      Cool Someone to Serve

      Someone to Serve

      Chapter 1: Living Among Friends

Cathy Harrison was the schools pride and joy, and she was tall … really tall … at 6 feet even… but every inch of it was feminine and perfectly constructed. Her hair was blond, well kept and nicely styled at shoulder length, and as shiny as any new car ever had been, and when she smiled or laughed… very rarely … everyone in the room had to turn to see.

It made everyone’s day to see her when they came in for their day of classes, and she held herself up to higher standards too, as the daughter of the Chairman of the Board of the school.

Her mother was a single parent who had made good in her life … to the most extreme you could imagine. She was a collage student when Cathy was born and instead of sitting back and raising her silently like many other single mothers, she threw everything she had into it, and her job as a teacher when she graduated. Now, she owns the school, and not just this high school either, the entire campus including the newly finished University that bares her name, Harrison University and Magical Academy.

She was not just a teacher and a business woman … but also a highly powerful Witch … and by the time Cathy was a Senior in High School they had everything anyone could ever want … well almost everything.

It was no secret on their world that Magic as well as Physical strength made all the difference in your Future. And those with both were exceptional, and that’s where Cathy came in again. But since the very first days of the current Century they served the best, the brightest and those with special skills, and Cathy had found no one worthy to be her Master yet, and many others in her class of well known Witches and Warlocks had someone by now, and they looked sadly at her wondering why someone so special and exceptional in all things was without the main reason for her existence.

But she just waved it away saying her mother was in charge of that not her, and went on like having no Master was normal… which it certainly was not at her age. There were even people in her school, or even her class, that wished it was them, because not only did they travel and live together for life, they many times became partners in everything, and many young men prayed for the day when they would share a bed with her or someone very much like her, since her sex appeal seemed to go up every year, in proportion to her size.

But that wasn’t happening, as she mentioned a few times when the brave mentioned something about it, even in passing. She kept all to herself now … waiting … for someone … that she had never met but had seen dozens of times in her dreams. When her abilities and instincts took over during the night and opened a window to …. somewhere … and she saw a young man. Not really tall or muscular, but he smiled a lot and had many friends and got good grades and had abilities that were not used on his world, and someday they would lead him here … and to her… and even in her dreams she wished for it now. That was her dream and secret, of course her mother was a Witch of very high caliber and she knew too, but the time just wasn’t right, that’s what she always said, and Cathy went on the next day after ‘one of those talks’ pretending like nothing had happened, and said nothing about it even to her friends.

But there are powerful people who watch over these things. And Cheryl, Cathy’s mother had been holding back her joining for 2 years now, and she was getting questioned about it severely.

“She’s not ready …” Was her only excuse and many on the Council knew of her overly protective ways and left her go for a long while… but today her time was finally up.

“You know of the world he’s on, and you know about Magic there don’t you?” One elder Witch asked as Cheryl nodded agreement while looking as strong as possible.

“They hid away their Magic hundreds of years ago when the Witch Hunters came and tried to eradicate them all. They built totems and buried them underground and it absorbs the magic energy so no one will be found when they look again. Because of that only the most sensitive among them all feels anything or has any abilities there, by design. But those rare persons who do gather enough to be found quickly get sent here, where the magic energy is 100 times stronger, and... like you did... they become special people and strong leaders.” She got reminded and she agreed right up until they told her that her daughters Master would be coming across soon, and then she went spastic again.

“I wont allow it!” She screamed as everyone there looked sad for her. “He’s not worthy of her, he’s soft and small and weak, and she deserves better!” she screamed as tears ran down her face, and witches all over the room looked sad for her.

“He’s dying …” The one Senior Mage said softly, as even Cheryl had to stop crying to hear. “His body is straining so badly for Mana and gaining a bit every day that its coming apart. He has no partner to share his power with, and so his own body is failing him.”

“When he gets here that will all change …” She got told, but she didn’t want to hear it and they reminded her that the decision was not hers alone, and this time Cathy stepped in from the shadows and her mother saw the set up in front of her, and as Cathy looked shocked and sad Cheryl begged her forgiveness, and then turned and said..” Fine then … but I’ll decide if he’s worthy or not once he arrives!” And Cathy quickly stepped closer and told her, face to face, that it was HER life and she would decide, and on that note the Council agreed, and Jason Pendragon was sent a message of the kind he would never understand, but others watching him would, and when he fainted in the hall of his high school and laid there calling for someone no one knew, a few smiled and he got taken away in an ambulance … never to be seen on this world again.

      Chapter 2: World Gate

In the wee hours of the morning on the tenth day of September a ritual was done in an old cemetery not far from town, and at its conclusion a hole opened in Space and Time and another Witch stepped through and smiled and hugged her friends there that she hadn’t seen in years, and then rolled the wheelchair containing her new charge back through, and the hole was quickly closed before someone noticed its power.

This had happened a few times in recent memory but never for such a serious case. Jason was attracting attention. His physical abilities were gaining quickly and some noticed he had power above his size and shape. The local Watchers were on guard for Magic, and patrolled nightly, and hiding his away was getting harder and harder … but now that was in the past… as was he.

They would know of course, eventually, that he had disappeared and they would swear they missed one. But that scene had played out half a dozen times this generation … a sign Magic was returning to their world too … as the totems got old and started to fail under the pressure, and the Magic Watchers sought them out more, seeing a new reason for their existence.

But that too would be fixed as newer, stronger totems were under construction, and would be added very soon. This world gave up on Magic over a hundred years ago, and many didn’t miss it but were forced to help out when someone special was found, and thus … the World Gate was kept alive and active …. For as long as it would be needed.

The witch pushing Jason along smiled wide when she got back with him. There were a dozen others waiting there in the schools gymnasium, all waiting to see him, and even though he was asleep his acceptance to this new world was complete long before he knew anything about it, and the real power he would possess would soon be seen as his body reached out for it the second he arrived and his Power Levels started up immediately.

Even while he slept Cathy was there, crying that he had finally made it here … home … and her mother looked sad seeing him sitting there, she had been so stubborn, but she wouldn’t apologize for it even now. Cathy walked over, muttered a solemn, Magical vow and held his hand, and the joining was complete, and his power was now hers too and she glowed for a second and everyone knew these two would be a force to be reckoned with in the future.

Now that the ritual was complete he was taken away and the plan was told. He would join Cathy’s school next week, after his memories were adjusted showing this was where he was born and raised. It was a temporary thing since his powers would erase it eventually, but it was needed to take away a lot of the shock he might feel if all this was dropped on him all at once. His new ‘parents’ got everything ready for him and even some posters and games from his old world were in his room … to add to the ‘immersion’ he needed to start his new life.

Cathy would stay close to him, always nearby, until they could be Teamed properly, and in close proximity she would help drain away a bit of his power and work to keep him safe.

“I accept this challenge.” She had said when asked, and her body and his were joined by Magic and became one before he would ever understand why or how. But he too was a Mage and if the tests were any indication he would be a monster someday, and they would become pillars of their community, and she was never so happy as when they told her that.

And when the Fall semester started again Jason was sitting right next to Cathy in homeroom and she smiled a lot more now and a lot of people knew why but were forced to never say. Even her fans knew, but their memories were locked away saying they had always seen him around and he had a few friends even the first day that he remembered easily. So complete was their control over others in cases like this.

But fans are fans, some times rabid, and Jason was not allowed to even consider her as someone he thought of more than a classmate and if he even looked her way more than once a day, or struck up a conversation, they would drag him to the side at their first chance and remind him she was theirs, in any way necessary.

The story was that Jason was always ‘slow’ in Magic Class and that only recently had he started to improve. Most people in his class were level 5 or 6, Cathy of course was a 9, and the teachers had to be level 12 or higher because they had to teach people level 6 or better themselves.

Jason was a level 3 his first day, as recorded on his way through the big door everyone past through to enter the school, but at the end of the month his level was 4 and rising, and people who harassed him knew their time might be limited. And on one occasion both Jason and a bigger boy from his class were sitting in the office getting yelled at for using magic outside of class, and then a few others dropped off the gang that was always looking to punish him for something, since he wasn’t taking it anymore.

Cheryl saw it too and made sure he knew it wasn’t allowed in school or on school grounds, while others used theirs daily and got no lectures at all. But Cathy made sure the word got around not to mess with him, but on one occasion when 6 of her most rabid fans dragged him behind a building and beat on him, Cathy walked around that corner a second later … as everyone stepped back. She helped him to his feet and ask if he was alright and he nodded agreement, still short on breath, and she said, quite loudly, that if anyone bothered him again SHE would punish them for him, and the gang disappeared from sight a second later.

“Thank you Princess …” Jason whispered as she smiled for him, this was her nickname here but he didn’t need to use it as far as she was concerned, but from him it had a certain feeling she liked.

“Starting today we’ll come to school together.” She announced as he asked why, since she got shuttled to school in a limo, and she smiled and said it was because he was her Master and from this day forward she would protect him, and he looked shocked and she laughed at the look on his face as she sat him down and took the time to explain, as Cheryl sat back in her office watching it all happen and knew that her fun was over now.

      Chapter 3: The Bond Begins

Living in a world of Magic Jason knew what this meant. She was his forever, for a bodyguard, a friend, whatever the Future might bring for them. He also knew many would not approve, but that was their problem.

The Pact was sealed, and now they had met and talked about it officially, so that was that, as far as the rituals went at least, and he agreed after she explained it and their lives as a Magical Team began that day, much to his surprise.

And he was right to think this since her fans were not at all pleased, and a few bold ones walked up to them and mentioned it too. But Cathy was quick to remind them that they too had contracts, many from other worlds, and they didn’t get to choose ahead of time either, and many walked away a lot more understanding when they thought about it, but Cathy secretly smiled and kept the truth to herself. She knew their Future, and she would not be protecting him for long. And when these fools saw his true abilities their thoughts about him would change as well.

