View Full Version : [TOOL] X3 XLS Name Generator

07-05-2007, 04:45 PM
While the X3 scripts automatically generate names, sometimes it's difficult to come up with unique names for the BBS entries, etc that fall within the natural bounds of the race naming rules. This is also true when creating fiction.

To help I've created an XLS that has all the current names from 44001.xml in it, and when run will create random names based on the info it has stored.

At the moment it's only a basic tool, but give it a try and send me feedback on what you think:

PLEASE NOTE: You will need Analysis ToolPak installed in Microsoft Excel for the XLS to work

* Enter the race you want (full race name) into the Race box.
* Then enter the sex in the male/female box - Note this is only relevant for Argon names.
* Then select the "Generate Name" option.
* Write down your new name.

There will be other updates.

Version 1.0 - Initial Release.

Version 1.1 - Race selection added, format refined to make it clearer.

Version 1.11 - Corrects slight mistake with Split names, now has stored race names for easier selection.

Version 1.2 - Improved Teladi name generation (now has up to 3 names) and added more numerals to them.

hey bro that is really cool good job on making it. I like the way it works easy to use. 8)

We've had it a s a dev tool for a while. 8)

Been pretty useful for coming up with names. I usually just click through a couple of times until one comes up that I feel suits the person in the plot/mission that I'm writing.

Far easier than sitting there trying to think of a name for 15 min! lol

Glad you like Darkson. It was originally for the Xtended team, but since we have such a budding community I thought it might be worth letting all you guys have a play.

I always write in MS Word, it checks my spelling as I go along. Once done I then copy it to the forum.

Well, since their eye thingy is red, it would make more sense if they couldn't see red. Wierd illogical beasts.....

It would be cool to see M1 and M2 with names like the "Argon One" and the "Redoubt" from the final mission ......
