View Full Version : Music Outskirts, Duality and Agitation - first attempts at making music

Hiya guys.
First off, a notice, the following tracks are not related to XTC, so if you don't like them, don't worry, they aren't for the mod or by the musicmaker.

Okay, that's cleared, now on to the real deal. These three tracks are mostly rock with an instrumental touch, somewhat similar to X3's / DarkStar One's combat tracks, with slight inspiration from BSG as well.

I've been doing this for less than a week, and I suppose feedback would be best received while there is still time, so feel free to comment on everything you like and everything you don't like. Not to say that these are just random sounds, no, I at least think they are good enough for public viewing :) Alright, enough rambling, I do hope you will enjoy these.

(All tracks have been made with FL studio 9 producer edition)

*As usual, you may use the tracks for non-commercial purposes, just remember to credit the author ;)

Hey There Eli,
hmm a new Music Mage in the works I feel ;)

I'm sure Stemmy will have more constructive comments, but here's mine for what they're worth...

I like Agitation a lot... for me it needs a stronger bass line to give it some gravitas, but then that's the aging rocker in me talking

Not sure about Duality, a bit too twee for my taste and Outskirts a bit too electro.

Damn good work for only a weeks play.

Nice work Eli

Kevso :)

Pretty tracks, and I especially like the Duality one. However, in my opinion especially this one doesn't fit into what can be defined as combat music. The other two fit better in this catergory, because the e-guitar gives them some chasing and pressuring elments, but I'm still not sure about them, also because they are almost the same tracks, arn't they?

They certainly aren't meant to be combat tracks themselves, oh no :) I just took some elements of those as inspiration (I see how the wording may give that impression though)

As we already spoke directly in Skype, I'll limit my posting here just saying this: keep on experimenting, use the most different sounds you can for exploring different possibilities, try and don't fear trying...

Here is a very good starting point for free instrument and effects plugins http://www.audiomastermind.com/ (under free VST plugins) - not really close to the overpriced pro stuff, but a great start anyway.

And once again, congrats for your achievements in such a short time!!! ;)