Month 3 in the new world and Jason’s level is now 5, almost caught up to everyone else. Cathy tutored him too after school and he had some serious skills getting matured as they worked on them together. Cathy demanded he practice Defense Magic first and he did and did quite well at it. When he really tried even her Offensive Magic had a hard time getting through, and a few that saw them practicing knew that he wasn’t helpless anymore, and the word got around quickly.

His first skill … Personal Shield … was tough to crack and after a few weeks of practice Cathy declared him safe to walk the streets alone, as they both laughed. Then his offense was resting mostly on a spell called Whirlwind … a small tornado like thing that he could guide at will. This started out as a small breeze but after a month working on it he could pick up a small car and set it down anywhere he wanted. Now imagine a fight where a person got snatched up … and dropped from whatever height he wanted. Their Defense Magic had better be pretty good to get them out of that, Cathy said as he agreed.

And using it he could gather up rocks or other objects and throw them at hundreds of miles an hour, and that alone could turn a battle in your favor.

“You’re getting better, I’m proud of you.” Cathy mentioned, as Jason got embarrassed she was doting on him, and his face grew red as she laughed at him for it.

“You’re a good teacher …” He added as she laughed saying it ran in the Family and Jason nodded he understood. Her mother was the premiere teacher of Magic in the country and he knew she still hadn’t forgiven him for coming to this world and changing their lives like this. “So … hows your mother doing?” he hinted as they both got a good chuckle at that one.

“She’s hanging in there, but she watches us closely to make sure you aren’t a pervert or something.” She added as he burst out laughing, a good serious laugh as she looked surprised and waited for the explanation.

Jason walked up to her and laid a hand on her shoulder while looking UP at her and she smiled too.

“If you didn’t want attention you could smash me like a grape.” He mentioned, as she got her laugh in too. “And to get to those lips I’d need climbing gear..” He whispered as she growled at him for muttering under his breath, which of course she did hear but pretended not to.

Jason wasn’t a tiny guy either, but 5 feet 9 isn’t tall to someone over 6 feet, and when it’s a girl … that takes some special adjustment to any ones ego.

“That’s enough for today.” Cathy said as they gathered their towels and cloths and went back into the school building for a shower. She knew her size was a bit of a problem to many, but Jason never seemed to mind and it never got mentioned until now, but it wasn’t in a mean way … more like teasing … and she saw it for what it was, more fact than he really meant to say. But that time wasn’t here yet, and she left that thought go for now.

The Spring came a while later and like many other schools came school field trips. On a world filled with Magic there were Magical Trips too, to places like special areas where the Lay Lines crossed or gathered. Places where the Magical energy called Mana was richest and where Magic students could do their best work.

And like beaches and other places these became famous, and tourist attractions for schools to go to once or twice a year. And just like everyone else Harrison Academy was traveling too to see how far some of its students could push their abilities when they spent a night or two sleeping on a fountain of Mana.

They were all scanned before leaving the school and would be again on their return, and the place they were headed to had training areas where some of the worlds best teachers brought their students, so there was no chance of anything bad happening no matter how jazzed up someone got.

And as they gathered in the buses and left the school Cheryl was right there too watching for signs that anyone might lose it under these special circumstances, and she made very sure her teachers were well prepared just in case.

      Chapter 4: Testing

They had scores from their latest tests and would use those as a standard to go by. Cathy was top of her class of course, and Jason was now just mid range and even at that his scores had come up nicely in a few weeks.

Now for some serious work to see how far anyone here could force themselves, and even the Lodge they stayed at had specialists watching them too, but they never seemed too impressed with high school kids up until now.

But when Cathy was told to throw her strongest spell, she charged up her Fire Magic and laid waste to an entire range alone, and the force of it shook the ground and had gale force winds, and even her mothers mouth dropped to see her new power.

“7.9 …” was the official report and even the teachers applauded as well as the other students and the Lodge Master said it was very close to their best ever here, and Cheryl smiled a lot after that.

The entire class did this test and were scored for it, many got a 4.9 or 5.5 … slightly better than back at school … so that became the average, and when Jason stepped up Cathy was cheering him on and many smiled that she had become so friendly and open now that she had a Master … and there were rumors going around as to how he made such a great change in her so quickly too, and many still didn’t like it.

His best was his Whirlwind, while his Personal Shield was stronger it wasn’t offensive and so didn’t count here.

“Concentrate … feel the power entering you from all around.” Cathy was coaching, as one teacher mentioned she’d be a great teacher too when she graduated and even Cheryl agreed. But she wanted to see Jason’s improvements for herself, since the two of them spent a lot of time together after regular classes, and she expected something more than average here.

He took his position and stood there with his eyes closed and his head tilted back and as he took a long deep breath, it seemed like the trees themselves leaned towards him for a second as people started to notice. He then opened his eyes and called for his Wind Magic, and it started as a dust devil instantly, and as someone laughed it gathered speed and they got quiet again, and soon people were holding onto things to keep from having their feet sliding in the grass, as the wind howled like a hundred banshees in that tight dark funnel before them.

“4.6 …..4.9 …..5.2 …” The scoring went up and people knew now that he wasn’t going to be messed with like before ever again, and the final score was 6.5 … only because the Lodge Master asked for him to stop because the wind gradient was shaking the windows in the Lodge and causing damage, some 100 yards away.

“A 6.5 Whirl Wind … that’s really impressive.” Got mentioned, as Cheryl took full credit for his fast growth saying that Cathy had spent days and days teaching him this spell … but deep inside she knew that this was all him … because on this world there would be no limit to what he could draw in from the Mana around him, and it would take years to get him up to full strength, and the tests ended for the day and Cathy gushed at his improvements and Jason found they had a lot more friends than before, almost instantly.

But now Cheryl had new worries. Cathy was her daughter and top of the line after growing and studying for 17 years, and Jason had been on their world 6 months … and was making level 6 spells … and she hoped that this wasn’t something to worry about and that Cathy could control him in the Future, because a level 3 tornado had shown up on Weather Radar, and they called to ask if there was any danger to the surrounding areas from it and were happy to hear it was just practice, but the mans face said it all as Cheryl knew, this was not something they expected from a high school kid, a Junior at that.

“Try and keep practice below a level 2 on radar.” The National Meteorologist hinted and hung up, as Cheryl looked tired thinking that Jason needed a new spell to work on, something that National Radar wouldn’t see so often.

But at dinner that night something else got brought up… Whirl Wind was a starter Wind Magic and never meant to be this powerful. For powers like this Tornado should have been thrown instead, but Cathy left them know he wasn’t ready for that yet. His control was good but not good enough for massive Offensive spells, and so the teachers agreed to let her handle it, but Cheryl knew they were right. Throwing anything over a 4 in Whirl Wind was amazing, and if he stepped it up to Tornado instead, a spell 3 times stronger, the damage potential would be incredible.

But now that he had proven himself Cheryl had little reason to doubt him any longer, and she silently agreed that bringing him here was the right thing to do.

But not too far away a spy made a call and the Jackson Family Chairman took it and listened carefully, and when the talk was over she made a call herself demanding to know why new transfers had arrived … and she hadn’t gotten a chance at him herself. Cheryl took the last 3 new Transfers for her school, and now another, and she would either be forced to give him up, or pay a huge fine for monopolizing the Gate for her own selfish gains.

And that started a little war, because Cheryl informed her that Jason was Cathy’s Master and had been since birth, but that didn’t calm her at all since her family was being left out of the most powerful Transfers coming to their world… or at least that was her demand… and if her family didn’t get some help too then huge fines would be levied, and Cheryl saw trouble coming really soon.

      Chapter 5: War of Words

“Well they cant have him obviously!” Cathy screamed at the meeting, as Cheryl agreed that he was too powerful to give up, but Cathy looked angry she said it like that. “We were bound since birth, I dreamed of him for years before we actually met, and he’s becoming a great addition to our school too.” Cathy went on, as one teacher tried to get her to settle down a bit.

“Just … settle down … we’re not giving him up to anyone.” Cheryl added, as Cathy stepped down a little and listened more.

“With the 5 Great Families watching the Gate, we HAVE gotten a few more new students than our share, but this one in particular is non negotiable, to say the least. We have gotten a few and assigned them as Masters. But True Masters like Jason are extremely rare.” One teacher mentioned as everyone agreed.

“Its that bitches way of starting trouble again.” Cheryl whispered as everyone pretended not to hear. Her and Florence Jackson had been at each others throats for many years, and seeing how well Jason was doing she decided to come running in, lawyer in hand, looking to subsidize her School at Cheryl’s expense.

“She’ll be at the next meeting back at the school in two weeks. We’ll see what she’s up to then.” Got mentioned and for now the subject got shelved as the Field Trip went on and Cheryl knew someone would complain, if Jason was even close to his real potential, and she had planned for this too. But it might get messy and she hoped her plans would be enough to keep restitution down to a minimum.

Two weeks go by and the final results from the tests were in, everyone went up a level, Cathy 2, and Jason did that one great show, then was forced to try new things that didn’t cause such a big problem for them for the moment.

While he had been working on Wind Magic for a long while, Cathy had him try Fire next and even though he never had tried it, his test showed a level 2 throw before they left the next day. That was impressive itself since many worked a year to get a new skill up to that level, but Cathy smiled wide and said she knew he could do it, and Cheryl saw that these two were going to be together forever, so she might as well settle her mind to it now.

But that too got sent out and soon a second Family, the Hanson’s from a different school on a different continent called to ask why they were not informed about Jason’s transfer too, and Cheryl saw that things were getting out of hand quickly.

