Default Best M6 Weapons Load Out Revisited

Iíve been reading many of the posts on this board on weapons load out and I thought Iíd provide my experiences on the topic.

First let me describe how I play. I usually fly an M6 Dragon solo with no supporting ships. Iím at Vindicator fighting level, I do very little trading, and I have not built any factories. I mostly explore and fly station defense, sector patrol, and assassination missions.

Iíve recently invested in an M7 Panther, largely based on the posts on this board, and Iím currently out rounding up Flak Artillery Arrays and other weapons to outfit it. I started out in my Dragon to round up weapons for my Panther and I had $3 M in the bank. Due to my ease of distraction and failure to resist the red dot on stations, I have about $27 million in the bank and have collected 3 Flak Artillery Arrays and 3 Ion Shard Railguns for the Panther.

For my play style I have found I like the following load out in my Dragon the best.

      Front:
3 Concussion Impulse Generators (Always on)
4 Energy Bolt Chainguns (Switched in with CIGs when facing other M6s or larger)
1 Test slot Ė to try other weapons out

      Rear Turret:
1 Energy Bolt Chaingun (Set to missile defense)

The reason I use the CIGs.

One shot kill on M-5s (you have to practice leading them with a CIG).

One or two shot kill on M-4 (I have 3 CiGs shooting all the time so Iím not sure how many hit).

Four or five shot kill on an M-3 plus you bounce them around (Chainguns optional for a quicker kill).

Lots of shots on an M-6 and you run out of energy if you are not fully charged (thatís why I back the CIGs up with the 4 Chainguns).

I have tried almost all the other lasers the Dragon can use and this load out seems to be the most effective (or maybe I just enjoy the booming of the CIGs). I have been particularly unimpressed with Ion Shard Railguns and I donít understand why others like them (thatís why they were donated to the Panther, however I might sell them once I find enough other weapons).

I forgot to mention I also hunt for Hammerhead Missiles and Firestorm Torpedoes to deal with the larger stuff when I run into it.

Iím interested in anyone elseís impressions or experiences when flying an M-6.

Thats too bad, as judging by your playing style that you like going solo, without fighters. If you HAVEN'T bought the panther yet, i suggest the Tiger frigate. With the panther, you can't actually shoot any turrets yourself, as they are all automated. With the Tiger, you control 8 frontal cannons and can fly at the same time. The Tiger also is also more aerodynamic, making it almost harder to hit IMO.
(Not to mention the Panther is a mini-carrier...)

However, i would suggest greater yet that you buy yourself a Heavy m6. The heavy dragon boasts more shields, weapons on its turret and superior Generators to its lighter counterpart.
PS: The (normal) dragon was the first M6 i had ever bought back in X3:R

As for the weapons loadout suggestion, i personally use Vidars and Katana's, which are Terran and thus use the only-terran weapons. (I arm them with 2 M/AM Launchers and the rest EMPCs. I also use H.Hydras and H.Centaurs, (sometimes Skirons too) all of which i typically arm with 4 HEPTS and 4 PRGs. If i have front turrets, i sometimes arm 1 turret with CIGs for extra punching power
The rear turrets are treated with fast-firing weapons for missile defence

I can't say that I'm sold on the Panther. Originally I was thinking of an M-7 that was computer controlled, that could deal with the Xenon destroyers (K and Q), however after reading more threads on this board, I am not so sure of its punching power.

As far as a heavy M-6 goes, so far I haven't found one that could turn as good as the dragon, plus they lack speed.

I can't comment on your Terran ships as I was kicked out of their space early in the game and I haven't made my way back yet.

Basically, I have played this game like a brawler and I have not finished any story lines, built any factories, and I have traded as little as possible. I've been too busy blasting stuff to even train up a cap team. Every time I think about doing something besides fighting, I see the red dot on the station and off I go.

I did that exact same thing in the beginning playing X3:TC. When i first got it on steam, all i did was destroy, destroy, destroy. I built 1 factory which i hadn't used nor had traders for. (This was back before the patches where 1 could make 10 million dollars for a hard level protection mission at your rank!!! Thankfully that was fixed to be more... realistic.

