Default Enjoying TXU forums for Linux users

*** This thread originated from a technical question by 3bitbrain, and it helped to shed lome light on why some users could not take full advantage of TXU forums modules and scripts.

Apparently some browsers running under Linux don't show all the buttons and functions available in forum forms and panels, but some seem better than others, as ThanRo pointed out here below.

Thank to both the mentioned posters for helping each other and the community ***

I was informed that this was the proper forum to post some patch scripts.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to :

upload to TXU, and then create a download link from TXU.

My habit is to "look for / read the directions first" if I don't know what I am doing.
Which might explain this post in this thread.

Any advice / directions / pointers welcome. Thanks.

You can upload images, text files and zip files as attachments to your posts. There is a limit in size, but for scripts in zipped files there should be no problems.

To do that, just click on the [go advanced] button at the bottom right corner of the new post panel; this will add several icons in the post editing window - among them also a small paperclip that allows to directly add an attacment to the post - and below the posting window you'll find several other options including an attachment manager (nothing much more powerful than the inline attachment but could be useful).

That should be sufficient for most necessities

Unhappy Thank You, still have a problem though ...

      FYI ...

My Posting Permissions say that I am not allowed attachments.
I have not been able to find the ' Manage Attachments ' button on any posts I have made.
And I did try starting a new thread in the correct forum ( Scripting and Modding ).

I am wondering if I need a " Root / SuperUser " to give me permission / change a setting.

      Will try again later ...

The forum mod we used to use for this area doesn't work with vB4, this post is actually out of date now. Not sure why you cannot attach things to a post, it could be you have to have a certain number of posts before you are allowed. I'll have to ask Moko about this.

You should be able to upload files to our downloads section though and link to the page from a thread here.

Lightbulb Thanks. I may found the problem ...

The problem I am having may have something to do with my web browser. Its Firefox 3.6.23
      Not exactly the latest ....

Have to find another web browser on Linux that is more ? up to date ?

      We'll see what happens ...

If you just want to have a browser you can try chromium.
      http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Chromium

If you are thinking about to change your distro: what about debian?

      Unhappy Intresting test results ...

Thanks for the pointer to the Remi repository / Firefox 7.

The test = Upload a 32KB zip file to General X3 Downloads.

      Test Results :

      Firefox 3.6.23 ( Linux w/Open JDK )
comment / info / description box not appearing for data entry. unable to upload.
      no Firefox extensions / plugins / add-ons.
      Firefox 7.01 ( Linux w/Open JDK)
      same as above
GNOME epiphany ( Linux w/Open JDK)
      same as above
      GNOME2 galeon ( Linux w/Open JDK)
      same as above
NOTE : have not tried KDE and its browsers.

      Firefox 7.01 (WinXP SP2, no Java, .Net v2 )
      same as above
      Firefox 7.01 (WinXP SP2, Java6 Update 27, .Net v3.5 )
      same as above

Internet Exploder 6 (WinXP SP2, no Java, .Net v2 )
      unreadable, giberish
      Internet Exploder 6 (WinXP SP2, Java6 Update 27, .Net v3.5 )
      unreadable, giberish

I am kind of ... well ... stumped at this point.
It is possible for me to post ... but not upload.

Would it be possible to ' e-mail the file ' or ' ftp transfer to server ' ?
I'll be happy to maint. a info / updates type thread / post.

The only real problem with that approach is the continual additions of fixes / tweaks.
And someone else would have to "upload".
That 32KB has ?10? scripts plus 5 ANSI text info files in it.

Question : is this web site optimized for Internet Exploder version "??"
      Sorry, had to ask ....

      Any suggestions / ideas ?

Thanks Mokonzi Points (Total), ThanRo thanked for this post