“For the love of God Mabel, he’s Cathy’s Master, and she dreamt about him for years, it not like he or she was going to let go after all that!” She demanded as her counterpart did agree to that part.

“But …” She heard as the older lady got the biggest grin.” That doesn’t mean we cant be a part of it.. I hear he’s VERY powerful, genes like that don’t come along every day.” She added as Cheryl’s mouth dropped open and the older lady got a good laugh at that.

“I see that you’re going to hold onto him with every thing you have … that tells me all I need to know. My Representative will be applying for a transfer to your school by the end of the week.” She said and waved and closed the screen as Cheryl felt like screaming.

It wasn’t unknown, a Witch having multiple husbands or wives, but it hadn’t happened in a while ….50 years to be exact … and Cathy wasn’t even that close to him yet and she surely wasn’t going to go along with this idea for a single second.

But if it stopped a Witches War … well she’d think about it if Jason didn’t mind himself. And so she made a call and in half an hour Jason … and Cathy … was sitting in Cheryl’s office, mouths hanging open again.

“But I haven’t.. (Ahem) I mean … I have no experience in these things at the moment.” Jason mentioned as Cathy seemed happy with that but tried not to let it show.

“It’s not unheard of on our world.” Cheryl added as even Cathy had to admit to that.” When someone with multiple skills and even a Master with them comes along, many Families want involved, they want the best and strongest genes in their families too. We have you here and I have declared you will not leave no matter what they demand, but this came up as an alternative … so I wanted to let you know.” She said as the phone buzzed and she got told that her meeting with the Family Jackson was ready, and they all walked in and sat down and Florence mentioned that Jason was a nice looking young man, as Cathy all but growled at her for it, and she looked away chuckling to herself and seeing what direction Cathy’s mind was running.

Chapter 6: A Rare Deal Struck

Florence smiled wide as they all sat down and Jason’s face seemed bright red even before this meeting and Florence knew exactly why.

“Isn’t modern technology wonderful?” She mentioned holding up her phone and smiling. “Mabel called me a second ago and said she wasn’t getting involved with our fight … because she got ahead of me … and you agreed to sharing him instead.” She added as Cathy was quick to say no one had agreed to anything yet, but her mom cleared her throat and stopped her from going on any further.

“It’s been mentioned, but nothing final yet.” She added as Cathy didn’t look like she was ready to agree to that yet either.

“He seems to be in fairly good condition, but tell me son … can you take care of 5 women full time? Because if you agree I assure you that will happen. Right now its just two of us, but if you keep gaining skills and strength …” She added and left it at that.

“I’m too young to get married and if I ever do Cathy will be asked first, as we planned.” Jason added as Cheryl smiled and nodded agreement and Cathy agreed right on the spot, so as far as Florence was concerned this was Part 1 of a done deal.

“You know, Cathy is a nice girl but young men like an … assortment … before they settle down. And things happen when dating that cant be reversed, and that’s all we’re asking for here.” She added as Cheryl said nothing but slowly looked around at Jason who was still in shock that this was being talked about right in front of him.

“I object to this whole idea as I’m sure you already know. He was mine before we ever met, years before, and I wont let him go now.” Cathy added loudly, as Cheryl nodded and but looked back at Florence again.

“I see your feelings run deep and I approve of such things but … you’ll have him for Life and for Witches that’s a long time … but we’re just asking for a little time, maybe a few months at best.. And young men might want someone less … intimidating … before settling down, maybe a nice little redhead or brunette would be nice?” She hinted as Jason just looked away and said nothing, as Cathy jumped to her feet and Cheryl had her by the arm and slapped her back down instantly.

“This is an official meeting, SIT DOWN!” She screamed as Cathy did, like she had a choice, but didn’t look happy about it.

“It doesn’t look like anyone will be doing anything until Jason is ready, and that wont be for a while. If you are so sure you have someone that can draw his attention send her over, and we’ll see how it works out.” Cheryl said as Cathy’s mouth dropped open but she looked away and didn’t say anything else.

“Done!” Florence said and walked out as Cathy and Jason sat there looking angry and Jason looked up at Cheryl and her face grew red too.

“I’m not a prize bull you know …” he added and he didn’t seem to happy either.

“Wars have been started over less.” Cheryl added softly, as even Cathy looked sad about that.” If you keep gaining skills and strength you’ll be worth more than 100 prize stallions to the Family that has you. This is just one way out of a fight that might see people killed over rights to your genes, and even though it sounds distasteful, it might be the only way out for us now.” Cheryl added as she left the room too.

“No one will force you, I’ll see to that.” Cathy added taking his hand for a second, as Jason just nodded once and walked out on his own, and she went in to talk some more with her mother.

“You know you just accepted his proposal out there.” Cheryl mentioned, as Cathy had to stop and think about that for a minute.” I’m sure he didn’t mean to… but he did propose to you in front of witnesses so … whatever happens after this...” She added as Cathy left her know that Jason wasn’t ready for things like that but she’d be there for him when he was … and that ended that conversation right there.

“Now that its been decided then everyone will send someone … need some sedatives to keep from destroying the campus?” Cheryl asked, as Cathy gave her a dirty look and walked out as Cheryl got a big grin. When the time came Jason would go with it … to stop a serious fight from happening, and Cathy would agree too … knowing he would be with her forever. But the next few months … or years … would be really noisy, and she decided that Campus Security would need some extra help, from her other people on campus.

      Chapter 7: Back to Training

Jason tried to ignore the junk going on around him as rumors started to spread through the school. But he was concentrating hard on getting better, since he was now training two different skills at once, and forgetting that his Defense skill added another. On one day he walked out to the practice field with Cathy alongside and when she started giving him her regular speech about safety, etc, he smiled and stopped her.

“I learned something new this week in Physics class I want to try.” He added as she looked impressed, Science and Magic went well together since Magic took advantage of many principles of science, and so she said OK go ahead and try.

“Fire loves Oxygen..” He added as she laughed out loud, kids in 5th grade knew that and she said so.” But I dreamed about it two nights in a row, and I think I can use that.” He mentioned as she looked surprised and nodded to go ahead.

“First I need a little steady breeze.” He said and a small twister came up out of the ground not more than 3 feet across and sat there almost silently, “ Now a little heat to help adjust it.” He added and his left hand shot a flame out and as he added it to the small twister it swirled around it and inside it and after some adjustment they joined and the little twister was now orange and spinning faster and faster like a kids top on a table. But the sound was howling like it was a dozen times bigger, and even the clouds above it started to turn while it never got anywhere near them, just sat there glowing and spinning… faster and faster…still.

Cathy quickly pulled out her phone and called and a minute later a small golf cart came running up with Cheryl and her assistant on board carrying a camera, and as they jumped off she asked what the Hell was that, and Cathy smiled and said that’s why she called.. she had no idea what to call it.

“I can answer that question …” Jason said loudly over the sound of the storm before him.” FIRESTORM …” he said and as he pushed it a bit more and even lightning started flashing above it and the camera caught it all and finally Cathy convinced him that was enough for today, and it slowly died down and he took the fire away and the wind slowed back to the dust devil it had been before. But on the ground where it had stood for more than 10 minutes was a shiny glass disk, green and thick and made from the melted sand the field was made from.

Jason stepped over to look at it and Cheryl yelled for him to get back saying it was going to be hot for quite some time now and he took her word for it and he and Cathy went inside to get a shower, while Cheryl stood there looking it over until it cooled.

“I want this cleaned and engraved, I’ll tell you what to write.” She added as the big disk, weighing almost a hundred pounds got taken to the Industrial Arts section and by noon the next day there was a crowd in the hall in front of the office, and on the wall was a new trophy case, and inside the disk engraved to say it was made during practice of a new skill, combining Fire and Wind Magic and the name Firestorm was there too as people from other schools showed up a few days later and watched the video and had tiny samples of the glass for analysis for their schools too, and Jason got a record that would hold for a long time into the future, in his own name for all to see.

“Oh my …” Mabel said softly as her assistant showed her the video she brought back with her. “Firestorm, a new spell combining Fire and Wind magic, and that sound … like a blowtorch instead of a tornado. I’d hate something like that running wild on my campus.” She hinted as her assistant agreed wholeheartedly.

“Imagine the concentrated heat that caused that glass plate. Normal safety sand turned into a work of art.” She hinted as Mabel agreed.

“I was joking before… but now …” Mabel said thinking seriously.” Have Sybil come to my office this afternoon.” She added as the lady nodded and ran to call Mabel’s Granddaughter to the office, and one shy little contender for Jason’s affections was on the way to the University by the end of the week.

And when that happened Florence was suddenly under fire to get something done too. But she knew she had one chance at this and she didn’t want to mess it up. Her people had Jason’s personality profile and he was an easy going guy, strong in Magic but shy and easily upset. Cathy was his and had been even before they met, so trying to push her to the side would be a fools errand, so she had her choices narrowed down to 3.

Cherry Jones, a medium tall girl with blond hair, a nice body and strong magical abilities. Her main ability was mind reading, something that would be useful for sure.

Then Sherry James, a brunette, with medium strong abilities … Ice magic … but a winning personality. Everyone liked her and she was attractive too, and Florence’s personal favorite.

And then Judy Miles, a telekinetic, moving inanimate objects with the power of her mind, as well as strong Defensive Magic as well. A red head, and she had a smile that stopped the hearts of many young men in the school since she started here. And that made Florence’s decision even harder to make.

In the end it came down to a coin toss and both girls were present, Sherry and Judy and Judy won and had her things ready to go by the next morning, and Cheryl saw her name on the roster for new students and another new student right beside it, and she heaved a huge sigh and called Cathy and left her know the Circus was in town, and she got angry immediately and stayed that way all day.

