      Default [EQUIPMENT]Distress call software upgrade

Evening Thanks for opening this place up for me, I think I can be referred to an an extended instant fan!

Sorry if ths is already out there - I couldn't find it and it seems like something that would be very realistic / handy.

Purchasable upgrade, maybe the same price as a jump drive
Can be installed on any transport type ship
If the ship has a pilot (I'm thinking it is aimed at the UT here...) the pilot can send a distress call to any of your jumpdrive equipped ships in a certain sector radius, the ships will jump in to the nearest gate (or closer if they have the correct drive) and rush to save your transports ass.

Maybe have more expensive models that can send the distress call over more sectors.

Is this a good idea or simply idle frivolity?

I'm sure there is a script out there like it, but no it's not a frivolity. Might even be a possible addition in the future.

Sounds to me like a UT tailored version of LV's RF scripts.
And with LV on the moon, there's no chance of this making it in there anytime soon. I like the id, but -despite not being a scripter- I don't think it's very easy to implement...in fact I suspect it to be a lot of work.

You could probably do this with with LV's Player Response Fleets anyway.
his jump to protect is in 2 parts, one with race response fleets and one with player. As I recall, you have to do something specific (might be a naming thing, been a long time since I used it) but it allows you to assign certain ships with jump drives to your response fleet, and they then jump in response to any of your ships that are attacked.

Okay. Reading it, you assign Nav Sats to the area you want your fleet to be able to protect, and then execute a custom command on any ship you want to be part of the fleet. It doesn't jump to protect ships under attack, it jumps to attack any enemy ship found in your nav sat network. Ships that suffer serious damage automatically dock at the nearest shipyard and hail you, ships that run out of fuel dock at SPP's and hail you.

I suspect that if you combined this with the nav-sat limited UT script floating around, you could effectively manage a large UT fleet with a relatively small Patrol fleet.

I think you are right , and most important is that you can specify the ships to respond the command , they will resuply themselves , and you can use it to summon help to your position. Combine this with Cycrows Jump Drive and they will be near you in 15 seconds.
