I missed the news on x:R whats happening with that?

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.p...1925&start=450
it's the egosoft forum thread where everything X:R is being discussed. I haven't seen the update myself but knowing others have information on it is good. Also... I find it very much a strange thing that the Egosoft main site is having issues just as this new update happened, I sense a conspiracy happening where they block access to all/most users so they ain't seeing the real information going on with this news!
also the user hawat gave the information on that and of course there is the youtube link to a vid, though it's completely in german, which I don't understand one bit of. link below.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuWx9GZtG1o
Basically in a nutshell from what everything that's being blown up over is
1. Only one controllable ship will be available to "control/fly" and it's upgradable. (yes that means you can't fly cap ships)
2. X:R release date has been pushed into 2012, presumably I guess spring time.

There is also this, it's best to read the more information posts then the ranting in the thread. I posted it at the page I began to read on up until page 34.
http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.p...=asc&start=345
thread seems to have the most up to date information.
After reading it some of my fears have been realized and also set aside. X:R Might have promise but I still feel funny about the sudden 360 ES is doing.
It has been confirmed that although we can't fly cap ships we can own them and hire crews for them.
Player ship is modular, which could mean a lot of things. Makes me think of the EVE custom cruiser even though I quit playing that game, I never got around to collecting stuff to actually build the ship. But the concept might be taken from there. Maybe we'll even get to modify the hull design/layout look of the ship? besides upgrading weapon systems, shield systems, hull and other systems of the ship.

Basically, the presentation reveals that:
- you'll never be able to leave your ship.
- you have a female co pilot and get a crew, which you can't get rid off. Probably a problem for all people trying to make a different ship available. Suggestion that you'll be able to "walk" around in your ship.
- the ware system has now 12 new wares (but is still the old one, if you can read between the lines)
- you can only remotely control drones by using the old TC windows (special drones/torpedoes)
- you have to hire managers for your stations
- you will hire captains for caps, but you can't give them detailed commands, you get comm options to give orders
- no multiplayer
- Seta is now limited to spacelanes (Slipstream)
- everything gets bigger, you get different spacelanes, some like gatejumps, some like SETA only, but unbreakable as long as you stay inside. You can fight in there and leave at any time.
- Jumpgates are taking you to another sector/sun system
- Playership will be upgradable, EQ dock anyone?
- You can put additional turrets on caps, like lasertowers or shield generators.
- You can desroy jumpdrives, engines separately, because they are now on the surface
- Complexes are now scaled down and called modules, nothing changes here, only smaller, crews will enhance production, so you can upgrade to L, XL without changing the model, maintaining the FPS
- Mining will be introduced... probably inspired by Eve.
- races will get subfactions (called companies in TC)
- there will be a cockpit in your ship (Yukk)
All in all, i vented already in the german forum part. I'm not really looking forward to this. Basically, it's a X-BTF with the graphics and settings of TC 2.0. Upgradable ship... man, as if we haven't had an EQ dock in the last X series games. Upgrading rudder and speed... yeah, i get excited. Adding turrets outside is nothing else than the outer docking slots we already have right now. These turrets can be applied to stations also. It's not as if we had lasertowers and OWPs before. The only difference is that they aren't glued to a fixated structure. More laser turrets, more more missile turrets, more shield generators... more..more..more... and myself sitting forever in a X-shuttle type ship with the stats of a Springblossom, never being able to fly a cap of fighter anymore. More destruction, more firepower... more... and i know how the enemies were handled in TC. This part is probably not finished at the moment. If i'm right, they add so much more moremore that they are suddenly striked by the thought that the planned enemies don't pose a threat anymore, and they need some nifty uber weapons like PBEs and PBGs. Has anyone realised that there are no combat scenes available? Perhaps because all that doesn't really look new? I mean a battle should be a lot more impressive than some station screenshots very close to the surface, or not?
Giving Betty a model which you can look at. Two seconds after the release, there'll be a nude patch (mod) for herAnd what if i don't like to play argon? As Betty is a female co pilot, you're not only tied to a single ship, but also to a single race. If you like to play split, teladi, boron... sorry, take two aspirin and come back when we make our first DLC available on Steam. Oh, i forgot... this also means only one game start available, if you think a bit further. We had this glorious idea also in XTC, and some of us got pretty quickly rid of it. This game gets more and more linear, you don't have the choice anymore, you have to play according to their imagination. When i think of the Mission lead designer, i'm not sure if they're capable to give factions/companies more room than in TC. The whole gamedesign is transporting this one to a streamlined gameplay to swim better within the mainstream. Upgrdes, weapons, ships, economy, everything stays the same with some cosmetic changes. Everything is centered around the player and the storyline. To be honest, if i'm presented something like Balance Of Power, the Aldrin missions or even A New Home or the Terran/Argon missions i'm not impressed, not even thinking about the repetition in the Khaak plot or even the HUB!!! plot. A good scripter isn't automatically a gifted storyteller. I still hope that there will be someone having an eye on that, as TC was plot and mission wise a disappointment.
I predicted already that there would be only one ship available for the player months ago, and i was right. I think the next step would be to introduce a Steam account for activation and to introduce DLCs. 2.99 Euros for a Split start and crew. Thinking about the modding friendly environment of the game, it'll be hard to get rid of the "crew" element to make other ships available for the player. It'd also require a warp script to transport the player to a new ship, as long as they don't forget to remove the old MD commands from TC. I think, my gaming focus is beginning to shift slightly towards Skyrim... all in allBut that's my very own, personal view on Rebirth at the moment, and there's still some hope that they get to their senses. Maybe it's nicer around the corner?
/edit: ...and if you use the ES link provided above, you can see that even Nanook as a ES mod is haring my view... partially.

Yeah... atm I don't wanna think about it... only time will tell but I have a sneaking suspicion that ES just shot itself in the foot, wrapped their hands around a grenade and let if go off. I get the feeling that they might be hurting them selves by going in the 360 degree direction... I'll stop as typing about it is only making me depressed as a avid gamer, I hate being disappointed.
I also suspect that if players are disappointed they'll go back to X3:TC and the various mods it has.
Hopes desperately that the MD guy who wrote missions and plots for XTC is much better at it then the MD guys over at ES as what Galder has stated the plots in Terran Conflict are lacking severely.

The problem is the severe lack of MD-scripters (not only for XTC). Most scripters use just SE and the few who are able to produce MD-stuff have several other problems, such as limited performance of the MD, limited options (no proper use of the menu-gui for instance), also programming is limited to that messy xml-style, which is personally preventing me to learn MD at all.
However, we do have able MD-scripters... but I think I won't go too far, if I say, that you shouldn't expect too much on plot-side (missions will get a severe upgrading for 2.0 and there will be some plot-action, but not overly much) .

Not to mention that MD guys at Egosoft had all other programmers right on hand to explain what does what and fix/change the things they wanted.. Our coders are stuck with this clumsy system as-is, and that's also a severe handicap...
Anyway, imo there's ground for taking both sides.. On one hand, just another clone of X3 - like X4: Aldrin conflict or something, would be seriously boring to play - I'm doubtless glad they are finally shaking up the rather stale formula. On the other hand, limiting to one ship, forcing a human co-pilot.. idk. It sounds just far too much like Darkstar One to me - and that game was pretty poor.
