      Default 1.4 what do YOU think?

      1.4 promises much, improved gameplay, lots more bugs and issues fixed, but how do YOU find it? has it improved YOUR graphics? How do you like the changes?

      1.4 promises a lot, but fixes nothing in my experience.

      -The graphics may have been improved lagwise, don't know, never had a problem with that since 1.21.
      -Corporation fixes do work, as they managed to spot the missing text IDs in the t-files *YAY* We had similar problems when translating XTM 0.75 to german language... and we (3 normal users, none of us is working in an IT job nor do we have experience in programming) fixed it within 4 days.
      -Well, Mammoths during transport Missions? Never saw that? To be honest, i can't remember that someone complained about Mammoth? Even on the ES board? Must be a really serious bug.
      -Hub and Freight Drone exploit fixed... another *YAY* Never used that. My Hub isn't connected to terran sectors, because the last time i visited them was when i completed the terran plot. That was back in Octobre. Freight drones... hmm, no, never used them. Flamethrowers are plenty in supply on pirate fabs and destroyed or capped Yaki caps.
      -Rest isn't an issue and never was to me

      Now for the new features
      -Improved turrets... nice try and rep to Gazz. Must be hard to swallow for ES.
      -OTAS Sirokos Marine capacity increased... i ask myself, why tweaking a NON EXISTANT ship? Did anybody read about someone who really owned one without CHEATING? The OTAS plot does not offer a Siroko as a reward.
      -Taxi missions fixed. Last time i did this was in a Kestrel to max out my terran rep back in octobre. That was before i realised that i won't ever be able to jump into terran sectors
      -finished matines are listed at the outpost... i don't train marines anymore... see below
      -Smarter Marine selection during boarding.... i don't cap anymore... see below
      -Improved carrier support during defend station missions, what the...? I suspect tht 99% of all those people posing with their 60 fighters on their carrier never used them. Carriers are useless in TC, and fighter escorts are just a workaround for a bad mission design.

      Now for the undocumented "improvements":
      -Convoi missions for companies didn't change. You'll always get 4-5 M5 every 30-50 seconds beating the %&$ out of the targets of your mission
      -Exotic rockets are still asked for by company missions
      -Marine behaviour during capping has been degraded. In 40% of all cases they jump out of your M6 with no voice message and sit still in space -> 0 speed
      -Marines still ram their heads into capships, if you really managed to get them to work
      -Capships will now make a short sprint if you sit in their blind spot keeping their shields low and waiting half an hour (not joking) for you marines, which jumped out in a distance of 20 cm to the cap and spawning therefor 3 km far away. Because the caps now sprint away from time to time, your marines will never reach them. I have tested that with several TLs and M2.
      -Rewards for patrol missions have been seriously reduced (doesn't care about until i reached 2 billion credits early in November by doing the Hubmission with Lucikes CAGs) Never did a patrol since november, boring as hell.

      Whats the conclusion?
      Capping difficult targets with a M6 was the last bit of fun left to me in TC. It's over for me, you can only cap other M6 or TMs without boarding pods in an acceptable time period.
      Company missions are simple grinds for reputation by repeating dull missions, which are offered at every other station. They are absolutely pointless to me. I hate these follow X to Y missions, they don't deserve the label THINK!, they should be renamed to "Get bored to hell while this damned harrier rams himself to death while on SETA" I did so many assassintion missions that i can't see any entertainment in these missions anymore. And guess what? you have to do this for every single company, every time, again and again. If i like to play grinds i would like to play World of Warcraft.
      They improved nothing. They just hardcoded their marine feature and possibly the terran gates. I'm a fan of X-series games, but i'm not a believer. This patch was made to force the player to play TC in a certain intended style with no exceptions. There is no flexibility and just excusions all around.

      I did install the patch, tested it for several hours and closed the game. I even thought about deinstalling it, it's x-mas and i don't have to take this. I'm now waiting for XT for X3:TC and return to XTM for reunion. TC isn't worth the time with this behaviour (of the game itself and the patch politic). I flew every ship in TC, cheated in or not...
      It feels much better to fly a Tyr in the old XTM

      a fairly damning report! thank you Galder, for your honest words, and the reasons behind them...

      I've not done that much in 1.4 yet, however, on my system (not a very quick one), it does improve the frame rate some...

