      Default Terran Stations puzzles?

Why are Terran Stations so big? They don't seem to do any more than Commonwealth Stations! This would seem to indicate a lack of miniturisation, indicating a backward culture, yet we are led to believe they are quite advanced! Or was it that ES wanted larger Sectors and with only a few stations they all looked so empty?

Another puzzle is why make huge plastic coffee cup holders on the factories? Surely the coffee would evaporate quickly in space?

The Terrans had been cut off from the Universe for 700 years and focused on development of new technologies and the colonisation of their Solar System, bringing great economical structures into space.

Also they dont have a real market IIRC and also no piracy and other enemy threats, so they could build in this size easily.

      That's what you assume

Every civilisation has their elements... in millitary, in economy and also in crime. Don't forget that the Yakis are rooted in the earthen culture. I don't think and hope that the terrans are like Star Trek. Too clean for me

well said Galder! Terrans have never been, and are most unlikely ever to be, squeeky clean... if we were, we'd be boring (or even Boron!)...

we are, however, obsessed with security... but, as we expand into the Solar System and beyond, I suspect this will become looser and looser as other elements become dominant... damn good Pirates we will make!!

I'd say, due to their inherited (well, almost) hatred of AI routines and the general trend of leaving important things up to the computers (due to their experience with the Xenon), their stations and their respective tasks are carried out by as large number of humans as possible. While a, say, normal ore mine can be operated by as little as two-three creatures in the commonwealth, Terran mines need far, far more humans, leading to a much larger size due to living quarters, backup systems, potentially thicker hull plating. The military bases seem to be administrative centers as well, and could house up to a thousand humans easily (scientists, strategists, you name it).

The cupholders can be an aesthetical feature, or a remnant of the building process (since we do not know how exactly they were built).

long time lurker, first time poster here.

I like to think the reason the Terran stations are so huge is because of population problems, with only the solar system to settle in for the last 7 or so centuries (being cut off from the gate network) the Terrans have had to find places to put people, not just on the surface of the colonies but in space stations in orbit. The Torus station is an example of this.

they are so paranoid they want enemies to be intimidated by their factories
and the fact they have a phobia of AI so need twice as many people to operate a factory

Perhaps these large stations are a result of their modular construction techniques. Unlike an Argon factory, Terrans can simply add extra sections if they want to expand the functions of the factory or station. Also, many of these stations could be residential or administrative, as the booming population has overgrown the land available on the planets
