      Default Questions about AI Explorers-

Is there any way to order your ships to scout uncharted territory? With the explorer software I know you can chart an uncharted sector, but I'd like to send out a bunch of ships to chart all the sectors I have not yet visited without having to manually explore each border sector fist. I have not found any easy way to command that request yet. Thanks in advance-

There is no really way to find not visited sectors.

But you can let one of your ship follow another ship. M5 oor the Unkown (Goner) Ships are the best ships to follow

afaik there is not a command for what you are looking for.

But there are some 'tricks' that can help:

1 put a fast ship with a triplex scanner on follow, targetting the unknown object (ufo) - that worked in X3R - not sure if still good in TC (not even sure if there is a wandering UFO in TC)

2 buy universe maps from the folks selling em (some of the lamp bulb icons give this option) then send (navigate not jump) a ship to any of the unconnected sectors, so they chart also the sectors in between

3 in one of the cheat bundles scripts (don't remember which one) there must be a cheat revealing the whole galaxy map

i can't think to other ways of doing it

Wow the follow the ships (not mine) is so simple, yet I can see how effective it would be. I have a fleet of discoverers already so I'll just head to the edges of my known galaxy and tag them to some ships and let them go.

Can't believe I didn't think of that! Thanks a bunch!

But remeber by using the < follow ship > command you will just discover the position of the sector not the content (fabs and astros). Only if you open the universe map and look at your ship everything that is in it's scanners rnge will appear in the map - if you don't look the sector will remain empty. At least in X3 it has been that way.

And keep in mind, that AI ships are as stupid as a turned off pocket calculator. If they find a nearby Xenon sector they will defenitly cross it - and so your discos will. Not to mention the many kha'ak cluster, pirates and so on...

      Have fun!

Maybe its a script but I got an "auto-explore" command for ships with Explorer Command Software installed...its pretty crappy since they like flying into hostile sectors and die and when all sectors are explored they just land in a station and stop (I rather have them running until death since the universe change over time)

You can try http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=248033 it works better then the other command I got

      Crater-

Thanks, yeah that is a mod because I am running mod-free and do not have that option. You would think someone would program an AI with a basic survival instinct as you said- like A) stay out of Xenon Sectors, B) stay out of Yaki/Pirate Sectors, C) run like hell if you are getting shot at by ANYTHING in a darn Discoverer!

This is the small mod that expands on the explorer command: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=219385

There doesn't seem to be a smart script yet along the lines you are looking for. Maybe you should suggest it in the ES S&M forum.
