      Arrow [Ship Review] Paranid Olympos

      Hi ppl,

Welcome to another of my ship reviews.

      Enjoy!

      Paranid Olympos
      “Missile Battleship/Heavy Carrier”

      Overview
With Kha’ak and Xenon attacks on the increase and a deadly unknown faction emerging in the universe, the Terrans collaborated with the Argon government to develop the Leviathan battleship. The Paranid, seeing this move as a threat to their sector security, independently developed the Olympos battleship in an attempt to tip the balance of power back in their favour.

The Olympos’s weapons system is loosely based on that designed for the Poseidon and offers an 8 HMG mounting option on the forward turret weapons array as a result. However, unlike the Poseidon the Olympos also supports the normal heavy capital ship weapons and lots of them. With capacity for 32 G-PPC, 28 B-PPC and 10 B-FAA (or 60 G-PSG and 10 B-PSG), the Olympos is a potent vessel that deserves respect. Swapping out the 8 G-PPC forward turret for 8 HMG makes the Olympos a deadly vessel that should be feared.

Similar to the Argon Leviathan, the Paranid Olympos can dock 30 ships of M6/M7 size or smaller internally; however, the Olympos does lack the inherent ship construction and repair facilities that are part of the Argon Leviathan’s design. This fact does not make the Leviathan any less capable as a carrier asset (especially if the Olympos is fitted with a machine shop).

Using technology which is thought to have been based on technology acquired from the Sohnen, the Olympos can jump point-to-point in a similar fashion to the Argon Leviathan. This means that the Olympos can use its impressive weapons array to perform surgical strikes behind enemy lines or jump directly into weapons range of a threat and deal with it before it can do any damage.

The Terran government has shown some concern that the development of the Olympos is evidence of a technological race could lead to all out war between the Paranid and Argon, however a representative of the Argon government gave a statement congratulating their Paranid neighbours on their independent success with point to point jump technology and stated that “Argon Prime is only interested in the safety of all races and look forward to joint military exercises with the Paranid to that end”. The Paranid government has yet to respond to the apparent invitation, though sources indicate that some Paranid feel insulted by the representative’s comments.

NOTE: HMG Weapons are only user mountable from the HUD. When HMG weapons are transferred to an HMG capable ship then the weapons will auto mount if HMG mounting points are available.

      Maiden Voyage
The GTI Ares (named after the Greek God of War) was equipped with a full complement of 8 HMG, 28 B-PPC, 24 G-PPC, 10 B-FAA and an Antimatter missile production facility.

      To be continued…

The Olympos is my ship of choice. Have added a pandora engine tune to it and it now goes 79 mps. Much more respectable speed. It is very capable in a fight and great as a mobile base. Used it to take on the new Khaak T2 and blew it and its escort of capital ships straight to hell.

      Great review.

      Cheers

      Andy F

      weapons layout was as follows
      2 x missle guns front
      6 x GPPC front
      14 x BPPC right
      14 x BPBE left
      12 BFAA back
      12 GPPC top
      12 x AFAA down
the left had BPBE makes mincemeat out of fighters tho when fighting cap ships i have to position my ship carefully to get maximum on target weapons coverage.

What load out did you use against the Kha'ak out of curiosity?

I tried out the Olympos in the UES east of Kao's Mistake,
Biggest available PSGs in all guns, except one longest range PPC or bHEPT in each turret,
turrets on attack-enemies, ie you get that 'PSGs fire much earlier' effect.
The external ship view looks like a moving blue nebula.

No Khaak capital ship (or 2 or 3) stands a chance.
      ......
Mind you in the last picture taking on 7 at once may have been more successful with PPCs all round

It's a different matter in crowded Xenon sectors though, even with PPC's all round,
I can't get more than 2 or 3 K or J down before I blow, going to go in carrying 30 Hyperions next time.
Mind you that'll spend my whole current cash wad - 1.2 billion, but you've got to spend it on somat.

One problem though, I find the Olympos is so big that attacking pirate M3s (particularly the Elite)
mostly just keep turning away to avoid collision & never get within PSG/Flak damage range.

lol, same as Tyrell...how can you have so many PSGs going at once? Haha you must have some kind of PC to match your ship

Great review btw Roger They're one of the things that sets the Xtended community apart. We should make a pdf handbook with all of them in and release it with the next patch (remembers Frontier First Encounters manual with shipyard dealer book lol).

Well I have Word 2003 and can convert them to/from PDF form (I currently have a document on the go with all my reviews so far - I can provide this if someone else wants to do it)

Tried the G-PSGs on mine with CIGs as the long range weapon (did not bother setting my forward guns to PSG though for the test). Nice effect but the collision detection is definitly a problem if you are trying to kill only a couple of fighters, great for those times when you get swamped with fighters but after a while they stay out of range.
