      Angry Autopilot

      Is it just me, or is the autopilot about the same as a retarded hamster in a square hamster wheel? I've said that before, in the X3R thread - but it's even worse this time!

      In Reunion...
      • Boron M8s didnt randomly plow into my complexes.
      • My ship didn't slam into the jumpgates.
      • My Mammoth didn't slam into every asteroid in a 25km radius.
      • And finally...My M4 never ever slammed into the side of the ship it's supposed to follow.


      I thought they improved the autopilot!

      Hiya Airstrikeinanov,
      all very odd the AI seems to me to be much improved So far the auto pillock hasn't ploughed me into anything or anything else into me for that matter. The pathfinder AI is still a bit weak, but generally i've found the AI to be an improvement.

      What does everyone else think?

      A couple of things I've noticed:

      Frequently heads off into odd directions or decides to dodge something which I can even see (and I don't mean the enormous Terran stations).

      Ships in formation don't seem to be able to find/stay in their positions properly, so they're constantly adjusting.

      The only pathing problem I've seen is enemy M8's flying into stations, if you scan them you'll see they have no lasers/missiles/equipment except maybe a jumpdrive and seta.

      The combat part of the AI has improved - but the pathfinding AI, not so much.

      i had a titan parked it in front of a gate then an M8 came through it and actully tried to avoid it *



      *the same ship died tragiclly in the maneuver by ploughing into one of those tubes that stick out the sides of gates

      Hi,

      You know, I'd actually say that the autopilot was definately 'safer' if not that much smarter. It still avoids things plain wrong sometimes, i.e. it's near the left of an asteroid it wants to get around so it flies right...3x as far..weird. Still, it's not crashed any of my ships into anything bar one exception.

      Small, fast M5s with maybe not quite as many rudder tunings as they'd like often crash into stations. Most noticably when doing 'Defend the Station' missions. My own Rapier actually rammed its self into an Argon Trading station after I'd sent the group to dock to keep them 'safe' from the heavy combat I was involved in *sigh*

      Still, generally not too bad and works just fine while under SETA 10x.

      One GOOD thing I've noticed if you fly a large ship...I've piloted my TL through gates under autopilot...the ships waits at the gate until it's clear then goes through. It's still managed to flatten trade ships on the other side on several occasions, however if you're on autopilot you don't appear to get any race rank drop anymore!! If I fly through manually & do the same I take a race rank hit.
