spoiler: Ok, the Asgard is a mobile death trap for anyone fool enough to attack it. Not only is it loaded with weapons..... but I just docked a Morrigu and Polacca on it.

Eh your right that really is one hell of a ship now, docked a Poseidon and Raptor.

spoiler: The first mission requires 404 & 304 so I think these would be part of the requirement, 406 and Serocco aren't used till the second mission so i don't think they would be a factor

spoiler: In my game, Orca ("Star of Atreus") in the unknown sector south of Glow of Faith is at 50-15-20 (i.e. 20 not 30) - not sure if yours is a typo or if the position varies. Dashes represent negatives.

      Default Feedback

I found spoiler: Base of Operations frustrating rather than difficult - spoiler: typical Egosoft convoy escort AI problems.

On my first runthrough spoiler: flying a Boreas and taking an active part in the defence - too much friendly fire hit the Asgard, and it turned red.

Second attempt: spoiler: flying a Kestrel, keeping well clear of the Asgard, and allocating Boreas and Cerebus to close escort duties - the Asgard milled around aimlessly for a while, then eventually just gave up and flew home again. Unfortunately the old Terran Conflict trick of staying at home while the convoy proceeds on its way, thus triggering no attacks as you aren't in-sector, doesn't work - the Asgard won't start until you are in the destination sector, so far as I can tell.

Finally on the third attempt spoiler: I flew the Cerberus, and headed straight for the nav beacon, at a comfortable speed, keeping about 10 km ahead of the Asgard (so it was out of range). The Boreas started out in company with me, then was allocated to close escort (not really necessary, as both Asgard and escort leader are invincible). After a couple of rounds of attackers, the Asgard was nearing the target when it changed its mind and started home again, at about the same time as a third round of attackers arrived, and the instructions changed form "Protect Asgard" to "Kill Xenon". When they were all dead, the stage was marked as complete.

As in your game, the station wasn't dropped by the Asgard at this point.

spoiler: Regarding "On the Offensive" - agree your assessment, 404 was easy, 304 was hard - probably justified its "very hard" tag, as I was flying a Boreas, and no other allied ships survived (except the obvious invincible, and he retreated to Extended Rift). Loot was good - claimed a J and a Q, with various lesser ships to pick up later.

Finish seemed rather premature - there were still 3 Is, a K, a J and various lesser ships - calling these "stragglers" doesn't seem appropriate, so perhaps the completion message needs rewording to something like "Thank you for your contribution, we should be able to handle what is left, report to Cdr Jackson etc..."

spoiler: Winters Discontent was frustrating and difficult for me - fortunately it was well-enough written that I struggled through all the problems eventually.
      1) Pirate base being hostile attracted most of my gunfire, meaning it was difficult to clear out the Xenon. They often seemed impervious to the effects of gunfire, so I suspect they were hiding behind the invincibility cloak of the Pirate Base. Eventually fiddling with the turret settings of my Boreas (changing most of them to anti-fighter, even the ones with capital ship weapons) killed them off. Opposition was similar to yours, a couple of Qs plus variety of smaller ships.
Despite the blood-curdling threats whenever gunfire hit the Pirate Base, there was no apparent damage to my relatively high standing with the Pirates.
      2) The troop carriers were followed by a substantial Xenon fleet - 3 Ks, a J, a couple of Qs, and a cloud of smaller ships. This put rather a lot of dents in my Boreas as I tried to keep them away from the transports (having the turrets still on the previous weird settings probably didn't help), so I jumped out, trusting to the invincibility cloaks to keep the troop carriers alive. Whilst the Boreas had the dents knocked out, I wandered off elsewhere doing other things.
      3) About an hour later the ship was fixed again, I jumped back in to discover that the troop carriers, and most of the Xenon fleet, had beat a strategic retreat southwards. As I recall, the remaining opposition in the sector was a J and smaller ships. I set about clearing them out first intending to move southwards next to clear a path to the troop ships. Suddenly the troop ships jumped into the sector, immediately arrived at the Pirate base and rapidly captured/destroyed it (not surprising given its flimsy shielding).
      4) This led to another slow and tedious "clear the sector" episode - the J was intact, and there was a steady heavy stream of reinforcement fighters from the Gate to the J. I could probably have avoided it by just flying my Kestrel into range of the remaining troop transport, but I persevered with repeated runs through the fighter stream, jumping back to the gate as damage to the Boreas mounted. Eventually the stream thinned to the point where I could fly all the way to the J, kill it, and thus end the stream of reinforcements, then approach the troop transport.
During the earlier part of the battle I had acquired a P, and had jumped it out. I now gathered up half a dozen mixed fighters littering the sector (L and LX) with minor interruptions from a couple of live Xenon fighters which came visiting. I repaired and sold the loot for a reasonable reward - probably about 15 million credits.

On my second playthrough now and its going ok, there was one differnce i'll update once its finished.

Btw Loriel, if you are alone in Xenon sectors bring and use loads of hornets(very effective) and fighter drones, use the fighter drones to reduce damage from fighter swarms with the "protect ship" command.

More flying around in a m5 and you will be following Tama Bo and taking the lead in later parts, first head to 404 where Tama will decide to follow a P and its escorts. So hang back and just tail them, they head to Serroco Prime where there is some comedy gold from Tama, after this its off to the xenon core sectors.
In x203 you will investigate the station and it will require you to stay close to the station for around 2minutes until the scan is complete.
Then its just a dash for Extended Rift.
WEll, I'm exactly there, u forgot to add that Tamba's ship got destroyed so it's necessary to pick him up and here is my problem: I pick him up with CLS on board, get the message saying thanks and that we should leave but then the mission doesnt set a new target, it still says "Rescue Tamba Bo" even though he's sitting in my cargobay, now I'm stuck I guess and won't be able to go on with the mission. Tried already 4 different savegames from when I was scanning the station and a bit after but all the time the same result - as soon as i pick him up, no new target selected!

How did you pick him up? If it's not a "standard" way, the Plot may not recognise it.

I first picked up the Cargo Lifesupport System with my M5 Jaguar and after Tamba but as I said, the objective doesnt change. However, I just tried to dock at the Boron Trading Station in Extended Rift even though the mission told me to rescue Tamba who was sitting in my cargobay and it worked, as soon as I docked the mission was completed and the plot finally goes on!
