Ah, haven't been active for some time and been trying to improve my modeling skills inbetween work. I hope to stick around this time without disappearing again :p

First new attempt at a spaceship thingy...

Wow, thats really impressive, well done! It looks like it should fire a massive laser or maybe be a gate builder?

Mini-update, incomplete part of the turrets.

What polycount are you aiming for and where are you now?

I like the new gun barrel, if possible, you should make parts of it rotate. The giant engine cylinder of death! But that is very impressive, you should see if the XTC team needs any more skilled modellers

Hm, the polycount is 165k at the moment, though I am cheating by using instanced objects.

Been fixing some of the internal parts, the 4 four main reactors are exposed in this shot, usually they are hidden inside the ribcage structure, still have to add some lighteffects to glasstube thingies at some point...

Most of the time I simply update this picture here when making minor changes to the model http://bitterbaum.com/GB.JPG
Updated part of the ribcage structure and some changes to its front.

Should I stick with the new front bow design or rather scratch it? Not really sure myself...

what about makin it kinda look like the blossom of a rose, you get it? with different layers of scale like things and in the middle the engine?! kinda like a mix of armor and heat radiators

but it looks very nice already

by the way, my i ask you something?

im a huge fan of galaxy rangers. and i would like to have their ship in X3 TC. it doesnt look very difficult but never the less im absolutly unable to do it myself.. so if you have some sparetime, could you check it out and maybe just consider it?

Thats actually a good idea, haven been thinking about scrapping the old drive part, maybe some 4-5 long vines/tentacles extending from that rose structure, slightly twisted.

Ah, galaxy rangers... always used to watch those on german tv. Though it's a bit hard to find some blue prints or just simple images of the ships used in that show, but wouldn't mind giving it a try.

Going to cover the whole ship in some kind of bio-armor, though still not really happy with my execution of it so far...

the front part looks organic while the rest seems more technic stile. IMHO this does not fit.

Great details O0

Hiya Peeps,

I'm going to agree with 2B here...

Hate to say it, but that frontal armor looks like a giant pair of lips where it surrounds the muzzle of the main gun (:o), however & this is just a suggestion mind you, if you were to make the armor look slightly more angular/hard edged rather then the smooth/flowing effect it currently has, that might offset the "pure organic" look of it somewhat........

I hope you understand what I meant by my comment above as I'm no modeler by any stretch of the imagination..... ;)

Keep up the fantastic work, I look forward to seeing more of your work on it...... O0

Cheers & Thranx

just a short question, whats front and whats back again?! where is the planet busting killer canon and where is the engine?

Front would be the red orb in the right half of the picture, remodeling most of its parts at the moment. The other part I completely removed from the model and building a replacement now.

Hiya Peeps,

Heteran, I can answer that one for ya.... ;)

In the 1st pic, (plating_test2) the engine is on the right hand side of the picture [the bit with the red dots/blobs sticking out of them] & in the 2nd pic (plating_test) the engine is now on the left hand side of the pic with the main gun being that wedding ring looking structure floating in mid air....

As Bitterbaum has stated, this is still very much a work-in-progress & as such subject to change with very little notice.......

*EDIT* Damn, beaten by the man himself... ;)

@ Bitterbaum......
Looks interesting so far, mate...

After much thought (all of 30sec's worth after rereading my previous comment..), I realised I wasn't all that clear about what I meant with the armour, I was thinking more along the lines of the appearance of it being pieces of armour on the ship.. IE: a few discrete lines marking out the positions of the various pieces of armour plating...

But seeing as your ship design, you can make it look however you want to make it look... ;)

I do like the latest look you've given the armour on the rear of the main body!! O0

Just a small suggestion if I may, add a couple of discrete/thin lines to a few places on the armour to give it the appearance of being a few sections of armour "bolted together" (for lack of a better description) to make one big massive slab of armour covering the ship.... (Grrrr... still not explaining my thoughts very well here, am I? :o)
I'm trying to think of what I can use as an comparison for you to understand what I'm referring to with the armour.... (I can think of quite a few different things to use but none of seem quite right for what I'm on about.....)

Cheers & Thranx

*EDIT* Ahh, the expression I was looking for is "modular".. IE: It's made up of different modular pieces to make the whole section..... THAT is what I was trying to explain about up above.... Isn't it amazing what the brain throws up at the last moment? I was just about to shut the computer down & go to bed, when it dawned on me the term I was looking for was "modular"....;):rofl:

Hm, actually planned to cut that mangled cylinder used for that part apart and let the smaller parts overlap each other like scales. I greatly appriciate the feedback, though creating those plating patterns on models is always giving me a headache, always try to wiggle around it.

Heteran Leticron

oh ok, so i got it all wrong?!

so can you turn the pic 90 to show the engine then?
im kind of designing engines, so thats all i care about :D

Hiya mate,
That could work.... Would like quite good too, now that I think about it.... ;)

Oh & I edited my post above, if you want to have another look at it...

Cheers & Thranx

PS The reason for my trouble explaining my concept above is: I'm 1/2 asleep atm, my brain's shutting down but my body is still rearing to go....

Decided to go with a more... spiky look for the drive, still extremely early stage of that part, though you can get a rough idea of it when you look at the 4 polyons mounted on the main body.

http://bitterbaum.com/bridge_temp.jpg

Incomplete bridge section of the ship, still have to anchor the whole thing.
