Default Military Hud mod for x3, XTM - By Ulfius

Hi guys, I'm what you might call a late starter (bought X3 last month) and I hope this is the right forum to post a little modification I made.

First, however, I must say all the Independent and Dev content that's come out for the Game has really inspired me, I'm naturally inclined to tinker with games to suit my liking but some of this stuff is completely amazing. Thanks for sharing your great ideas and inventions with the community guys.

      UPDATE
It's been almost a year since I released this mod and much has changed. The Hud Mod is now known as the Military Hud MKII and is available for dowload from the Combat Mod 2 thread.

      Link Here: http://www.thexuniverse.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=11418

      Screenshots Here:

      Features:
      Bright ship icons.
Stylish cross-hair, red dot pointer in combat mode.
      Circular hi-visibility target lead indicator.
      Clearer weapon energy gauge.
New weapon icons with colored indicators.
Bright glowing yellow missile and Squash mine indicators.
Distinctive gold cargo container/unknown object indicators.
      New Speed indicator.
      Smooth-bar shield and hull indicators.
Plus a lot of other stuff I've forgotten about...

A BIG thank-you to doubleshadow for his applications and tutorials - making the x3 mechanics easily accessible - even to an amateur like myself. Now guys, it's up to you and your replies -

      Default Interest?

Not sure about anyone else but I'm interested in a HUD mod that is easier to see. Does this one give ability to change colors--in some sectors the hud colors disappear into the nebula.

The reds, greens and especially the blues are much brighter, (the gravidar/map icons practically glow). I can release alternate colored versions if anyone prefers. The changing colors option is a good idea but can't be done in-game.

*edit* I am thinking of making the neutral blue crosshair/reticules a pale blue starlight perhaps.

seems really nice, would like to try it out
      it's not uploaded yet ?

one thing I'd like too (just suggesting)
is a better gravidar for locating ships compared to your position

what I mean is that :
with the current gravidar I'm totally unable to locate an lone far away object in space without targeting it

maybe it's me and my skills though but still
-the playership location on the gravidar isn't obvious
-and the gravidar rectangle is kind of strange (should be a kind of sphere in my humble opinion)

I know some germans did a new gravidar for X3 without XTM, but I don't read german and the only XTM compatible HUD right now is neumanf's

Can't do attachments - I'm a brand new member, I can fileshack though...
      http://www.fileshack.us/get_file.php...litary+Hud.rar
I was a little unsure about loading this up as I wanted to see if there was a demand for this sorta thing first, - didn't want to add any unwanted clutter, so to speak.

Have a go bud. Also I'll nail together a brand new gravidar just for you , it's a good idea. Should have something you can test uploaded by Tomorrow.

Thanks bud! That means a lot coming from a skilled scripter like yourself. Stay tuned, I reckon your clearer gravidar idea is gold. I should have something up n ready very soon - if not tomorrow.

      *edit*
All I can say is Photoshop is a real timesaver.

It's based on the x2 gravidar, I added my personal touch and de-cluttered it but thats all I can take credit for.

Let me know what you think. It's much easier to pick out and zero in on contacts now - although it'll probably still be useless when you've got about 20 xenon circling you.

I've noticed that the gravidar clips icons off at the sides a little (like a blind spot) there is nothing I can do about this, it happens with the standard x3 gravidar too.

It's not really obvious, but the spherical design shows it up more than the grid/square original. Might explain why the standard x3 gravidar is a diamond shape. Anyways, let me know what you think. Should the Range pips be kept? Less clutter? Perfect? etc etc.

just going to say I like it for now
I need a few hours of testing to see if there's anything I'd like you to improve...

the only thing I see right now is that height is still quite hard to jauge but I don't think you can do anything about it

by the way it's already like 1000% better than the original gravidar
