Question Newbie questions about missions ,trading and weapons

As you guys figured I'm new to the game. Was looking for this kind of game, read some reviews and got hold of it and man it was tough to start with!! But I'm really getting into it! so far I've read loads and already played about 25 hours (not to mention the times i died etc. prbly closer to 30+ hrs!)

Anyways few Qs. I've had a look around but there doesn't seem to be much detail in the areas...

      1. I accepted an 80k paying "very easy" escort mission, but couldn't handle the sheer numbers of pirates (esp M5's, i'm still in my Sabre so they take ages to get a couple of accurate shots in and kill. Can't find poltergeist missiles anywhere either!).
Anyways, i failed because of the above and so was wondering if my notoriety decreases with the Argon bcos of the failure. NB i already have a license with them, I'm on 26% trusted ally. Or can i just keep accepting escort missions until i actually don't fail lol

      2. Is there anything to stop you from accidentally destroying a ship once someone's bailed? Otherwise what a waste of free money .. Maybe a script/mod?

      3. I just bought a couple of damaged mercury freighters after some Xenon attacks + repaired them avec laser, anywhere you guys recommend for sector trading (I mean just transferring cheap resources for profit)?

      4. Where can I find poltergeist missiles and more EMPlasma guns for my sabre?! also i would like to buy this spitfyre or scimitar which I've heard word of on the forums... where are they, or do you guys have any other recommendations on fast M3s? maybe M4s? maybe something with faster weapons...

      5. does your combat rating affect what enemies you may encounter? i already read that having wings makes it harder (due to automatically increased enemy numbers).

Don't worry about spoilers i'm not fussed.
Sorry for the long post guys, I really appreciate you taking the time to read and help a brother out. Thanks in advance.

      1) Escort missions are some of the heavier type. Try to stick to medium to difficult station defense missions, the enemies always attack a station, not your ship... meaning even a M3+ will be a sitting duck

      2) No, there is no way... but that's just hurting in the beginning. As you proceed, you won't waste a thought about some million more or less. Just be quick to release your trigger

      3) Buy trading software Mk 1 and 2 and the trading expansion for each one. Fly them to a sector you want them to trade in and start the command sector trader (trading commands). Everything else, they will do on their own, adding and removing money from your account, if you don't assign them to one of your fabs.

      4) Deep in terran space. EMPCs will be produced on a better rate since 2.0a, Poltergeists fabs are rare... depends on your gamestart. USC (Scimitar and cutlass) can be bought from terran shipyards (Mars, Jupiter etc.). Spitfyres can only be bought if you almost completed the terran plot. This plot will also net you a Cutlass (M3+, very good) and a Vidar (M6, a very mighty ship, and it's free and unique, but most commonly without equipment, so save every EMPC you get while doing the plot, even the ones from the TPs ) Just play the terran plot, you'll get more than you may expect.

      5) Yes, definately. If you have a higher combat rank, the enemy numbers will increase and also the size of their ships.

      Hope that helps.

Yes. If you have accepted a mission of any kind and you fail that will decrease your notority with the specific race. Btw If you accept a mission in Argon space or station that will not neccessarily mean you work for Argons. The quest is related to the race of the mission giver. Keep that in mind.

As Galder wrote - no way, sorry! But while proceeding in the game you will learn some specific behaviors. Like when firing at a vessel you will automaticly stop for half a second when the enemy's hull is down to 80 or 50%. This will give you a higher chance of noticing the surrender of your foe.

Thanks very much for all the help guys. too addicted to this game

One follow up question then ... Is there anything I can do to decrease my combat ranking (other than long periods of inactivity) to make the attackers less difficult?

One more sorry- is there any script/mod/thing that stops me from having to go all the way back to the startup screen and loading all over again when i do die, it's so long!!! I've noticed a few ppl aren't too keen on the 'wasted' time. Maybe something that autoloads most recent save as soon as you die?

      Thanks again in advance!

      1) You can decrease your fighting rank by staying on seta over a longer time period (some hours in real time, leave your PC running the game on set and go to bed ), but i wouldn't recommend that. There are better ways to make money. If you want to buy something bigger and better, try trading rastar oil for a while in a TS e.g. A full load can be worth up to 700k. You just need to spot the chances. You fighting rank won't take a hit, nor increase.

      2) No. I think this is hardcoded and would require to be incorporated in the game engine itself. This is clearly Egosoft stuff and is protected by the terms you agreed to by installing the game.

Is only way to decrease your fighting rank, but the likelihood of large losses is great.

PS:You simply buy a better (larger) battle ship .

Pants- I would highly suggest going and getting a better ship like Diemetius pointed out. Rather than spend a ton of hard earned money, you will want to just go get a derelict ship.

There are a lot of threads about this you can research, I am just giving you more direct advice.

I would suggest getting the Advanced Barracuda in Hila's Joy. It is only 8 sectors from Terran Space (a reasonably quick trip) and a HUGE jump from the Sabre you are currently flying. For starters, you go from 2 decent guns to 8 guns and 25K Shields to 75K shields... and you can still go over 220kmps... so you do the math, at a minimum you are in a 300% better ship and you got it for free.

You can also go ahead and grab a few more ships local to the Barracuda solely to sell them and grab their guns so you can upgrade your Barracuda to the max. I'd make sure if you get to Hila's Joy to go ahead and fly to the Unknown Sector that is 5 to the North and get the Falcon Sentinel worth 2.6M (sell it, it is slow) and if you feel like it, run over to the Vault, 5 to the left of Hila's, and get the Harrier Sentinel (which is cheap, but makes a great free wingman).

If you are feeling particularly bold, you should run all the way down to Meneleus's Oasis and grab the Skate Prototype (5.6M!), which is arguably the best fighter along with the Advanced Perseus (Duke's Citadel 2.6M) that you can get until you can buy ridiculous Spitfyres late in the Terran Plot (I actually don't use them as I think they are so ridiculously unbalanced compared to the rest of the game, but most people love them).

Thanks all for the great suggestions! thanks for the ship info too spider i'm about to go for that now.
I have been given three rapiers and capped a xenon L (read a thread on that vs sabre already but decided on the much faster sabre), and i feel bad selling them- they're all just collecting in random shipyards/trading stations around (avoiding fabs due to God). i come from a family that has bad habits of hoarding ****. do you guys think i should keep any ships that could be used as wingmen?

basically just wanted people's opinion on wingmen... so far personally i preferred without them, due to less enemies! will that change once i get a better ship? thing is I don't feel like losing a ship (wasting money/assets) in a basic battle against some crappy pirates/xenon.

      Thanks all again in advance!

Wingmen are not bad, but the AI is quite unreliable.
You will see plenty of losses in the AI ships have to complain.

Better save money for a bigger ship (M7, better still, M2) and selled these ships .