Chapter 8: Competition raises it Ugly Head

Cathy had fought everyone, even her own mother to get Jason here, and by God these sluts from other schools weren’t going to get their claws into him either! She had them all figured out … in her mind … they were cheap slutty women looking for a quick baby and then support for the rest of their lives, and she wasn’t about to let that happen while she was around!

So sure was she that she pictured them even before they met, cheap make up by the tons, tight fitting cloths with open tops letting things all but fall out, and very high opinions of themselves, all things she hated about ‘that type of woman’ and she wasn’t letting anyone like that close to Jason while she lived.

She was so sure that when Judy got introduced to the class as a transfer student, Cathy all but choked on thin air. She smiled a lot, had nice cloths and her hair was just so. She was one of those girls everyone wanted as a friend, and Cathy saw that her ideas had to be drastically changed because this wasn’t the cheap woman she thought was coming.

If anything Judy was the perfect girl for Jason, not tiny not large not arrogant or aggressive, maybe a bit shy and always smiling, and she made friends in their class the very first day, and Cathy saw a REAL competitor coming after all the cheap stereotypes she had imagined went out the window.

Meanwhile Sybil was walking into another class and she was just as nice, according to everyone Cathy met later on. She was a brunette, medium length hair nicely done, she smiled and chuckled at every ones jokes and dressed like some rich girl while acting like the perfect girl next door.

After that first day Cathy was in shock, because she had imagined so many terrible things about her competition, making her feel good thinking she was the top dog here. But that wasn’t the way it was, now she saw that others had thought ahead and caught her by surprise, and now she was the one who was playing catch up, and her mother smiled when she saw her going the extra mile to look nice and try and stay ahead of the competition, and she sat back watching to see what would happen next.

In the next week Cathy met both girls and they smiled and shook her hand as she whispered as silently as possible that Jason was not for sale, or rent either, and they both just laughed saying that was not their intent, and Judy took the time to let her know that this was the LEAST offensive plan going, and she should go with it while she had the chance.

“You know why we’re here, and what’s at stake.” Judy hinted as Cathy nodded she did. “Then remember this … you’ll have him forever, but we’re only here for a short time, so don’t interfere, because War is something even my Chairman doesn’t want.” She added and walked away and Cathy went to tell her mom what was going on, but she already knew, and after some talking Cathy knew too that this really was the easiest way out for them all.

And while Jason had the title of Master for Cathy, she wasn’t someone that went silently along with anything, and so when she had the chance to get him alone she told him everything, and in that way he could make up his own mind about things going on around him.

“Babies … really?” he asked as Cathy silently nodded it was true.” But WHY?” He went on as she informed him that he carried the power of several normal Mages, and every Family wanted some of his DNA in their groups for future use, and he just shook his head and had to take a while to consider this.

“Witches seek power … at any cost … and so these two were sent to get some for their Families too, knowing full well you belong to me and my Family and wont be taken so easily.” Cathy explained as he agreed to that much any ways.

“This isn’t going to happen though, I wont allow it.” He declared as Cathy got a big grin knowing he wouldn’t be caught off guard when the time came.” I might be old fashioned, but having a child with someone is sacred, and anyone who makes one and then walks away isn’t really a man.” He went on as she felt a real tug at her heart seeing him being so serious.

“Even if the Mages Association demands it, I demand that I should be there for my kids, to train them and see they grow up well, and this plan doesn’t allow for that.” He added as she agreed wholeheartedly, knowing their Family would be a close one someday and she agreed in her heart right that second.

“So …” he said thinking for a second and looking around for some listening devise or other and seeing a small creature scurrying behind something just feet away.” I demand a meeting with the Council, to hear their side and explain mine.” He demanded as Cathy looked shocked but in a second a holo-looking image appeared before them and a senior witch agreed to his request and a time and date were set for the meeting, as Cathy looked on … shocked he could do this without thinking about it more.

The Witch’s Council convened only on special occasions, and when the twelve Senior Witches sat down to hear a case their word was law, like it or not, and she wasn’t sure Jason was ready to be told what they might say, but as a Mage himself he did have the right to call a meeting when he thought something important was needed said, and so in two days the meeting would happen, and she knew that Florence, Mabel and all their friends Worldwide would be there to hear the results, and to see why Jason demanded one in the first place.

Chapter 9: The Meeting to end all Meetings

Cheryl went spastic when she heard and she demanded to know why he could do such a thing, but Jason only said she’d find out like everyone else … when the meeting started. She wasn’t too happy with that but had little choice in the matter, and so when they all walked into the room in their finest cloths Jason was led to a small podium in the center, under a bright spotlight, facing the Council which was made up of the Masters of all 5 Houses and 7 of the oldest and wisest witches from all over the world.

“This meeting is called to order.” The Council Chair called and tapped a wooden hammer to get it started and then asked why they were called here … and Jason cleared his throat loudly and asked to be heard, and was given permission.

“I’m sure the Council knows about my predicament …” he started, as heads nodded all the way down the line.” I was brought here from my old world and given a student, or wife if the truth were told. I have no problem with that and I’m sure we’ll be very happy. But NOW two other Families have stepped in and what they want is completely out of the question!” he demanded as a few on the council got a chuckle at his demand.

“They wont be staying to use and abuse you, Master Pendragon, they will come and go just as planned.” Mabel mentioned as many there agreed.

“People on this Council seem to think I have worth, that makes this necessary, and while I agree being a Transfer is different from others its not exactly unusual here is it?” He asked and was agreed to again.

“I was raised to respect women and to treat them with kindness, and that’s how I plan on living my life here. But to sire children just to send them away is beyond my understanding. Parents have responsibilities, and as their parents wont we have those same responsibilities too? I say this here in front of the Comity and everyone else … I will not make children that I don’t help raise … that’s what this is all about.” He demanded as the entire council got silent, and even Mabel and Cheryl looked surprised he mentioned this now.

“So you called this meeting to say that you refuse the Councils previous decision then?” One of the older witches asked as Jason totally disagreed.

“I understand several members of high ranking families negotiated this deal, but they never asked ME what I thought. Everyone on this Council is female and I’m sure many if not all of you have children too … would YOU give them away never to see them again and hope someone else raised them properly?” he asked as many there agreed they probably wouldn’t.

“You think the children from someone so powerful would in some way be taken and abused by OUR families??” Florence demanded, slapping the table before her as Jason stopped her dead right there.

“Of course not I respect every Family Head here far too much for that.” He answered, as eyes popped and smiles spread all over the chamber. It seemed Jason had a future as a politician if nothing else.

“He really is something isn’t he?” Judy asked Cathy who was sitting right next to her in the gallery and she agreed saying they hadn’t seen anything yet.

“If I am so special that these plans need made I suggest that not only will my children be special but … this might well be the start of an entirely NEW Family … and so why not take the time here and now to admit that?” He asked as even the Council was stunned by his question.

“I cant believe this!” One blond haired lady screamed, as Jason smiled his best smile.” You called a meeting of the Council to demand your offspring become a new Family unto themselves? What arrogance!” She screamed as she was told to settle down and sit, and Phyllis Detwiler from France was forced to curb her anger for the moment.

“And yet …” Jason said softly, “2 high ranking families … no … 3..” He added as even Cheryl looked away this time.” Have decided that absorbing my DNA into their families would improve them in some way. If that is true then doesn’t that mean my DNA is high or higher than theirs? So using this chance to start a new Family in MY name seemed totally appropriate.” He mentioned as many on the Council whispered among themselves.

“Wait a minute … I’ve heard nothing of this …” Another lady mentioned as Francine of the Family Rothschild jumped in as other members of the Council agreed it had been a running problem they had been watching. “If what he says is true then why wasn’t MY family added to this list?” She added as Jason tried to keep a straight face.

“Lady Rothschild …” Jason said with a courteous bow,” With your permission, I believe it just was. Would you be willing to add a member from your house to help start a new Family?” He asked as she had to sit back and think about that one.

“You’re getting ahead of yourself Master Pendragon, the Council certainly hasn’t agreed that you can start a new Family in your name, only you seem convinced of that.” Got mentioned, as he added it made complete sense, since Families were willing to throw their best at him, and wait for results, why should anyone give away children others thought were going to be special just to have them absorbed by other Families?” He mentioned, and the Council got silent for a second and Cheryl saw it might be leaning his way.

“No one is trying to take away your name or absorb anything.” She said loudly as Jason smiled even wider still.

“And yet you invited me into your Family the day I was transferred here and gave me your lovely daughter as my bride, someone this very council knows is beyond special to you.” He added as she all but jumped up at that, and a dirty look from the Chairman stopped her in her tracks.

“You’re well spoken for someone so young, and with what we know of your abilities starting a new Family might happen … in the Future..” The Chairwoman added as a few looked shocked she was sweeping it under the rug for now.” But the bigger question here for the moment at least is his right to raise his own children. Does anyone have any problem with that?” She asked as Florence added that if they stayed together the deal would need modified, because she didn’t gather young women that wanted a long term agreement.

“As my Families representative I agree to stay.” Judy said loudly, standing for the Council to see.

“I do as well.” Cathy said, standing, and the Council looked serious, but many smiled and nodded agreement.

“Me too..” Sybil added as she stood and her grandmother looked especially happy today at her request.

“It appears young Pendragon has a new skill we weren’t aware of… Taming…” Got whispered as many in the room laughed out loud, then the room was called back to order.

“This is turning out differently then what we had planned but the results should be the same.” Florence added, and waved at Judy who nodded in return. “And since Master Pendragon has such an old fashioned idea about parenthood. I must say, I approve.” She added as Cheryl agreed and then Mabel and soon everyone on the council, and the room applauded, not seeing that Jason might well have gotten what he wanted, wither they knew it or not.

