Default How do you think TC will be reviewed?

I gotta say, i read the review of X2 The Threat before I bought it and all of them said "diamond in the rough.", "Almost, but not quite" "Would be good, but theres a steep learning curve"

The same went for X3: The Reunion...but keep in mind these reviews were all for 1.0 version. One of the buggiest games of all time...considering that you literally could not complete the game because of a CTD bug in the mission scripts

The games still managed to be in the "Good" side, getting 6-7/10 on many review sites.

But now, X3: TC is being built on the virtually bugless 2.5 version of X3...not to mention they are adding everything that made XTM good, PLUS they are improving the learning curve, PLUS they are adding their own touches that scripters just couldn't manage without an SDK...

since they are virtually fixing every problem the reviewers complained about and adding dozens of features, shouldn't this game potentially get almost perfect reviews across the board?

I think that unless there is a tutorial, there will still be problem with the learning curve. That said, I think it will get very good reviews, it got good reviews from the German site Gamestar, but there were problems apparently specifically with the control scheme for this one reviewer, but it still got a 73.

id like it not to have a tutorial, ive found that every single game that i initially had a hard time getting into have been my favorite games of all time

Ultima Underworld, X3, Morrowind, Fallout 2, Deus Ex, System Shock 2, they all throw you into a world completely directionless...but they are the most immersive as well

either way, since one of the selling points of TC is the improved interface, lets see not only good reviews, but excellent reviews

Well, the UI change is a mater-of-opinion thing, some people will still find anything with more that 3 menus cumbersome and "unintuitive".
Also, the steep learning curve will be there.
Another thing is the piloting scheme, which will not cater to every reviewer.

I still think this game will get an average of 7.2 out of 10.. (Let's see if IGN/Gamespot/Gamespy even review this game)

The first German Previews are bad only about 60% but you have to say that those testers are stupid idiots they wonder why their ship cant fight very good with the autopilot against a M5 with 10xSETA ...
or to move your ship in 3rd person view in C&C style to draw frames at the window and comand those ships with one cklick ...

      -Menues "are one way streets"
example: there is a "Enzyclopedia" and whe you click at Terran -> ships -> M3 -> thor youll see all infromation about it ... weapons -> A-B PAC so now you cant click at "PAC" to get information about the PACs ... so you have to close this window and open another to find information about "PAC" ...

      -Nothing really new

... ehrm new story, sectors, sounds, music, ships, ship classes, ship types, ship modells, enhanced modells, stations, races, missions, sidemissions, User Interface, Menues, wares, weapons, shields .... so thats nothing new or ?!

      Hi Guys,
as the excerpt kindly translated by Jey16 shows, the reviews will be coloured by the reviewers own preferences and expectations and will never closely reflect the community's views, unless the reviewer happens to actaully play the game.

I personally prefer to take the reviews by others as a guide, an individual viewpoint and then make up my own mind about what i do and don't like.

However i agree entirely with Jey16 when he disagrees with the "Nothing Really New" snipe.

Games of any genre can only include a number of elements be it ships, wares, weapons, shields, characters etc, and if a game already contains all of them then it could be argued that there is nothing new, however if the content is increased or amended and the use of those elements are changed or improved how can there be nothing new? Apart from the fact there appears to be a new interface

Personally i'm prepared to wait and make up my own mind.

Just my two cents for what its worth.

      Kevso

agreed competely jey16...reviewers should review a game based on the preconceived notion that the developers weren't trying to create a game with the features that they claim are missing...if they wanted it that way they, they wouldve designed it that way...they should go play SoaSE or Homeworld

besides keeping the game away from a point and click adds to realism...admirals cannot command an entire real fleet with the click of a button either

No, but it would be nice to have the ability to move fleets with that ease. I wouldn't mind having the ability to create fleets SoaSE style and move them quickly... same with squadrons.
