      Default Combat rebalance suggestion

Hokay I know its late in the day fr such a suggestion. However there is still no definite release date so ...

As I started rising in combat level I saw more and more enemies in sector patrol missions. At some point yesterday I had 30 M8s and more than a hundred M3s of various tpyes spawn, despite making sure to kill M1s as a priority. In the end the amount of vessels completely overpowers my system (depsite in theory being a gaming pc). The worst part seems to be the 1000s of sounds that can not be contributed. Usually a jump to another gate in system (delayed by a good minute or two after the count to 100%) would be followed by a black screen and a minute of delayed sounds that get played out and then once this is complete the jump actually happens. On a rare coupld of occasions these sound included missile warnings and explosions and there would be a game over after the ship had jumped allready at half shields (as if the damage fromt the explosions was counted when the sounds finally palyed out... At other times the vessels (all but mine) would freeze immobile and at 0 speed in space, without firing... Needless to say that was very convenient ... if a little immersion rbeaking lol.

Anyhow the suggestion is to script combat missions to spawn more M2s and M2+s (if need be) and no M1s or if M1s are wanted then without their 111111111111111111111111 fighters, or at least without the ability to make more as they pop... to help the frame rate a tad...

      Thank you

Hi Crellion and thanks for your report/suggestion.
As you know our XTC version 2.0 is in development and hopefully soon to be released. In that new version we have addressed several bugs and i guess there shouldn't be anymore an 'overspawning' of ships as the case you just reported.

In any case, just for good sake, please add to your report the information regarding your installed version and - most important - if you have any other script or mod installed.

      (a) Version is TC with bonus pack (I know I was not supposed to but saw it late and has given me no hussle so I left it as is) and XTC latest.

      (b) I do not think it was a bug just an issue with M1s spawning too many M3s which I guess is really more of an intended feature. Please not I have had this in Very Hard patrols and accepting 2xAverage patrols for the same sector only.

      (c) If you are interested in bugs I actually have one: with the set uo mentioned above some missions come up with ";;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;" in the information text. I believe they are return ship missions as I only ever found one of those so I think probably something corrupts the majority of them and replaces them with ;;;;;;;; text. I have not reported this before as with an advanced TC version and bonus pack I assumed it was my fault.

..........that is why the bonus pack is incompatible, it overwrites part of XTC, corrupting the game files related to all kinds of stuff.....try re-installing, skip the bonus pack this time and see if that fixes your "bug", and if it doesn't, THEN report it in the bug report forum.

Or XTC overwrites the BP...the questions is, which one was installed first?!
But if you consider a new installation of XTC you should use Lucike's Script Collection instead...(with the XTC 1.2a Compliance Upgrade of course!)

I am not such a great fun of moding that I have to do installs upon installs upon instals and finding the right files to unzip in etc etc... Then when something is wrong you scratch your head about what the reason is. For me installing X3TC once and then XTC 2.0 over it will do the trick

As fot bonus pack etc yeah I know I said so to begin with. This thread is about a rebalnce of combat suggestion, mainly more M2s and less M1s (with endless fighter replacements) for frame rate. Any views on this lads?

Well it's not really a combat rebalance. What you are asking for is a mission spawnbehaviour change
You are free to accept as many missions as you want, but you shouldn't complain about bad performance then, as each combat mission is a "spawn more enemies for me please" request from you. Or was it just a single mission that you did at the time?

Well the critical mass where my pc sort of dies is two average spawns or one very hard spawn. However the specifics dont matter as such. The more the ranks go up eventually you can "break" even the best pc's framerate.

Also please note I am not complaining but suggesting an alternative. In particular I ma not suggesting an alternative (or complaining) for the total difficulty of the oposition. If you could take out the 100 M3s and replace them with 30 M2s (surely a more difficult opponent?) I would be happy as a clam...

Anyway it seems that most people are takign this the wrong way so please feel free to ignore - delete - lock, no reason to mess with the good vibes in this forum

No, we took your point, but probably replacing the M1 and their M3 fighters with an appropriate number if M2 won´t solve the performance problem, Destroyers are known for one thing bulletspam.
There are some other ways to increase performance...

I guess the OP has been sufficiently debated - Going to lock the thread now (feel free to PM me in case you really feel you have something more to add to the issue )

      Only as a closing reminder:
Regarding performance and bulletspam we try to keep the game playable as much as possible, considering an average gaming rig (i.e. dual core @ 2Ghz with a 'decent' GPU and 4Gb ram - or any minimum specs as set in the vanilla game requirements). In Version 2.0 there will be further improvements on the performance side, trying as much as possible to avoid overloading the player's machine through general gameplay.
We can't (and won't try to) do so much for limiting performance impact of every thing the player may do... if one wish to build a babel tower kind megacomplex or start all the combat missions that can be found... then that's a 'common good sense' issue, not a programmers' problem
