In other words, how unfriendly is this mod to complete newbies?
It's probably a good idea to wait a few days for the forthcoming 2.1 Patch for XTC - it should fix a number of annoying problems.

There are several different factors in the decision whether to start immediately in XTC or to spend a while getting your bearings in X3:TC first:
      • XTC has a much more comprehensive system for varying the difficulty - whereas X3:TC only really varies the start position, XTC varies ongoing difficulties of many other factors as well (which is perhaps an argument in favour of playing XTC immediately on an easy setting, then restarting on a harder setting after a while).
      • It's easy to get "behind the curve" in XTC - around day 6 you will start to encounter serious Xenon and Kha'ak invasions, and if you haven't acquired reasonable firepower by that point you will struggle, even on easy settings.
      • Most of the techniques from X3:TC will transfer easily to XTC - but some won't (and the map is completely different).
      • XTC is somewhat more combat-oriented, whilst building/trading is more significant in X3:TC, so if you prefer combat it's perhaps a good idea to dive into XTC fairly quickly, whilst X3:TC will be more rewarding if you are aiming to set up a business empire, so probably worth spending more time there first, getting used to the system.

Another option would be to try them both, switching between to compare them. That would require two separate installations, and some care to make sure you use the right savegames with each installation.

You may or may not encounter khaak invasions, they are limited to a certain area where they can spread (this differs from game to game), so if you have trouble with the khaak you can fly to quieter regions of space and deal with them later. Xenon don't conquer race sectors. If things get hairy and you have a station in that sector, remember that you can repack it into your TL and rebuild it somewhere else. It just requires alittle bit logistics.

      XTC is somewhat more combat-oriented
combat oriented players complained about lack of combat more then once, so i'd say it's fairly balanced

This looks like the right place to ask this....

Is it normal for a station to not update its ware amount after i just sold that specific ware to it?

For example a sold a meson blaster to an equipment station, but it still shows its stock is 0/2.

Yes - equipment docks remain "half full".
If you prefer different behaviour see "Ware Consumption" in the Artificial Life Options - about page 46 in the Manual.

      Hi,
I have visited all of Sams Redstones Sectors #1 and #2 Universe Expansion Phase Map
and would now like to tackle the Plots. I need to now "...skip the expansion".

I followed this from the FAQ's

"Q35. I hate the expansion system, how do i skip the expansion?
A.You can force the expansion via cheat. Open the ingame script editor, search for
"plugin.XTC.Lib.SetExpansionStage", highlight it and hit "r" once, choose "null",
and when asked for the stage - enter 8
When you do it you should be in a sector that is fully connected, just to be sure."

However when I enter 8 - this appears to be no way to SAVE.

      What steps am I missing?

Did you hit "r" then choose "null"?

      Hi Dazzard & KJ,
Thanks, however there is still no way to "SAVE the entered number 8"

When I hit"r" then choose "null" it gives:
      Execute Command Script
      Execute Command Script
      plugin.XTC.Lib.SetExpansionStage
      Argument 1:stage,Var/Number,'stage'

      Enter gives:
      Script Input stage
      null
      <number>

      Select <number> and Enter gives:
Input Number and I type in 8 in the provided box

At this point how do I "SAVE" the number 8 ?

I tried Enter; closing the open Number Box; using the Back Arrows - all to no avail.

      SOLVED

It must have just worked OK.
I did not try hard enough at first.
I decided to just follow through Gates that I had
previously been through and this time I found Gates
      were now open.
