The term
Pirate Elite can be used to describe a
heavy fighter used by some
pirates in XTM. It is a modified version of the old
Argon Elite.

The
Pirate Elite is an old design kept alive by pirates who do not have the resources or connections to buy state-of-the-art ships, but who are still ambitious enough to want a ship with proper firepower. It is a "budget" heavy fighter, better and more difficult to get one's hands on than the more standard pirate ships like the
Nova and the
Falcon.
When the Elite was retired from service ca. 764, to be replaced by the
Nova, there were many old ships still out there, being phased out. These old Elites were of little interest to the
Argon authorities once they had been stripped of weapons and classified technology, and most of them were auctioned off or sold as scrap. Some of these would be picked up by businessmen hoping to refurbish and sell them at a profit, and others were bought by aspiring pilots looking for their first heavy fighter. Some of these pilots may not have the most legal of intentions; they were what merchants would call "pirates".
Using various connections, anything from scrap dealers to pirate syndicate shipyards and equipment docks, one could get the old Elites back up to speed. Depending on the state of the frame, individual tuning could be applied. As a result, the Elites pirates fly today vary greatly from ship to ship, both in weapons layout, speed, maneuverability and shielding. Mostly, though, unscrupulous pilots tend to take a chance and tune their ships beyond what was considered safe by the Argon designers. As such, this ship is faster.
The Pirate Elite is very fast, but is lacking in shielding. Its front guns are very good, but the laser generator is not as strong as it could be; thus, the ship is mostly designed for quick strike-and-return attacks, not drawn-out battles.

The Pirate Elite can use both
plasma throwers and
mass drivers in its main gun, and it also has the option of mounting
long-range weaponry - though this is not recommended, as the ship has very little cargo space. It has a twin rear turret for taking care of incoming missiles.
