So I've been playing all the incarnations of Egosoft X games since "Beyond the Frontier"... and am now looking forward to first: when Egosoft get the bugs ironed out of Rebith, and second: the release of Elite Dangerous early next year.

Since the days of X-BTF I've used a trusty Logitech Wingman joystick. No real bells and whistles, but it's well-weighted, includes a decent throttle with a quality potentiometer rather than switches and even has a twist-grip yaw feature. But for whatever reason it would seem it's a bit too dated for Rebirth and the initial Elite Dangerous Alpha. I am concerned that it might be a little too old to be included in hardware test programs, which may prompt me to fork out cash for new toys...

So: open question to the X Universe Denizens... What's the best joystick/controller system for a PC please? I had a trawl around, and would be interested in feedback from anyone who has something like a Saitek X52 Pro solution, especially if you have something with optional rudder pedals. Locally, I see that Amazon in the UK are offering something along these lines:-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Saitek-Pro-G...eywords=saitek

It might be worth mentioning that these will only be used for space-sim gaming. I have no real interest in using them for Microsoft Flight Simulator. [ A good friend of mine is a qualified instructor/examiner/aerobatics pilot - any time I want to try that sort of thing I nudge him into hiring a plane and we fly for real].

I'm only interested in buying quality kit that will last... definitely not interested in cheap "tat" ...

Your thoughts, experiences and suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance...
