Default Advice for a fan of X3

      Hi Everyone,

I want to get back into playing X3 again. I thoroughly enjoyed playing it on its release but I have since lost my save game for it. I see that there is a new X3 out, but I have also seen some info flying around about a mod called XTM for X3:Reunion.

Is it worth getting the new X3: (TC)?

Whats different about it compared to X3:R?

Whats this XTM mod all about!!?

If you could spare some time for my noobey questions, it would be greatly appreciated!! I don't want to sink 50 hours into X3:R to find out X3:TC is 500000X better!!

      Cheers,

      Donkey

first of all , if you have a decent comp (something like in my subscription, you dont need a brutal , tolal ownage comp like 3-way GTX 295 SLI xDxD i get cca 40 FPS on mine on HIGH and res 1920x1080 4xAA, 8xAF) then definitely buy the TC but if you dont then just download the XTM (Xtended mod). as you can tell from the name it is a extension mod. it will give you a new storyline, loads of new ships, one new race (well two but you cant classify the other one as a fully functional race), new sectors, and weapons. its really worth playing. but you should get the TC because it took a lot from XTM (the new race , which was expected, and some ship models, well a lot actually). you should get the TC its better in most respects... and theres a mod coming for it XTC (it will be the XTM for XTC ) so yeah get the TC.

3-way SLI with GTX295 is impossible because it will be 6 GPU's but AFAIK desktop mobo's can handle only 4. so max is 2*GTX 295

If you want get something done do it by yourself

first of all: Welcome to TXU, FatalDonkey!

To your topic: Beside the required hardware, in my (not as humble as it should be ) opinion X3:TC is a 'better' game than X3:R. This is based on the game design, the abilitys to interact, the graphics and the assortment of ships.

But both games are toped by the XTM-Modification. To me it is much more fun to play, i much more enjoy developing my fleet and universal trading enterprise (UTE) at the XTM -universe, and i feel more... ... connected to the living space of XTM. Some may think other wise but they can post here too.

Btw, to spend 50 hours in a game like the three you mentioned, is ... err ... almost nothing!

Thanks for your advice peeps. Much appreciated.

I think I'm going to go ahead and get X3:TC. I recently bought a new gfx card (ATI4850) for my comp so I think I should be able to take benefit from the upgraded gfx. It's not like X3:R looked shabby really though!

Badman: I like the sound of this XTM mod though. As one of the weaknesses of X3 was that you felt a bit lost for directions at time, especially in the early days before you had (... i forget the names so apologies) the second gun up ( .. pulse gun??) as you couldn't even effectively kill or defend yourself.

Hopefully XTC will come out just at the stage when I have a few bits of cash, say 2 million. Then I can get the best of both worlds.

      Good plan?!

      Thanks,
      Matt

      Welcome to TXU!

My opinion on this is the same as Badman already said: X3:TC is an awesome game, way better than X3:R (which is still pretty awesome). BUT even when X3:TC makes extensive use of content that was used in the XtendedMod like ships and stations and also brings new content, it just cant match up with the original XTM-feeling.

Also X3:TC is alot easier than X3:R and not more that addictive, since it soesnt take as much time to get the Capships and the top equipment, but still it offers more plotlines (XTM does also). Most missions in X3:TC and X3:R can be done in an M3, but if you try to do the missions in XTM in the same way youll get blasted out of the universe: Some missions even requiere a whole fleet to be done. There are also more enemies in the XTM-Universe itself like Pirates, Yaki and all the other ones. XTC will be even better since X3:TC offers many more abilities to be modified, but its faaaaaaaaaar away from its release.

The best way would be to get both since X3:R is really cheap (5-10) and look which one suits you better. XTM will blow you away since it has more than the double content of X3:R Vanilla.

It has more than double the content, yes. I'd recommend getting X3R and playing through it then getting XTM and playing that to get the experience, then take a break and come back for TC, then you'll enjoy each part in turn and get the best out of it.

      Welcome to the forum.

You asked the question about XTM on the wrong forum really. TXU is the home of XTM so most members will be a tad biased. And being a member of the team I am even more biased...

To get a rough overview of how people feel about Vanilla X3R, X3R+XTM, and X3:TC you could have a look at peoples comments in this thread: http://www.thexuniverse.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=14268 Just keep in mind that most people here are already fans of XTM.

If you already own X3R, then give X-Tended a try, it's free after all.

For info on what the idea behind XTM is, have a look at this: http://www.thexuniverse.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=11992

And for details of what is included in the mod itself, have a look at this: http://www.thexuniverse.com/forum/sh...threadid=12886

A word of warning tho, XTM is a lot harder than Vanilla X3R, it is more combat orientated than the normal game, but then that's half the fun IMO. ^^

XTC will be the same as XTM, it will NOT be vanilla save game compatible. You will have to start a new game to play it.

Public health warning: X3R is fun, but X3R+XTM is addictive.