“We can not stay in the dorms after this and since several Families planned this any ways I believe THEY should pay to set us up in housing for a Family this size.” Jason added, almost laughing himself but after a few gasps the Council agreed, and he was told he’d be told when they got something ready, and he gave them all a respectful bow, turned and walked out to the surprised looks on many faces in the room.

“It looks like we’ll be together for quite some time.” Cathy mentioned, as both of the other girls agreed. “Friends?” She asked, and they shook on it and walked out too and Cheryl thought, just for a second, that this went way too closely to what Jason had originally asked for, but she left it go for now as she got together with all the Heads of the highest Families, and two more girls were on the way, and donations from them all would make the housing problem go away, permanently.

Chapter 10: Housing on the Cheap

In less than a month Jason got a call, and he and Cathy went to the address they gave him to check it out. It wasn’t too far away, just out on the edge of town, but when they got out of the cab they went into shock. What they found was a surprise even to him as they pushed open a stiff, squeaky black iron gate to see what once had been a mansion, sitting on 2 feet of overgrown grass and with years worth of dead leaves and tree limbs laying everywhere.

“Is she kidding?” Jason asked as Cathy was on the phone already.

She put Jason on too and after hearing about how Cheryl bought this ages ago for Cathy when she got married, and how the school would help do all the repairs and cleanup, Jason handed the phone back to Cathy and laughed out loud.

“She swears she bought this for you for when you graduate and she’ll use the people in the school to repair it.” He mentioned as Cathy nearly laughed out loud herself.” Want to bet she’s getting paid by the Council to find us some place nice, and they wont see this until after its liveable again?” He asked as she smiled and whispered ‘no bet’ and they walked up a nice long driveway to the big house, and Cathy had the key which … sort of worked … and after several tries it opened the front door and the inside wasn’t much better than the out.

“Oh my God …” Cathy whispered as they walked around inside checking things out. Jason mentioned the kitchen was run on gas, and he wouldn’t be happy making a single burger here until it got a compete checkup, and Cathy agreed.

“If the kitchens run on gas then maybe the heat is too, wouldn’t make a lot of sense to run different things everywhere.” Jason added as they searched and found mouse dropping covered shelves in the kitchen, and the smell of dust and mold was everywhere.

Upstairs the bedrooms were large but the curtains were falling off the hangers and the moldy smell was strong enough to choke you sometimes as Cathy looked more shocked by the minute.

“And this was mine?” She whispered as Jason got a good laugh out of that remark.

“Wait.. it’ll look better after she orders every witch in school in here to help.” He hinted as she got a chuckle too but just then they heard someone talking and walked out to the top of the stairs and there was a middle aged man down there walking from painting to painting and statue to statue saying ‘Repair!” and they looked like new.

“Mr. Hemming is that you?” Cathy asked as the man stopped to look up and see them there and smiled.

“I owed your mother a couple of favors.” He hinted, as Jason whispered ‘I told you’ and Cathy just smiled. “The man that owned this place before died long ago and there’s some rumors he was an art collector. Wither he was a GOOD art collector no one knows, but I’ll find out soon enough.” He said as Cathy informed him that if anything on the walls was good or expensive SHE owned them because this was going to be her house, as he laughed and said that talk was over his pay grade, and waved and walked through the house saying ‘Repair’ everywhere and Jason asked if he could check the kitchen and was kindly told that Mr. Hemming was an artist … not a plumber … as he and Cathy just laughed and thanked him for being there any ways.

“I wonder if there’s a local ordinance against outside burning...” Jason hinted as he walked back outside and piles of dried leaves and dead limbs disappeared in a few seconds under his fire spell.

“I guess we’ll find out …” Cathy said as she walked along helping him clean up a bit and after a while a bus pulled up out front and more than a dozen people got out.

“Hey Bill, you here to help?” Jason called as he walked up and he saw the schools Electronics Club there and they agreed.” Then go to it there’s lots to check before the power comes on.” He hinted as they gathered their tools and went inside, and Cathy came walking up to see them all there and just smiled saying that this was probably getting counted as extra curriculum activities for extra credit and they both laughed to see her mom pinching pennies until they screamed.

“I wonder what she’s really getting paid to do this..” Jason added as Cathy said they’d find out … someday … but for now they needed a years worth of work done in a month or so, and they went back to work too doing whatever little things they could, and a bunch of girls from Home Economics went to work inside … and good thing they were witches because 4 of them wouldn’t have a prayer cleaning up this place if they were normal.

Jason told them to throw all the old curtains and rugs that were ruined out the windows and when they did he gathered them and with one good hard hit of his Fire Magic they were vaporized into ash, no smoke no muss no fuss, just.. gone … and he whispered that ordinances or not he was getting things done.

An hour later and two guys carried out a large metal box and set it by the front door and went back into town and came back later with a newer smaller one as Cathy asked what that big thing was and one guy laughed saying it used to run the house, but it wasn’t even close to Code anymore, and she thanked them for the help … and having the school Princess thank you personally got them really fired up and things started flying everywhere and in a few hours they packed up for the day and went back to school while Jason and Cathy walked around again seeing what got done.

“A good start.” Jason mentioned and she agreed and he gave her a nice one armed hug saying the place needed a lot more work, but they had good friends, and she agreed again, and for a second there almost kissed him for being the man he was, but not quite.

      Chapter 11: The Army Arrives

The next day was Monday and when they all got to their seats in Homeroom the normal announcements came on … but these were far from normal.

“This is the Chair woman speaking, this weekend we will be having a extra curricular activity at my daughters new home. Anyone that is having any troubles in classes, any missing days or other excuses can make them all up then. Every person or team that arrives will get an A in one class of their choosing.” She went on as Cathy hid her face behind a book to keep from being seen laughing, but it didn’t help, and seeing her acting like this got many people there fired up and they rushed to sign up for the trip on the schools bulletin board.

Cathy and Jason got questioned all week about it and when they admitted it was a huge place but in bad need of repair all her fans signed up and many of Jason’s friends from groups he worked with since he got there.

Not everyone was happy that the Princess was getting married, but she was still the Princess.. So they would serve her until the end … and that was the word going around… and soon a second bus was ordered as names piled up.

Jason’s Industrial Arts class, all twelve of them were coming. And Cathy’s Tennis club. Not maintenance people but 5 witches who weren’t afraid to get their hands dirty.

Cathy spent a day or two practicing new spells like: Restore … and Repair … and while she was trying she wouldn’t have the nerve to try something like this on paintings.. but rugs and curtains, maybe. Jason saw her trying hard too and went to the library himself after talking to some friends and one showed him a book of maintenance spells and he too tried to learn something to help.

“Try this one …” His friend mentioned “Its Rebuild … and it rebuilds new anything you can touch with your hands, might come in real handy out there.” He said and after trying for two days Jason rebuilt an old transistor radio to new in minutes … so it did work … but that was one small object, but he wouldn’t give up.

By the time Saturday came two busses pulled in and Jason opened the front door as dozens of people rushed in. Cathy was pretty impressed by it all and Judy and Sybil were there to help too. Sybil made drinks with her magic and Judy helped hand them out, and Cathy watched for a chance to try her new spell and when she heard arguing in the kitchen she went to see.

“Yes I agree.. if it were new this would be a priceless antique but its well past that, the bottoms almost out and all the pipes need replaced.” One man said as his friend agreed, but hoped they might salvage the stove somehow, but they both agreed it needed replaced.

“What’s the problem here?” She asked and got a ten minute lecture on how ‘they don’t make them like this anymore’ and how it was a real shame it was beyond repair.

“Let me see …” She said and took a rag and dusted all the rust off one corner and laid her hands on it and pushed with all her might. The big stove turned yellow, and then bright yellow and so did the pipes and the second stove connected to them, and when she was down on her knees they both looked new and a good checking over said that they really were.

They led her to the living room and sat her down to rest and when Jason heard what she did he wouldn’t be out done and went to the basement where people were discussing how much it would cost to replace the wiring and he laid his hands on the wires beside one switch and pushed and everything in the basement glowed green and upstairs too as people screamed and asked what was happening. But he kept at it and after a few minutes he passed out, exhausted, and fell to the floor right there, and they carried him upstairs and laid him on one old sofa as Cathy looked around to see him and as he opened his eyes she smiled.

“Over did it?” She asked, as he nodded and said ‘you too I hear’ and she agreed, and everyone who saw it either one or both doing their very best, went out screaming for others to work harder, and by 4 that afternoon everyone was back on the buses and going back to school, and with a few exceptions the old place was ready for use, as the lights came on that night and the gas got turned on the next day, and not a single problem was found, as Jason smiled his widest smile, and Cathy kissed his cheek for good measure.

Cheryl heard all about it and when the inspectors were done she was dancing in her office, throwing papers everywhere. The cost to replace all the wiring would have been in the high 5 figures, but Jason rebuilt it new, every box, wire, and switch and even though it was built long ago, rich people want the best of everything, so even now … being new again … it passed the codes.

And Cathy did her share rebuilding the stoves in the kitchen to brand new. They looked the part too and between the two of them were big enough to cook for a party easily, so taking care of half a dozen people would not be a problem at all. Of course there were going to be 6 people there, 5 ladies and one man, but even she heard that other, lower ranked Families wanted in and the Council wasn’t sure where to draw the line, so that discussion was still going on.

But she had done her part, she found them a house big enough for them and their children and at a cost even the Council thought was within limits. And of course the fact she owned the place before hand never got mentioned, at least not to the Council who paid for all those repairs and improvements to bring it up to code in the modern era.

      Chapter 12: Housewarming

In less than a month the old place went from run down junk to livable mansion again. Over a hundred students got in on the reconstruction or repair and the original rugs, some imported were new again, and paintings and statues looked like the day they were made, and being more than 50 years old even some lesser known painters were worth something now that they were long dead.

