I totally agree with Trickmov. He nailed it down, that's why the MD isn't a good way to code.

For the XTC plots... i don't know if the XTC plots are better than the TC ones. I respect the work which has gone into both, TC plots and XTC ones, but if they're good or not is not my decision, that's up to the players. I know how much time and work has gone into the Leviathan thing by Jens Ka. I know that Dillpickle is working hard, but XTC doesn't claim to be the solution to absolutely everything. So your mod, Requiemfang, is a bit of relief. To see someone really working on things, changing it to his prefered way to play, and not only complaining, is the way to enhance and develop something a bit further. Although i don't agree with your view on ships this is something to respect. Unfortunately, because of the lack of MD coders, it should happen the same if missions or plots doesn't fit to your playstyle, but it won't, as there are too few people being able to change these MD files. That's why the players will decide if they like it or not.

Fortunately, XTC goes the opposite way of Rebirth. The sandbox is the key to the mod, not the storyline. So if you don't like it, you simply skip them, and you won't miss a thing. The Leviathan can be still purchased

I'll give ES the benefit of the doubt though, this is all merely speculation.

again I can't take all the credit for the hull mod as Scoob also worked on it. It's as much his project as mine, but as a part time modder I thank you for the compliment in that.

I hope they wise up, otherwise this will be a big flop of a game, Some of the upgrades sound good, the others are horrible.
what would make this worse, is if they made it as a console game and ported it to PC and jacked all the commands like some companies do.

Just saw the newest vid about Rebirth from Bernt..it seems there's will be a lot of micromanagement, and as a pilot that loved his multiple ships, it seems that you own and fly ONE, but can control others via some sort of 3d visor like devise. It makes it seem like your there but your really in the command ship. Drones are going to play a big thing too, and you can control them like we did in X2, flying through the maze for info.If it makes you feel like your in control then flying by remote it might not be too bad, but I for one need that feel that I can change ships from time to time.As far as factorys go, you can mod them one section at a time, not like having to buy multiple stations to make complexes, one station can BE a complex with different modules to do different things. But you need a factory manager, and they can be hired in different skill levels, and captains for your ships will need to be hired the same way. For people who like 'throw away crews and people' this will shock them, because you get to meet and know the skills of all your men and managers, so killing them without a thought might be harder, but it definitely will be more lifelike.

So many ships, so little time

Yea, I like the complex idea.... no more snaking a station through asteroids and trying to connect them.
you can just purchase it through a station console real estate agent type thing.... And the crew for ships and stations will be nice too.

I never really had an empire I played as a hired mercenary or a protection specialist, hehe. I refused assassination missions in favor of protection missions, that's who my guy was. So having crews and managers with names and a coms link to speak to them is good for me, but it will cramp the style of those who mass-produced stations and ships to make an empire as fast as possible.I never had a god complex so having more than a dozen ships to me meant my guy was a total success and I deleted him and started again. One man without political backing working from a small ship up to owning carriers and battleships with faction ok, is a heck of a lifetime, one thing that none of the X games had to limit the expansion of empires was politics, like monopoly laws, limiting how many stations and complexes you could own in an area. Those that love being a god like person hates the idea of any controls so this new game might not suit them since each station and ship needs attention from the 'Admiral' in charge.

I really hope they put the additional time to a very, extremely good use. The "visor" as you name it, krm, is the upper left monitor. You can steer your own ships from your seat right now, without any fancy mod. You make the window maximised (which is barely the double of the actual monitor window and it's still small) and select a ship in your property. Now you can steer and shoot with that particuar ship without leaving your seat. 3d visor, perfect. This was also sold as a PR gag when TC came out in 2008. It was the feature for the player to get "faster and quicker" into action. They advertised the same functionality already in 2008, and now they're selling it once again as a complete new feature. That's pretty cheap in my eyes, and if i'd like to limit myself to fly drones, i'd not even decouple from a station. Why should i? Why should i risk my 6 when i can see everything with drones? Why should i even fly around?

The managers and captains and their skill level is nothing but the levelling system derived from the sector/universe traders. The fact that they level up does not imply they get better in combat skills... they just level up. If they are better or worse is a question of how good these combat scripts are made... and please remember vanilla TC. The AI is not that bright, every player knows that, and you can even trick a cap and shoot it down in your tiny M3. Also, we STILL have an utterly broken OOS combat, without ever experiencing a possible solution. I'm not that sure that a team, which wasn't able to solve in sector combat AND out of sector combat for almost four years would be capable to write a suitable combat script for this kind of battle. I expect to see a slightly new flight text file, with some pointers added to the slipstream feature. But i don't expect to see a better combat/flight ability.

Overall, it'd have been a lot better if they hadn't used the X backgroundstory. Nobody would care about missing features or flying around with drones. But they did, and we can compare to the older games, and if you see this kind of announcement while knowing how the old ones worked, it's not only a cheap marketing gag, ut's feeling like they try to fool you. A visor for drone fights? And i can already test it in vanilla TC?

/edit: ....and to point it out... i never liked the X-shuttle. In my eyes it looks like a mutated trash can with thrusters. If i'm tied to a ship that ugly, to suffer through some "plot" like the terran/aldrinhub plot just for the sake of it, i'd never be able to finish those plots, as i'd get bored and disgusted after the first ingame hour. If i'd like to see my minions slaughtering some other colored ppixels, i'd install Homeworld on my PC, but certainly not an X game.

Ok, I am also not really "thrilled" by the features mentioned so far. There seem to be some elemental improvements and other than Galder I expect them to have solved the main issues they had in the previous games. Also they don't get tired to explain again and again that this is a new game, thus I don't expect the same AI as in TC or the same drone-steering from TC.

However, the ability to fly only one ship by myself is a real game-breaker for me. My Vanilla-games in the previous games were mainly playing the plotline to a certain extinct, perhaps inclusive building up a small-medium trade-empire, until it gets boring (which was always the point, when I got faster cash than I can spend it). My restarts were mainly flying another ship, race, playstyle. But exactly this way to replay my games will be completly gone with XR... that is always the same ship, the same race, the same plot, etc. Thus for me this means a huge loss in freedom and abilities.

I hope for a fine/challenging/enjoying game they will do... but imo the long-play-factor they had with their current games, will be lost because of the lack of choice/freedom they want to sell us as "new feature".

I don.t like the single ship idea either, For one going into battle and being force to control your other ships from a m3 or m6 size ship is like bringing a knife to a gun fight. I rather sit myself in a large protected ship balanced to the fleet I will attack. So for me that is a game breaker altogether.

Ego and the X universe have been around for a long time. And in my opinion, they had THE best sandbox space sim in existence. If they limit things from the start, making us nothing more than an 'admiral' in our fleet with the ability to order others around while not being there in person, then the X Universe might end here. Then all we'll have is our modders to try to save the game, if that's even possible. or we'll be modding the old games forever as Ego fades into darkness. If this game copys elements of other games that didn't succeed, then I'm afraid to say , they deserve to fail because they copied ideas and features from games that failed. Like the highways of Freelancer, or the idea of a single, moddable ship like Dark Star One. Lets see how they make it work, before giving up on them completely, but I fear the worst the way things are going, and they're not doing much to reinforce our hopes with new info right now either.

So many ships, so little time
