      Default Windows 7 Anyone?

I'm curious if anyone has been brave enough to run Windows 7 with X3TC, and if so, how it's been performing.

I am currenty using Windows Vista 32 and I'm not having any performance issues (except some disk lag) with everything on high.

      My specs.
      Q6600 Intel Quad core
      NVidia 360 1 GB
      4 GB RAM
      750 GB Raid
      Vista Basic

      Hiya Pirate's Bane,
hmmm any results running with windows 7 should be taken with a pinch of salt as remember the version that's currently out is a beta and the "real deal" is not likely to hit the streets as OEM for system builders until september or octoner of this year.

Personally i never even look at a new OS until the first service pack is out

True enough about the beta version, that's why I'm wondering if anyone has been (crazy) er... brave enough to (experiment) er ... run Windows 7.

I'll be setting up the RC sometime in the next week or so and will post my experiences with X3:TC here (if I can remember). I'm surprised others haven't posted who have already done this. Most of the people I know through other games have jumped all over the RC and are loving it. I don't really see anything crazy or brave about it.

      @ebyl

crazy/brave thing is, you are using your machine through an OS that is not fully tested, not supported in any way by anyone, not sure to be safe about security issues, and not yet granted to be 100% compatible with the current drivers.

So, while things go well, all is fine, but if something bad should happen, you are totally on your own.

Are you brave enough to go with that?

Yeah, but I still don't see it as brave. Just take an old hd (or buy a new one, hd space is so cheap these days) and install the OS there. In all honesty, I wouldn't turn to Microsoft support if something went wrong with one of their supported OS's, so it's nothing new.

      OT:

I only know that some games (like CoD4MW) that need PB (punkbuster), have problems with Win7. PB dont want to run with Win7 at the moment.

Alright, I'm up and running Windows 7 RC (64 bit) and I've got X3:TC installed (Steam version).

X3:TC seems to perform well so far with W7. I'm running it with DX10 now instead of the DX9 I had with XP Professional. I have seen a slight performance hit, which I assume is from the added load on the video card from DX10. The old 8800 GTS 320 just isn't meant to run the game nearly maxed out at 1900x1200 and DX10 just adds more strain. Surprisingly, it's still very playable unless you get into a real furball (same with it before on DX9 in XP). A GTX 275 is on the way.

But all in all, I'd say it runs just as well as it did in XP (32 bit). I've had one hang, but I also had occasional hangs in XP. I'll post another update after I get some more time with the game in W7 and get the new video card.

Finally, I'm very impressed with W7 RC. If you've been toying with installing it on a separate partition/drive/computer, then just do it. It was quick (35 minutes from "boot from cd?" to a ready to go desktop, including drive format), painless, and I have no intention of returning to XP unless I absolutely must for something. Vista is right out, obviously. I normally wait at least a year or two before I upgrade to a new Microsoft OS (never did for Vista), but unless something drastic comes up or changes, I'll be going with W7 the moment it's released, and that's saying something.

Edit - Oh, specs, in case anyone cares:

Core 2 Duo oc'd to 3.2 GHz or so
      4 gigs DDR2 800 RAM
      sata 3.0 hd's (7200 rpm, no raid)
8800 GTS 320 (until the GTX 275 arrives)
      X3:TC (Steam version)

I thought X3TC was DX9 only? The load could be heavier because of DX10, but since X3TC is DX9 it shouldn't be noticeable, I think. Anyway thanks for the report on win 7