One day a squad of inspectors rushed in and through the building and by noon everything was done and the kids could move in when they wanted, and Cheryl got a big pat on the back for getting it done so quickly.

The following weekend Jason was there with Cathy picking their rooms and buying some essentials to set things up. Jason went online and ordered some food and it got delivered the next day and the fridge in the kitchen started looking better too as Cathy brought in two bags with milk eggs and the basic essentials in them too.

Cheryl told Cathy she’d never let them starve and Cathy gets an allowance even now, but Jason knew when they graduated that they’d need to find work. But work for a Witch was not the same as for normal people.

And with Repair and Rebuild they had some skills not everyone thought of and after a Magical Scan they found out that doing these spells also added a ‘buff’ to the objects making them better than new but a small amount.

Since not everyone can use these setting up a Magical Repair Shop might be something too … Jason got told … and the school would send people to him if he did to help out. Things normal people use get broken and worn out, the same with witches, and even more so. A good basic wand had to be made from certain materials and under certain conditions, not just anything would do, and one teacher even mentioned that after 40 years he finally got a Dark Forest Wand made and it took him that long to get one. So, like anyone else Witches need to repair things from time to time because getting new ones just isn’t possible in any normal span of time.

They even helped him with pricing, saying a rare item like that wand was worth thousands and repairs would cost half that and no one would complain, the repairs and rebuilds done on the mansion would have cost hundreds of thousands, and to repair a broken broom made especially for flight, hundreds easily. Anyone can make a broom, but to make one for an advanced user like a teacher or someone that earns their living as a Demon Slayer or higher, well that’s not done everyday either, and Jason soon saw that even working a few days a month he could make a decent living, and he started practicing more and added the Repair to his Rebuild and soon he was the talk of the school, just in time for their graduation.

With many of their friends cheering them on Jason was sure they’d be OK, and the week after Graduation they had a party and everyone was invited. The place looked like a Mall for a day but everyone had a good time. Jason had gotten a large gas cooker at a flea market he just happened to walk by one day for pennies, and now it too was new and making sandwiches for everyone. Cathy and the girls made drinks and handed them out and now that they were Graduates, and working Witches, they left everyone know of their skills and what they would be doing.

Judy was a Medical Witch, her second highest ability, and so she would always be busy. Cathy was working at the school as a Teachers Assistant, and someday would be a teacher as well. Jason was doing his Repair and Rebuild and set up a shop in one of the outer buildings used for storage, and Sybil was going to be his secretary, and watch over all the calls coming in for both Jason and Judy’s work.

And Cheryl left them know two more were coming, from France, Charlotte La Clare, a witch specializing in Potions and Poisons. And Cherry Frank, from Italy, and she specialized in Magical Removal of Spirits or Demons, in other words a Ghost and Demon Slayer Witch. They were both Juniors this year and so would finish their training at the school and then join Jason’s Team full time after that, and they stopped by to meet everyone the day after they arrived, and Jason was not sorry they did since he was getting a wide variety of young women now and for any young man it might well be a dream come true.

A French blond, thin but very attractive, an Italian with black hair and a nice figure, a very tall American beauty, an English girl with brown hair and a German brunette too. All nice to look at and fun to be around, and he found himself smiling that as Witches they would lead long lives compared to normal humans and his dream of becoming a Family of high stature seemed nearly impossible not to happen now.

With Cathy’s allowance helping to buy groceries, her salary as a Teachers Assistant and the money the other girls had coming in, normal bills were never going to be a problem, and with Jason running a ‘Repair and Buff’ shop right next to the house extra cash dropped in at odd times but in decent quantities.

His first real job was a teacher who swore it wasn’t his fault. His wand was destroyed.. it was an accident caused by a student going wild with Fire Magic and causing an explosion. Not only his but staffs and wands from several students too, but they were all starter stuff, but his was a relic handed down to him from his Grandmother, a powerful witch even today.

“If she ever sees it in this condition … grrr …” The man said, as Jason agreed it wouldn’t be good. He repaired the kids stuff for free saying they weren’t worth much any ways and got some more good reputation for it but the old wand was in bad shape, literally ripped in two and charred and even with all his strength Jason poured power into it for 15 minutes before it joined back together again, and the teacher praised him and handed him a nice check for his work, and the monthly bills were paid well ahead of time this month.

      Chapter 13: Team Pendragon

A week after they started to school Cherry came out with a request for Jason. She had a wand she made herself several years ago, but it barely got her through a few Hunter jobs she did, and she was a little worried about it. He gave it a good scan and mentioned that there were better designs, but she liked this one and so he gave it a boost and when he was done it had a+2 boost compared to when she arrived.

“That’s going to help a LOT!” She said smiling and gave him a nice peck on the cheek and went back to school to show her friends. It was true that power running through a wand or staff gets amplified greatly, so if that tool was above average then the power used to get results could be less, and using it less tiring.

A tool with a 10x amplification was average, and so a 12x tool would be great, and she’d see the difference right away.

With that little bit of help her grades went up a bit too, and when asked how that happened so quickly she gave Jason full credit saying that her fiancé boosted her wand for her … and Jason got a bunch of work from both teachers and students looking to gain a little power without killing themselves to do it.

While Jason started out with Fire Magic and Wind Magic… which he still used… his real income came from this new Maintenance Magic, and he bought the book he was studying and added it to his shelf in the shop, just in case something came in that he needed help with. His income for the first 6 months after graduation would have made a stock trader look good, and the account for the Family went up nicely since everyone brought something in, and now not even a large fraction was being spent.

He found it silly that Mages seem to think Maintenance of their own equipment was beneath them. True … they were looked up to by others that didn’t have their powers, but when you make a living doing explosions or chasing harmful creatures, things happen and equipment breaks and either needs repaired or replaced, and one teacher got half his classes stuff fixed at least once, and then asked Jason if he was getting into creating new equipment too, especially medium heavy tools, and Jason said he’d think about it, and went back to studying.

“You study more now then when you were in school.” Cathy mentioned and everyone laughed as Jason admitted it was true.

“I am honestly surprised.” Jason said as the girls asked about what.” People with skills need tools, but they hate working on them, many say it takes a special skill to add a boost to tools. I think it just takes hard work and practice, which … I might add … no one wants to do.” He added as Judy got a good laugh at that one.

“Don’t complain …” Cathy added as everyone agreed,” people are coming in every day and your reputation just gets higher and higher, not to mention your making more in the shop than I make teaching.” She said as Sybil mentioned she was proud of him especially when he did some simple repairs for new kids for free.

“You do know there’s a University class for this? Its tough though, and it called Repair and Creation Magic. I’m doing additional classes too to get my Teachers Certification. If you’re going to do this for a living maybe taking a few advanced classes wouldn’t hurt.” Cathy said as Jason agreed it might be a good idea, since he never made anything himself. Like many others he bought his first wand and staff from the school supplier, but they never sold advanced stuff and now he might be interested in seeing how things were made, and it was settled, and Jason signed up to the University to get better training in his chosen field, as even Cheryl smiled to see it and gave him a discount on his classes, as Cathy chuckled that she finally accepted him as her son in law.

Jason’s first day of class was a riot, the teacher knew he was coming and when class started he asked Jason how he got tools the ‘boost’ that he had been selling, and Jason had to demonstrate it for the class. The teacher was rightfully impressed and said that even he could barely get a+1 boost on his own equipment, and many people in his class never managed it no matter what.

“I get dozens of students every year coming in asking to learn to make hugely powerful tools, and I tell them this.. you cant make those tools if you don’t have the power inside you. The average student can barely use a medium heavy tool, it takes everything they have to make it work properly. But to boost one, that’s a trick, because the power inside you needs to be greater than the power inside the tool … a task not easy to complete.” He explained as people took notes all over the room.

“Soo …?” Jason asked softly as the man got a huge grin.

“So you my friend must have incredible power, because even without the proper training and skills you can boost+2 already. I cant wait to see what you’ll be able to do in 6 months.” He said as ohs and has were heard around the room and Jason took his seat and the class went on and even his first day he learned something he didn’t know and that’s why of course he came.

When class was over he was asked to stay behind and after everyone left the teacher asked why he was even here.

“You’re boosting tools+2.. I cant even do that! What skills are you using right now?” he asked as Jason said Repair and Rebuild, and that the boost was just a side effect of his Rebuild spell, and the teacher looked like he’d scream.

“But I actually came to learn to make my own tools.” Jason admitted as the teacher saw light at the end of the tunnel.

“Now that’s different...” He said smiling, “but that’s a second year class, you already do all this now, better than me! Here wait a minute.” He said and went to a drawer pulled out a short piece of dowel rod and snapped it in two and handed it to Jason.

“Here … repair this..” He said as Jason just shrugged and laid it down and laid his hand on it and in 2 minutes it was whole again. “Tada! You pass this years course, because that’s the Final Exam..” He said, pointing, and they both laughed and he rescheduled Jason for a different class the next day and he got credit for passing this one his first day back.

Chapter 14: Creation, not done Easy

The next day Jason was back and as he walked in one student there recognized him and asked why he was back in school.

“Advanced classes in tool creation.” Jason mentioned, and a few said they heard he did Repair Magic but Creation Magic was a whole new level, and Jason agreed saying that’s why he was here, as the teacher walked in all smiles saying that Jason passed the first year class the first day, and got some applause for it.

“Now then lets get to work, can anyone tell me why Creation Magic is so hard to do?” he asked as one kid said that it was because it was the same as creating something from nothing … but he got it wrong. “There always needs to be materials, just some of them are very, very old and expensive.. none of you will get to use those here … the school just couldn’t afford it.” He admitted as everyone looked impressed.