      Well I can't really say anything Galder hasn't said... He punched 1.4 square in the nuts, fast as lightning.... It was an improvement, but the X verse still lives up to it's rep of having to be debugged and modded to hell, with egosoft doing retarded things every now and then.

      I particularly hate the lag launcher (as I call it), we really don't need detailed explosions for thousands of grenades per second! Frickin A!

      And of course loosing hours of progress to crashes and freezes for ZERO reason is also annoying -_-


      I'm still flying around in a Sabre and TC is pissing me off o.0
      (God**** Xenon love PBEs, Kha'ak use kyons, and everyone and their mother has a hundred swarm prostitutes!)


      An M6 is easier to take down than 2 Ls -_-

      Hi Guys,
      i've only just installed 1.4 and have yet to play so thanks for the heads up on what to look out for.

      Just quickly "scanning" Galder's post... i did get the mammoth during transport missions very occassionaly so it's good that's fixed.

      One of the most disappointing things for me was to see no change in the Corporation missions asking for exotic missiles...

      To date (several days in), I've actually seen the vast sum of 2 Disruptor missiles in my game (and there are no Disruptor fabs)... yet they are asking for 16 to progress on one of the Corporations? This does seem rather to be encouraging cheating, as it is so obviously not possible to do without cheating! imho this opens a whole can full of worms, as if ES are encouraging cheating on this level, are they actually EXPECTING people to cheat on, for example, the Hub Mission?

      I am progressing through the Hub Mission, and will do it without cheating, and that includes no overnight SETA, or, in fact, ANY SETA other than crossing sectors. That doesn't mean I expect others to follow my lead, it's just that, to me, overnight SETA "FEELS LIKE" cheating to me... and always has, since X-Tension... I don't feel comfortable with it, so I don't do it... yes. I'll, no doubt, be one of the last to finish, but my sense of achievement will be that much higher...

      After that, though, and in other games, I will cheat more than most, to get to do what I want... in testing, in trying different things and ships... etc etc...

      Anyway, enough of how I operate... please tell me if you feel the same about ES expecting and encouraging people to cheat...

      Hi everyone ,

      Here are my 2 pennies worth...

      1. Love the fix for sourcing boarding pods (makes it more in keeping with the fact that the military would more likely use them than Pirates given there aint a Pirate M7M)
      2. Dunno what they have done to the graphics but with 1.3 I HAVE to run at MEDIUM textures and even then I get the occasional glitch - such as...
        • an Osaka with part of it's hull invisible
        • screen rendered blank with the menus still active (I somehow managed to save, ALT-F4 and reload to recover from that one)
        • the occasional ol' SPF slowdown (no apparent reason for this - had it happen once in a certain sector but not since)
      3. Like the idea of the reduced requirements for microchips in the Hub mission but the numbers across the board still seem a tad excessive IMHO.
      4. I like the toning down of Patrol missions (wrt 1.3) ... they now are a little more playable
      5. I like the pay-per-kill increase on station defense missions ... that seems to ballance the rewards wrt the Patrol missions better (wrt 1.3 - 1.4 apparently has screwed that balance though).
      6. The Argon/Kha'ak story seems ok since the 1.3 patch - completed it (with 1.3) but have not noticed a decernable decrease in Kha'ak activity (still see big clusters spawning in Commonwealth sectors)
      7. I like the fact I can now store things at "The Hub" without it eating my spare weapons and stuff.
      8. I *HATE* the fact that Flak weapons can break even if you don't use salvage insurance (though using a salvage insurance and reloading that save fixes them)
      Those are the things that immediatly spring to mind...

      Disruptor missiles aren't that uncommon, in my experience. Clearing a Xenon sector usually nets me a few (although the Yaki seem to drop them very rarely, somewhat oddly).

      I think it depends on your game... the Xenon in my game drop mostly banshee missiles, with a couple of wildfire thrown in... they don't drop disrupters at all...

      Ok... I have installed 1.4 now and when I am in my Osaka Flag ship I still get credited with kills from my other ships during a station defence mission. Rewards for kills on station defence missions are the same as 1.3 not had a patrol or XI yet so don't know if the balance has been screwed... will try and test the graphics performance properly this evening and will report my findings.
