Question Sector Trader Script Won't "Start"

      SOLVED...

All, thanks for your help with this one... I think I found the answer - see the last past for details.

      Thank you...

Hey everyone, after years of happy gaming with Xtended for X3R, I finally took the plung over last weekend and moved on to XTC... First, *love* what the Team have done with the game. Awesome.

Next, I hit a weirdness with my first attempt at Sector Trading.

      Context:
I did the "Argon" start. I have now worked my way up to 2 ships, an Elite and a Mercury.
I have 1 script installed thus far, Cycrow's "Cheat" script.

I would like to set my Mercury up as a Sector Trader in Sirius Prime. I have the software installed and the ship is ready to go. When I use the Ship Menu to "Start Sector Trader" the ship status goes from Idle to "Standby", but nothing else happens. I did a search of the forums and couldn't find a match where anyone else has reported similar. I must have done something really silly here.

Happy to experiment and/or to provide details of system configuration and game state for anyone able to point me in the right direction.

      Thanks in advance,

      C

      Hi,

Thank you very much for responding to my question. By saying "I have got the software installed", I just meant that I have the Trade Software that gives me the Sector Trader functionality.

I think you might have answered my question for me, when you wrote that a Sector Trader still neads to have a home base. I do not have any stations deployed yet, so I cannot assign a home base to this TS craft. I guess I need to save up a bit more to pay for a factory, and try again when I have done that.

I'm very grateful for your help - thank you!

You don't need any stations, a non-homebased ST will just use your personal money-account.

If it goes on Standby, that usually means that it checked the sector, did not find any clear profit deals, and now will wait for some in-game time before checking again. To have a deal, the ware itself needs to sell cheap and be in demand somewhere else in that same sector - that condition is very rarely true for a lot of sectors, so you'll need to pick a good sector for the training, otherwise (and even then, in fact) the trader will spend a lot of time on standby.

Now... It could be that the command itself failed somehow and the ship went into a general 'standby'.. Though I doubt it, sector & universe trader scripts have been pretty stable even since X3:Reunion. One way to know is this - if the ship's pilot's name is some random race-person name (probably wiht a number after it), then the ST/UT commands are working. If the pilot name is your own, then the trading commands are notworking, afaik..

For sector trading, I don't think there are any requirements as such - just a trade-capable ship that can dock and the trade command softwares. For universe trading you will need the shields as well. The ship-trader will buy a jumpdrive on it's own.

Sirius Prime is a poor sector to start trading in. No Ressources and Products will need a lot of time before they are ready to be sold.
It would be better if you take a look at the neighboring sector Sirius II or New Horizons. In both sectors the Trader will be busy for
a long time and hit level 6 in no time.

I agree with @Urizen, I start all my Sector Traders in New Horizons.
Takes less than an hour before they're ready to upgrade to Universal Traders.
I've never set a home-base for an ST before.

I always set a homebase for my traders. there is nothing more annoying if you want to buy a bulk of new ships and don´t have the money for it, because all of your traders had to buy something pricey. Yes, Murphy´s laws apply to XTC as well .
Not to mention that it really comes in handy for docks and shipyards. no need to constantly throw money at those.

Ok, I'm completely confused. Are we talking station traders, local traders, commercial traders, or sector/universal traders?

They are taking about Player ships, command Start sector trader (as long as you install the right equipment and upgrades) then by setting them free in Sirus II or New Horizons they can get level 8 real fast to then command them as "Universal Traders". I always use those sectors for like 2 to 4 new ones each time each sector. After you have about 20 ships running money comes in easier.

Also larger TS climb quicker, so if you start with a small ship you can always move the pilot to larger TS later in the game.

Dude, I know what a Sector/Universal Trader is.
But it doesn't sound like Urizen is talking about those.
it sounds more like the Commercial Traders (CLS1 and CLS2) that came with the X3:TC Bonus Pack.
I didn't think the Bonus Pack was compatible with XTC.