“We’ll work with local materials, and make tools from ordinary pieces of wood and steel, maybe some plastic if I think you can handle it.” He mentioned as whispers were all around the room. Now then, the first project I’ll teach you is the Basic Wand … used by every student in Magic class. Nothing special, good old Cedar Dowels, cheap and easy to get, BUT.. when you’re done with them they better have at LEAST a level 5 power in scan. So... lets gets started.” He said as he got a tube that looked like it might have maps in it and dumped out short pieces of wooden dowel and handed one to each student. That wasn’t too hard since only 12 people were in the advanced class.

He went on about structure of the materials, hard, soft or metallic, then about how different materials can absorb different amounts of power, and then making it look like it might be usable for something, and when the first day was over everyone saw that they knew very little about creating something but they were excited to try and learn.

Jason went home with his new knowledge and took an old stick of his own to practice on. His dowel had to stay at school, no cheating allowed, and as he tried he barely got a lev 1 reading on his scans, and he knew that wouldn’t pass.

“You cant pass every class the first day.” He got told and he had to agree to that, but he took some time to read the text book any ways going over what was talked about in class, and the girls all were pretty surprised how serious he could get when he wanted to be.

It seemed what he didn’t get was the STRUCTURE problem, every type of material has a different structure, either cellular like wood, or metallic or molded like plastic. Harder materials seemed easier to turn into tools, since they seemed made to absorb or pass power through them, so metal objects like swords and daggers had forever been used as Magical Weapons … not because more people could use them … but because they were easier to make.

The reason wood from far away made the most powerful Wands and Staffs was because they had been grown especially for this purpose for generations. Cross breeding with other woods and finally genetically enhanced to get them as hard as possible. The wood from one limb of Warlock Pine that only grew in the high mountains of the Himalayas cost a years salary.. and they were ordered a year or more in advance, if you got one at all.

So Jason had to settle his mind onto the fact that the structure of the wood he was using made all the difference, and he threw away the stick he was playing with and went to the hardware store and bought a 3 foot length of Cedar dowel, and started his practice all over again.

And the owner of the store called the teacher and told him that out of all his students they were to watch for, only Jason came by and bought the dowel, and he thanked them for reporting it and sat back waiting to see what else Jason might figure out on his own.

Jason was reading ahead too, and there was a chapter on enchanting, and he tried several of those spells and did manage to get one stick up to level 3, but even at that it wasn’t going to be enough. But he forced himself to dump everything into it, and even the table it sat on looked more enchanted after… but the little stick didn’t move much on the scans. Then back to the book, and after reading all night he was dead tired and he sat there with a new dowel in his hand starting at it and asked right out loud what it wanted from him, and in his mind he saw water flowing from his fingertips, slowly and surely seeping in, and he jumped and realized he had been asleep and he laughed and went on to bed.

But the next day, every time he picked up the little dowel he remembered that dream and he finally had to think it was more, and he went to school and asked the teacher if it could mean anything, and the class laughed … but the teacher didn’t.

“These dowels are kiln dried wood …” he started as everyone nodded they knew, “Jameson, what would you do to rehydrate one of these dowels?” he asked as the kid thought then said he’d throw water on it, and the teacher got a good laugh out of that.

“Kiln dried wood is some of the hardest we can get … but to rehydrate it you need to soak it... slowly over time … its structure only lets the water in at a certain rate, even though it desperately needs it.” He explained and so ‘throwing water on it’ wasn’t it at all. You needed to slowly add water, a tiny bit at a time and let the stick absorb it, and as Jason saw what he meant to he looked up, surprised, and the teacher was all smiles because so far he was the only one to get it.

“So …” Jason started as everyone waited to hear,” Throwing tons of power onto a dowel would be like throwing a bucket of water on it.. it all runs off but a tiny amount.” He said as the teacher applauded and one or two others looked like they’d slap themselves for not seeing it.

“The second reason tools are very expensive...” He pointed out,” they can never be mass produced, they are made one at a time, and it takes a long time to soak a wand to level 5 or higher, weeks probably, in some cases months, depending on how powerful … and patient … the Creator is.” He said seriously, as at least one kid looked pretty sad saying he couldn’t spend days at a time working on one little thing, it would drive him nuts … and the next day that kid didn’t come back … and then there were 11 left.

Chapter 15: Creation … Hand Made Perfection

At the end of that day the teacher told them they had 1 month to finish their wands, because he had staffs for them next, and he had to move on and allot enough time for those too. But a few asked if they could take them home to work on them and he refused saying there was still plenty of time, and he looked out of the corner of his eyes to see Jason slowly rolling his dowel between his fingers, and other kids there just thought he was fidgeting around or goofing off. But he got it … you cant rush perfection … and when he looked carefully one kid had his laying on his lap and stroked it softly from time to time, another had it in his shirt pocket and rolled it between his fingertips while listening to class. So at least a few got it, but not all, and he went on talking and reading from the book and after another week he tested them and only 5 were running pretty well, and the rest were far behind.

“That’s BS.. it cant be done, I’m out of here!” one kid screamed and threw his dowel against the wall and walked out, as the teacher walked over and picked it up and laid it on Jason’s desk as he looked curious as to why he’d do that.

“Well he didn’t want it..” He hinted, and went back to work as Jason figured it was probably partially done any ways, so he started rolling it around on his desk too, right next to his own, and the teacher noticed and said nothing.

Two more weeks and two more kids left saying they would never be done in time, and now there were only 7 left taking the class. And they patiently kept at it and on the last day of the month they got them scanned and only 3 passed and the rest were left go, and they sadly walked out.

“Now you know why creating new tools is so expensive, Reason number 1.. not many people have the patience, or skills to stick with it.” He announced, as the few left nodded and he knew now his class could really get going.

“You all have a day to use the Industrial Arts room to finish your wands, then bring them back here on Friday and they will be judged, but don’t worry I know you all will pass. This is just for looks alone.” He added and the next day they were working all alone in the Industrial Arts room, and Jason brought a length of red ribbon with him and glue and put a few drops on the handle about 3 inches from the end and carefully wound the ribbon on it until it got to the end then tied it tightly with a knot and that left about 4 inches hanging down and he left that go and did the second one.

He then dipped the end … but only about half an inch … in black paint and hung it up to dry under a heat lamp and when they were done he had a matched set, and one kid said he really did know what he was doing, and Jason just laughed.

Friday they waited and the teacher came in with Cheryl at his side, one by one they tested the wands and each one passed the level 5 test and she congratulated them all. But Jason had 2 and one was a 5.5 and the other a 6.1.. And she was impressed and said so.

“I’m sure each of you have heard students asking about mid level tools that they cant buy here? “He asked as they all agreed,” Well mid level starts at level 5 so each of those wands fits into the mid level range, and please don’t sell them too cheaply, it’ll ruin their worth.” He announced, as everyone cheered and he added that Jason had 1 wand that he should keep, or give to a close friend.

“A level 6 wand is worth a lot to the right person, better than many you can buy locally, so knowing that… I’m sure you’ll do the right thing.” The teacher said as Cheryl winked on her way out and Jason’s favorite Demon Slayer got a new wand, and she was thrilled to get it, and Jason’s reputation went through the roof not only as a Maintenance person but now as a Tool Creator … and he smiled a lot as people tried getting him to build things for them, but he refused saying he still had a lot to learn yet, and hearing that the shop teacher gave him an A for attitude, while one or two others went nuts taking orders and bragging … about orders they might not ever be able to fill at this level of training.

Another month and they were knee deep in making a fine looking staff. It was just over 4 feet long, made from rough Oak and had to be finished by hand. Jason engraved his name on it and finished it up with a Brass ball on the end, and then went on to polish it and stain it to bring out the color. Now it was a reddish staff with a brightly polished brass top, and even the few other student had to admit he had an eye for artistic work, and he thanked them for it.

They had a month to charge this one too, and when it was over only 2 passed because one had no idea what it should look like and made a real mess out of it, even with the teacher trying to give him some hints. You could barely say he even tried, and when asked why… he admitted that this was just over his head, and he was considering another class instead… as Jason looked shocked, but the third kid admitted he was a friend and he had helped him a little trying to keep him in class … and that ended it right there … and finally, there were 2 students in class for graduation.

Jason’s staff looked professionally done, bright and shiny and beautiful to the eye, and James’s staff (the only other student left) looked brightly painted and polished black with yellow trim and side by side you could tell both took their time and did good work, but anyone looking to buy would choose Jason’s instantly, not only was it better looking by just a little, his had 4% more power inside it and James admitted Jason was just that much more powerful than he was, and they shook on it and walked away friends.

And when their time came the teacher announced he wouldn’t be afraid to let either of them make him a wand, and saying that in front of everyone there at the Graduation Ceremony was the best advertisement they could get.

And while this class of new kids were graduating today, Jason got his diploma in Tool Maintenance and Creation … a Master Class that very few pass. And not only did he pass, he passed 2 years worth in one year, an amazing feat.

Cheryl shook his hand saying she had faith in him and he thanked her, and she leaned in and ask if he had been doing any OTHER things this well, and he smiled and walked away, not willing to say anything more.

And twice during the party that followed she tried walking away with his staff, and he finally told her he knew she could afford it if she really wanted it … and she looked shocked he would ask her to pay … as Cathy and the other girls got a good laugh out of that one, and they walked into the mansion with Cathy on his arm saying she was proud of him too, and that now he could make anything for anyone, and living expenses would never be a problem again, as if they were now.

Chapter 16: Less talk and more Action … Please

Now Jason said that he could keep everyone in the style that they were accustomed to, and eyes popped as Cathy asked him if that was why he was so slow at starting their Family, and he looked sad and a little embarrassed as all the girls waited to hear.

“I came from a really old fashioned Family.” He announced as many there just smiled and nodded.” So I refuse to bring children into the world if I cant provide for them myself.” He said as Judy mentioned that they were doing pretty well actually, and that much of that was already because of him.

