Evening all,

To try and help reduce the amount of questions while we are doing the final polishing to the mod, we have decided to release the manual early so you can all see what is going to be available for use. ^^

Just to warn those who want everything to be fresh when they start the mod, reading the manual will give you some huge spoilers. So don't complain about it as you have been warned. ^^

So without further ado, here is the XTC V1.0 Manual.

Update:
Here is the updated Manual for XTC V2.1

Good, something to do in those free time December days. But it wont be enough to keep me busy for long :P

Ill be back when I finish the translation of the manual.

Nice thanks, but now I have a question. The bailing description was a bit vague, does it also include NPC vs NPC bailing, as I like playing the whole salvage game thing. Are there plans to add a salvage vessel (if there isn't one already)? I had hopes (and still do) that there is NPC salvagers and NPC vs NPC bailing or at some point an add on.

The universe is no longer player-centric. All ships have a chance to bail no matter who is attacking them. Whether that's the player attacking NPC ships, NPC ships attacking NPC ships or NPC ships attacking Player owned ships, they all have exactly the same chance to bail.

Thanks for the quick reply. I like where you guys went with it and I already have a clean install waiting for it. :) TTYL, let me know if you need anything.

Don't expect space to be littered with derelicts though, due to the much higher number of ships having the ability to bail, we have dropped the chances of them doing so, so it doesn't a) clog the universe up with abandoned ships, and b) turn into a cash cow.

To answer the other part of your orig question which I forgot to address, there currently aren't any NPC salvagers as we had to drop scripting them due to time constraints and more important things that needed scripting attention. Currently the bailed ships are destroyed after a certain time (longish timer). Full NPC salvagers are still planned for a future release though. ;)

Thanks again for the reply.

But, now you gone and done it, I was happy and content waiting for the release to come along, no matter how long that was. Now that I've seen the manual... Well, it's like buying an ice cream cone in front of your kids and eating it all while they watch. :P So, evil!

A quick question with regards to scripts and vanilla... In the manual it states having a vanilla install of X3:TC patched to the current compatible patch for XTC (Which I'm assuming will be 3.0) What it doesn't note is with regards to the Bonus Pack scripts (I'm aware that atm most scripts won't/may not work with XTC, but does that include the BP scripts?) There's a mention of turbo boost in the manual, is that a replacement of the BP one or not and will the BP version conflict? IE how will the Bonus Pack scripts work with XTC?

The BP-scripts are no stock ES-scripts, they are a set of third-party-scripts. As that there is no guaranted compatibility to XTC. They are completly untested. You'll have to find out yourself.
Btw... there is no use in installing the BP, when the only advantage is having no "modified" (XTC is modified anyway). The scripts in it are almost all already updated by the authors.

bugger, my vanilla install has the BP in it so I can't just copy the directory. (which was what I was planning to do) I care less about **modified** than the CLS/CAG scripts. :o

I'll have to re-name, re-install, re-name then re-rename to get a vanilla version away and back with a XTC version aswell :p

What version is your X3:TC? The BP installer only installs scripts and a language file in the t-directory. So maybe you can deinstall it.

Bit of an odd and idle question about the format of the manual... I tried to print it on my trusty HP Deskjet printer, and (I kid you not) two brand new ink cartridges get to approximately 70-80 pages in before banding starts to appear and the catridges run dry. Now, I do appreciate that many people will be content to read this great guide "on line"... but I thought it would be nice to have a printed copy to have in front of me whilst playing...

Just looking at the current edition, you've put an immense amount of effort into this release and you're not going to want to change it now... but I wonder if you would consider releasing a "printer friendly" edition with any future versions of the guide please? [ Definition of printer friendly would be black text on white paper, maybe with a border, with neat framed screen scrapes where you want them [but preferably not too many nor too large].

And I wonder why people call me pedantic!

Sheesh...

A text only version of 2.0's manual is a possibility once the main mod has been released.

how mutch difference is there between the 1.0 and 2.0 manual Aragon ?

if a lot different any chance of us getting the manual put up slightly before the release so we can have a read and digest the work of art that it will be before the game takes up all our time.

Not a huge difference. Mostly adding new instructions for the new scripts etc.

Just for the sake of completeness, there seems to be a slightly updated version of the original 1.x manual available from the same site here (http://downloads.thexuniverse.us/XTC_Release/Manual/XTC_Manual_1_0_4.7z).

I don't know how significant the changes are.

I am unable to access the updated manual. I'm just redirected to a new tab.
Any suggestions?

On the first page use the second link, it should open a new tab that will contain the pdf. It may take a whyile to load if you have a slow connection or are not able to view .pdf files in browser, if you can't try right click and select save as to download the file.
