      Default The Best M2

Recently restarted X3TC, looking at purchasing my first M2 in game in this fully vanilla round... and wanted to see what everyone though the best M2 was in game, and why...

      Fire away...

Terran Osaka ... why? Cause this ship has the power to clear up a cmplete Xenon sector, 472... -> 1x K, 1x J, 4x Q, a lot of Ps and escorts. What I have to say more??

      Btw:

Galder would say, that his ship will be a Boron M2...

Indeed, because of Gazz's turret fix it can shoot 24 PPCs straight to a target ahead of him The side turrets have an enormous shooting arch. No other ship can match that

      Well, here's an interesting thing:

The OTAS Boreas is the only M2 which can mount PPCs in its rear turret. This is obviously a huge tactical advantage, as you can run away... er, I mean, "tactically reposition" ...while still pouring PPC fire on a target which is chasing you. Because of the relative motion of both ships, your shots will have significantly longer range than your opponent's. Used properly, this tactic can make you untouchable.

If you can't stand the Boreas for whatever reason, despite its advantages (such as speed and 10 GJ of shielding), there are a handful of other M2s which can fire Incendiary Bomb Launchers from the rear turret. Of these, the Argon Titan, Boron Ray, and Paranid Odysseus can mount 8, while the Pirate Brigantine, Split Pyhton, and Yaki Akuma can only mount 6.

"Fire and flee" may not fit your play style at all. If not, Galder is probably right... the Boron Ray has awesome frontal firepower. My personal favorite, however, is the ATF Tyr. This is because the side turrets can mount 12 PSPs instead of the usual 8. While the sustained firepower of PSPs is weak compared to PPCs, a fully-charged volley of 12 rounds is sufficient to cripple a J or K and to kill a Q outright. If you time that charged volley so that it hits as soon as the target enters maximum range, you have more than enough time to finish it off before it becomes a threat. Since you said you were buying an M2, rather than capturing one, I guess the Tyr is off the list for now.

The Osaka can't do the 12x PSP trick, but it does have the best shields of any ship you can purchase. If you like to be able to withstand punishment, or ram your enemies to death (lol), then the Osaka is your boat.

There... I think I just recommended every M2 in the game...

agree with galder. when i played x2 i always choosed boron m2 because its 24 GPPC firing ahead. iirc it has rather small fron frame so it's not so easy to hit. that's my 5 cents.

If you want get something done do it by yourself

      Fantastic work guys...

I see know that I really don't know what to go for, still...

I used to use the Boron M2 in X3R...

Anyways, first step it to get me a M7 so that I can save up a bit more for the M2...

Well I haven't bought me an M2 in any of the (almost-)vanilla X3TC games I started because so far I always got fed up with the game before reaching that point.

I used the Oddy a lot in X2 (full PSG), and in XTM the Tyr was a good choice to just see everything explode

Have to agree that the Boron Ray sounds interesting, plus I like Boron ships a lot. Or maybe I'll just choose one M2 by the looks and "adjust" it a bit.

I'm going to be buying one soon too... And I can't quite make up my mind between the OTAS Boreas and the Boron Ray. Is the Boreas's extra speed really worth it? It's only a little faster, which still makes it dreadfully slow. I think I'm leaning towards the Ray for the extra guns up front. This way I'll never have to use that extra speed to run away.

its not just the speed, the boreas also has better shielding, and better shield and weapon generators..
the cargo is smaller, but sufficient (atleast in cmod 3 where your weapons need less space)
and it has a better ruder..
i believe it doesnt rly matter which one you get. either you have 24 PPC on the enemy and you have to be faster, since you run out of shields and weapons energy a lot faster. or you take 16 PPC and can stand a while longer against enemy fire.

by the way, a question, whats betterm cluster flak or flak arrays?

Cluster flak arrays are inferior - regardless whether it's cmod or plain X3:TC.
