The
Teladi Falcon fighter is a hybrid between the old
Argon Elite and the
Boron Piranha, with some
Split technology thrown in for good measure. It is fast, well armed and can be found operating in most sectors.
It is suspected that some of these ships have been leased by the
Teladi Company Space Fleet to operate on behalf of the pirates, although to date no actual proof of this agreement can be established.

While
Teladi tradition empathises relying on reliable low tech, low cost weapons, the
Falcon, being their mainline fighter, is extremely well armed being able to mount up to
AHEPT weaponry and can also mount the
CIG,
Ion Disruptor and
APSG. It has a rear turret that is able to mount up to
AHEPTs and can also mount the
APSG. All this is let down by the ships laser energy and recharge, which while somewhat better than the
Boron Barracuda is still only 74% of the values of the nearest equivalent conventional fighter, the
Split Mamba.
The
Teladi Falcon is the slowest and least maneuverable
M3 fighter in service today. However, to say it is the hardest to take down is an understatement. It has the ability to mount a
Corvette class
125 MJ Shield, giving an immediate increase of 40% in shield over any other
Heavy Fighter, and it also has 20% more armour than the nearest equivalent. This ship can soak up fire without losing fighting effectiveness. In a sense its low speed is also an advantage in taking damage, as while you lose speed when you take hull damage, the
Falcon has less to lose. Alone however it is easy meat to other, more maneuverable fighters who can keep out of its weapon arcs and simply wear it down.
The
Falcon can mount a wide variety of weapons, and it has the largest cargo bay in the
M3 class.
The
Hauler variant increases the cargo capacity. The
Teladi Falcon Hauler decreases the speed by 10% in exchange for a 19.8 Increase in its cargo capacity.
The
Teladi Falcon Hauler was an attempt to emulate the success of the
Buzzard Hauler. However, the lack of maneuverability and speed means that it is a rather worse choice for trading than a standard freighter, even taking into account its heavy shielding. Therefore it is a rare sight outside of convoys, but recently it has been seen more and more in mining operations where its ability to hold XL cargo has been found to be very useful
[hide][top]Known Ships of this Type
The use of this design for mining was first discovered in
Seizewell, and its use was discovered by the notoriously crafty miners in the system. Rumours of other uses, such as a persistent rumour that a phalanx of these ships surrounded the Executive Transport during negotiations on the design of the
Vulture Miner and helped to concentrate the minds of the representatives of the board of management in approving this design, cannot be confirmed at present.
Its is often seen in
Seizewell and is used in mining operations in dangerous areas
