just wondering, erex, if you were able to fix your issues and if so, how? i also have a steam version of x3:reunion, and if it is not going to work with xtm then i will not install it and save myself some headaches

Ok so you download it correct? Well you can run it and put in DO NOT RUN STEAM on the STEAM Properties now that my cause an issue where it won't run, but it will allow you to play it but it may get finicky at times.
for some reason ive always had to run my steam version of reunion from the files folder, if i try to run it from steam itself, it wont start and worse, if i try to run it after that until i reboot my puter it tells me its already running and wont start again anyway. i will admit my curiosity got the better of me and i went ahead and installed both the NH and the XTM mods for reunion, so now i have 3 folders with reunion in it (one for NH, one for XTM, and one for vanilla) and i just have to make sure the one i want to play is in a folder called X3 Reunion so i just rename the other 2 to whats in them and so far seems to work fine, but ive only played about 2 hrs... my flight stick is acting funny so it will be a while before i buy a new one and put in some serious time. i wish i could fly in that one with my mouse same as X3TC. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to respond! good to see other people are playing the older X games too!

So don' tput hte Run STEAM you can click the icons and still play it. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\X3 - Reunion\mods and put all the mods there. Steam won't allow you to run the X3 Reunion SDK though.
