      Default Capping Larger Ships on a Budget?

      All,

      I've been fighting my way through TC and have reached the point when I want to start capping M6s and larger ships.
      So what's the easiest/cheapest way to load some marines in a ship and go capping? Can I use my 2 M6s or do I have to have something more specialized?
      I have about$10 mil in the bank and I'd like to set up a cap squad as reasonably as possible. (btw - Anything pirate is out since they are really torked with me, however I have good standing with all other races.)

      Pirate's Bane,

      As far as I know there are two ways to get your mits on an M6 or larger ship, capping or boarding. Given your budget and that M7M's are in the 50m bracket you are limited to putting marines on a ship and going capping. Not sure what joy others have had with boarding pods but I have been trying out a Cobra and have been having a nightmare with it.

      So far I have been able to work out that the larger the ship the more difficult it tends to be to cap, and I am not talking about taking down the shields but in terms of the quality and quantity of the marines you need to send in. It is often easier I find to take down the shields on a larger (M2 or M1) ship and then keep them down while the marines do the job since the hull off these bigger ships can take more of a pounding.

      But to take a real big ship you will need quite a few marines ideally trained to 5* across all skills and that costs a lot of dosh.

      My advice with 10m in the bank would be to start investing in training your marines but wait till you have a decent bunch before trying, otherwise you will get quite frustrated at the failure rate.

      Marines are quite slow so you need to get the ship you are trying to board down to a reasonable speed, take its hull down to a reasonable level to reduce the ships speed and then reduce your weapons so as not to cause critical hull damage. I have weapon groupings set at numbers 1-4 for taking out the shields fast, reducing the hull, and then for keeping the shields down.

      Once your target is going at a respectable pace geet in front of it and activate the piracy function, fingers crossed the marines will start off in the targets path which greatly increases the chances of them getting to it.

      Getting capping quite right is difficult, I advise saving and then practicing on a non-military ship first as these tend to be a little easier.

      Although ive already posted this link twice i suggest you give it a read to help you with capping.

      This guide helps alot especially knowing what you need to cap the larger stuff.
