangars.
They are crewed by highlytrained personnel and captains chosen for their skill and aggression. Carriers rarely change their direction to avoid smaller ships.
Due to the size and density of the hulls of these great ships, to repair one percent of damage to their hulls will cost you more than what you would spend on a new M3 class ship, but that should be small change to some one as wealthy as you will be.

[top]Armament

Most standard carriers come with around 6 GJ of Shields, the major exception being the Kha'ak Carrier's much heavier shielding, at 9 GJ. Carriers typically house a fleet of fighters, which constitute most of a carrier's potential threat. While typically having less guns than a destroyer, the Xenon J being an exception with 40 guns, a carrier's ability to rapidly deploy 40 to 50 fighters onto the battlefield can make it a formidable opponent. The combined firepower of it's fighter contingent often being far stronger than it's main weaponry, and can be deployed from across the sector, for a greater effective range. However, this can leave the carrier vulnerable if it's fighters stray too much.
