Unknown Sector

Frequently, scouting and charting expeditions reveal previously unknown gates and the sectors beyond them are quickly taken over by whichever race can get to them first. Some of these Unknown Sectors are rumored to be around Xenon areas, and these are the ones that take longest to be extensively explored and populated.

In some cases these previously unclaimed sectors are bought by entrepreneurs, such as as the aptly named Avarice sector, a sector currently up for sale by Teladi liquidators.

Pilots who stumble across undiscovered sectors are asked by their respective governments to supply the authorities with the details of the location, and are advised to proceed with caution into such sectors. There have been several reported incidents where pilots have ventured deep into a new sector only to be met by enemy forces. Few have survived such encounters.

It is noted that often new sectors contain many bonuses for those who find them. Various valuable minerals and wares have been discovered in them, and occasionally lost ships have turned up in such unexplored sectors.
