      Default X3:TC Gets Old?

      Hi all!

I've been playing this game for a week or so (20hrs in), and It seems like the game might be getting monotonous. I'm working on the Terran plot, but i don't think I have much more to go on that. While I've been working on that, I've also done other missions, like the assassinate and station defense ones.

During my whole time playing, I've only seen these mission types:
      Station Defense
      Assassinate
      Escort
      Patrol
      Destroy W Ships
      Transport X
      Build Y
      Follow Z

I haven't found any of those to be fun except assassinate, station defense and sometimes patrol. I'm afraid that when I finish the main plot, all I will have left i these few mission types that are fun, and those will quickly get old.

      Thoughts?

firstly, the Terran Missions are only one of 5 main Mission sets (6 in 2.0a), so there will be plenty to do...

secondly, Final Fury is mostly combat, so that will interest you...

you might enjoy some parts of the other plots too... the Hub Mission may appear boring to begin with, but other things can be done at the same time, and it's well worth completeing The Aldrin Missions might be interesting for you too...

X is a game where you should imagine your ambitions on your own.

Some players want to make the universe more safe other dominate the economy.

You like fighting. Choose a race and begin a war...

      There are many posibilities

As been stated - the mission and plots are by some considered unnecessary content.

I have not played TC enough yet to know how the economy and the universe feels when one starts to build empires but I know what I want, and if I am not getting it I am thinking of modding it in.

      1. A living universe - you make a difference.
      2. One have too keep up ones race relations so they don't deteriorate.
      3. Competition - both dirty and fair.
      4. Lots and lots of "fluff" and much that will affect you.

I have some ideas on how to implement some of it, but I am playing the game right now and that takes more time than I really want to spend playing games.

Hey thanks for the advice guys, and for using a helpful tone. I was initially afraid that people would flame me with "If you don't like the game, don't play it" kind of ****; its good to see constructive criticism. I like the idea of building an armada and waging war against a race. What i REALLY want to see is huge battles, with tons of caps slugging it out. right now I only have a lowly sabre

Okay, so a couple more questions:

      1) How do you get the other campaign missions? Do they just flow next after the Terran ones, or do you explore and find them or what? If answering that question is a major spoiler, i guess leave it out. I just LIKE story/plot stuff, and I don't want to miss any.

      2) Is there a way to get more camera control? What I mean is, there seems to be only a limited number of views:
      a) Internal
      b) External, focus on you (and hitting 0 to get a few different perspectives)
      c) External, focus on target (and hitting 0 to get a few different perspectives)

What I want is a "free" camera, both with the ability to have the camera track a target while you are free to float it around the target, and a totally free camera, which doesn't focus on a target. All too often I have either not been able to see whats around me b/c i cant get the camera right, or I miss out on a cool battle b/c i cant get the camera right. I know there are some AMAZINGLY cool shots and things going on, but I feel like i don't see a lot of it. Does this make sense?

Use the Num Block at the right to change the view in- and external. Just try the different keys. '5' set the camera at standart.

If you use a ship with turrets you can change into it too (F1).

With F4 you activate the window wich shows your target. If you press after this F3 it will be bigger.

you will love operating with a large fleet, I am sure... and just dropping in on the Khaak or Xenon with it is always fun...

however, you do need to learn the basics first, which takes a while, otherwise you'll not know how to manage that fleet... have a bit of patience (I know, easier said than done!), and soon enough you will find your fleet growing larger and stronger...

you'll know you've made it when you go around in a M7, keeping a M2 or more as backup!

The camera views are a little bit restricted as you found out by yourself switching the different modi is done by hitting F2 and F3 e.g. F1 resets them. To get tracking cameras, use the smaller monitors (upper left and right) which can be defined as a default target tracking camera and missile tracking camera e.g. The settings can be done under options. I always use the upper left as target tracking and the upper right for missile tracking

Hi sirrealist and welcome on board!

my 2 cents on this topic:

      - follow the plots to take advantage of a guided tour of the galaxy, showing you what you can do, may do, should avoid etc.

      - use missions to your advantage, for increasing your reputation, finances, rankings etc.

      - when you get the feeling that 'you could do better than that', start a non-plot game where you set your own goals and play that through
(i suggest you keep the saves of your plot games handy, so you can go back there if you feel frustrated)

X3 universe best thing is that there is not a right or wrong way of playing... find the style you like better and play it.

The (maybe) worst thing is that even when you will rule the whole galaxy, there will be nobody to come and say 'O Lord of the totality, accept our humble services and speak your words of command...' or such... In other words: out of the plot and mission goals, there is not a direct indication of how well you are progressing and how great your might has become...

But... not only are the people in TXU helpful, they are also great as an audience for boasting your stories and adventures, so you are welcome to drop in and share with us your accomplishments.

Thanks so much guys, I really love the community here.

      Some more questions:

      1) Is there a way to target the nearest missile targeting you? Right now, when a missile is launched at me, all i have is evasive maneuvers (this works rarely). Sine I often have "target nearest enemy" targeting on, SOMEtimes it switches target to the missile when its really close, but then its usually too late. Is there a reliable way to just hit a button and have it target the nearest missile targeting you, so you can try to shoot it down?

      2) Is there a way to continuity match target speed? This was a feature in Tie Fighter, X-Wing and probably others. In X3, it seems when you match target speed, it only does it at that one moment, and doesn't adapt when the target changes speed. I know I could just constantly hit this, but it would be MUCH better if it just did it automatically. And I'm not talking "autopilot", i don't want it to break when I move. The idea is to match a slower enemy's speed to attempt various maneuvers.

      3) Is there a way to target nearest enemy, and just have it stick? I know you can "auto target nearest enemy", where, once you get close enough to one, it will target it. But, there are two problems with this. First, if another enemy flies closer, it will switch targets... i don't want this. Two, it only actually targets the nearest one when they are fairly close. I want to hit a button, and have it target the nearest enemy in my sensor range, and stick with that target until i say otherwise. This has the benefit of not changing in the middle of a close dogfight with several enemies, AND allows you to see which of many enemies are the closest when its not apparent. Again, this is something that was in Tie Fighter and X-Wing and others.