With my latest restart i have been focusing on construction of my Enterprise. I have 17 stations linked between 4 complexes, 2 M7s, 1 M7M, 1 M2 and 1 M6. (and about 20 fighters)

I do strongly suggest a H.M6, despite its slower speed. The difference between the Hydra and Heavy Hydra for me, was nearly unfathomable: The H.Hydra being so superior.

When i bought the panther on my previous run-through of the game, i too, was dissatisfied. I had prefered my Tiger over my Panther 10fold. However, if your looking for an M7 that can take down M2's i don't believe the panther to be able to do that. Especially when controlled by AI.

Ahh a brother in arms! I knew there were other crazy people like me out there!

Well since I have plenty of money and my outfit the Panther idea is becoming quite side tracked , I'm going to take your suggestion Gululu Li and try the heavy Hydra.

You do realize that I have to have room to pack in my M2 killing missiles and torpedos. But I suppose I'll just have to pay more attention to my packing to get everything in there.

Oh, By the way, the Heavy Hydra is the most expensive H.M6. (Its 10 million more than the Heavy Dragon!!! However it is arguably the most capable M6 with the exception of the Terran M6s.

You can compare the 2 here, H.Dragon and H.Hydra.

Judging by your style i recomment the Heavy Dragon. Maximum speed of 160

Thanks for your recommendations Gululu Li.

I've tried the regular Hydra and it was like flying a bus, plus its guns were under powered. While the heavy Hydra looks better on paper, I think I'll try the heavy Dragon.

This game is very strange because the stats you see on paper never seem to directly relate to performance. This applies to to both ships and weapons.

i don't know. I love the skiron myself. Its fast and has a good cargo hold and weapons, plus it looks absolutely awesome. I have been using that mostly along with the springblossom which is just wicked fun to fly. Also, I downloaded a ship pack that had the Normandy as a m6 *from mass effect* and that was enormously fun to fly. It all depends on what your doing really.

I like to capture fighters when I have a corvette, so I tend to go for the fastest m6's available and arm it with lighter lasers and augment it with missiles. Of course, if you looking to kill m2's there was an idea to use all mass drivers somewhere. Never tried it myself, but sounds fun

Personal preference I know, but have to agree with Gululu Li, the Terran M6's rock, the Vidar is my ship of choice. That makes loading it out a breeze, as the Terran ships have limited weapon options.
I load mine out with 6 M/AM launchers and 4 EMP's so never run out of laser energy in a fight and 6 M/AM's is enough to take most things out if you can fly, any M6's or M7s are fair game and with M1's and M2's I find circling it at distane to find out which side it has any heavy weapons installed then get in close on the other side, real close, inside the structure of the ship if you can, then just follow the movements of the ship while keeping the trigger down.
Have taken out most M2's like this with the Vidar, just take any escorts out first.
Appologies for any typo's, doing this post on my phone and it won't let me scroll up to check what I have allready typed.

I can't comment on your Skiron as I haven't seen it. I'm playing my first TC game and I'm not using any mods.

I did try the Heavy Dragon and I must say it is a definite improvement over the regular variety. It handles about the same as the regular Dragon, has more shield and weapons power and has a great 4 gun split turret that actually tracks things and shoots them down! What an improvement over the regular Dragon's one gun turret which never seemed to fire! It even looks nicer than the regular Dragon. About the only thing I miss is the extra cargo space on the regular Dragon, but I can work around that.

On another note, I seem to keep drawing those Xenon Ks in my missions now. As I currently have no hammerhead missiles or firestorm torpedos, I have to use the old "lead the Xenon K to something with big guns trick". Shoot a small missile at the"K" to get its attention and lead it to a military ship or a factory with some defensive weapons, once the K is engaged I swoop by and shoot at it and hopefully get the killing shot.

I may experiment with the Panther and use the "lead it to big guns trick" to keep it occupied and then take it down. But on the other hand, I just might go for something with a little more teeth.
What I probably should do though is buld a factory loop that constructs hammerhead missiles, but right now I have a "score to settle" so I'll probably just go on a missile shopping trip and nuke the K's from orbit.