“One by one you’ll all get pregnant… when you’re ready of course..” He added quickly. “When that happens you wont be working anymore and I need to be able to pick up the slack, so to speak.” He said as everyone got a good chuckle at him and he looked shocked and surprised at them for it.

“God, you really are old fashioned!” “Sybil added as he just nodded that he really was. “I think you’ll be really surprised how much that story is out of date today.” She added as everyone smiled and agreed.

“For instance… Sybil is our secretary and in an emergency she can step in and help, Magically. For instance if Cherry finds she needs help she can call on her anytime. Her fighting skills are great especially since you’ve been babying her with new tools while you were in school.” Cathy mentioned with a wink, as Cherry said this new wand was so powerful that she took a job she thought was over her head, and finished it easily.

“No more of that...” Jason said, shaking a finger at her, as she got a good laugh at him for worrying.

“You worry too much, but you do know …” Sybil mentioned as Cathy looked away smiling. “That we technically aren’t even your wives yet, since none of our contracts have been... consummated … yet.” She added and she wasn’t looking away either as Jason looked sad it got brought up.

“I’ll get to that...” He hinted as she openly leaned in further from her chair and asked … ‘when’ … and for the shyest one in the group to get this serious, Jason knew dragging his feet was done now. “I know you all expected more …. of everything... when you came but we didn’t even know each other at first and then school came back up and so...” He stumbled as Cathy burst into laughter and everyone followed as he gave her a dirty look.

“None of us have much experience, so you’re not going to look bad for not knowing either.” She hinted as he sighed heavily and asked if it was that obvious, as everyone laughed and agreed it was.

“We’ll all learn together.” Sybil mentioned softly and he smiled and agreed, and Cathy cleared her throat for a second and Sybil got a big grin and sat back to wait her turn.

“So tonight... I’m first... after that anyone who gets the OK from Jason.” She mentioned as he looked ready to stop it on the spot but everyone was smiling way too widely and so … Jason lost his will to fight any longer … and lost a little more that night as he officially became the man he always swore to his friends he was, at 20.

He had dragged his feet because he was not living a normal life. First he was considered a Heretic back home and hunted, then here he was some high powered Special Mage, then he got given all these pretty girls to do with as they pleased … honestly it was just too much too fast for a small town boy.

But it had been a while and everyone was really nice and friendly, and so he started the plan everyone else had for him from the beginning, and when breakfast time came the next day Cathy walked in all smiles and every girl there wanted to know... things … and they whispered about it until Jason got there and things got quiet again.

“Don’t stop on my account …” Jason said as he broke some eggs into a skillet. “I heard you whispering all the way to the staircase.” He added, as a few chuckles got out and he just smiled and made his breakfast.

“Nothing bad was said … believe me.” Cathy hinted as his face got red and he just went on cooking.

“So then, how was it? As scary as you first thought?” Judy hinted as Jason almost choked on his breakfast.

“It was …. really nice actually.” He added softly as everyone got a big grin at his attitude. Most men would be screaming from the rafters about this, especially with the schools Princess to boot, but here he was, just as embarrassed as anyone else … and many there loved him even more now.

“You know everyone has been holding back coming to visit because you haven’t gotten serious about this ‘deal’ yet, right?” Judy asked as Jason nodded it was probably true. “But after this gets out that will end and everyone will be here from time to time. If I were you I’d get some vitamins today before work.” She said and laughed out loud, as Jason looked ill and Cathy gave her a soft slap and told her to stop scaring him, as Sybil got a good laugh at their antics, and held up 2 fingers as Jason rolled his eyes and agreed.

Chapter 17: Innocent Interest … and Absolute Greed

The word that she was officially married now hit the school like a class 5 hurricane, and while Cathy never looked happier, her mother looked like death warmed over, and her fan club looked ready to burn down their house. But Cathy made sure each and every person she talked to knew she wanted this life … and was happy with it … and saying it right out in the open defused a lot of crazy people that might make up excuses to cause trouble later.

Of course many knew of Jason’s power too and they stepped back after seeing that in action. But Cathy made new friends every year, and now as an assistant teacher her fans were kids several years younger than she was now. But she always treated everyone equally, and laughed a lot when some young boy would say how much he liked her, and then she got into the habit of patting them on the head … making them look like the little boys they were … and after one or two got treated like that in front of everyone , those declarations ended too, and she seemed happy it had because hurting feelings was never her plan, and she avoided it at all cost.

But she left everyone know she was a happily married woman now and that was usually enough to make people just let her alone from then on.

And in a few months a few others were officially declared married, and one blossomed nicely, pretty quickly too and it was … Judy … and being a Medical Mage you would have thought she’d be more careful … but she swore it was their first time and BAM! And she started to growl that others had been with Jason several times but she got pregnant after just one try.

“It was Natures will..” Got mentioned and she gave them dirty looks for hiding behind Religion at a time like this.

“And you do know this is why we are all here, right?” Cherry hinted as Judy just nodded but still wasn’t happy being first.

But her Family went crazy saying that she was the most loved, or the best there, any reason to make themselves sound better, and Judy was more embarrassed because of them after a few weeks then by her slowly enlarging stomach area.

But in the weeks before she gave birth Cathy announced next, and everyone cheered knowing she really wanted this for a very long time, and a few days later, Sybil announced saying she knew a little while ago … but … waited on Cathy to announce first, and everyone laughed, and Cathy thanked her.

“You’ll all be beautiful mothers.” Jason said happily, and everyone looked ready to hug him all at once, and they all laughed knowing it, as the picture of that in their minds was more than enough.

And on the day after graduation day, Cherry and Charlotte moved in full time, and Jason welcomed them like everyone else and Judy was happy they had some more baby sitters too since it looked like half of them would be busy with their own, and people still needed to make a living no matter what Jason thought.

But while their Union of Civilized States was living well and Peacefully, not far away another Nation was not … and they blamed everyone but themselves. Atlantica was ruled by a tyrant of Biblical proportions, and he looked out from his rocky ,cold, mountainous Nation at all the fine lands and countries nearby and wished for some of that for his people too. Small fertile valleys are nice but not enough to feed his rapidly growing cities, and trading is fine… when you have something worth trading.

In years past his father had herds of woolly goats that roamed their mountains and they were domesticated and shorn for their wool which was in high demand. But without proper breeding and food their numbers dropped steadily, and while the King always screamed for more … of everything … he got less due to his bad management.

And so, he decided that taking what he wanted was the answer, and now he had one of the leading Schools for Mages that was subsidized by the Kingdom, and many came from all over to get a free education, even if the terms called for years in their military to cover it. After all they were a small and Peaceful Nation …. right? So why worry? But if they had known the real reason he put everything into his Army then many certainly wouldn’t have come.

But even having dozens of skilled Mages means little when they have no decent equipment, and as he searched for people to make him tools he noticed a story in the Trades saying that Jason Pendragon was making Magical Tools better than many others and selling them at his own estate.

Since the King had been turned down by a few high quality tool makers he saw this as a good deal. Someone so new that they didn’t know him, but he played it carefully and paid a professional buyer to get him anything better than what his own people could make, and the man made a trip to the Union to see what Jason could do…and see about making a good profit for himself too.

Chapter 18: A Deluge of Orders

Jason got a message a week later saying a man was looking for him and asking about buying tools, and Jason agreed to meet him. The man came walking in wearing very nice cloths and a big smile, and Jason shook his hand and asked what he was in need of and the man cleared his throat and started his story.

“I represent the Atlantian School of Magic, and we are having a hard time getting mid and higher level tools for our graduates.” He said as Jason nodded that top students often demand better tools. “ Our Chairman saw your name in the Magical Trades and sent me to see if your tools are equal to or better then what we make at home.” He said as Jason smiled and waved for him to enter. He showed him some wands he made in advance and a few staffs too, each at least a level 5 or higher, and the quality was beyond his imagining, and he said he’d buy all these…6 pieces at once.

“You didn’t even ask the price…” Jason mentioned with a grin, as the man laughed out loud, and told a tale of cheaply made tools at high prices and after a while even Jason was laughing and made a huge profit that day.

“We have an average of 50 students in a class, so this is a drop in the bucket compared to what we need.” The man said as Jason agreed they would need a lot.” How long to get more of this quality?” He asked and Jason said at least 2 months and the man agreed and left with his treasures, and Jason saw a full time customer coming back every few weeks and he knew his worries about money were over.

Cheryl got a few she used for prizes for her best students, and now the Atlantian School too, he started seeing his worries were unfounded….until Cheryl heard he was selling to them too… and screamed at Cathy for not telling her sooner.

“I didn’t think it was a big deal,” Cathy mentioned, but Cheryl left her know it was a HUGE deal and went into a spasm, talking War and regional instability, and a dictator that wanted to rule the world…if what she said was even close to accurate.

“King James Goodman…” Cheryl mentioned as Cathy nodded she had heard of his school before. It liked to teach quickly and then run out another class as fast as possible. Then for the free diploma the Mages had to serve in his Army for 4 years, and each year his Army got bigger and bigger, frightening his small neighbors badly.

“It’s only a matter of time before War breaks out there. He’s already offered to buy a lot of land nearby but the owners refused so… granted… they aren’t giving him much of a choice. The Mages Association has been negotiating between them for 2 years but things are only getting worse.” Cheryl added as Cathy said that making tools to sell wasn’t getting involved in any War, and that once they own them people always use them for what they want any ways, as Cheryl gave her a dirty look for not seeing the end game here, as Cathy agreed she’d mention it to Jason, and then went home.

“Mom was pretty upset about it,” Cathy mentioned as Jason thought about it for a minute then said that they were half a world away from there and if he started setting limits based on Politics then he might anger a lot of people and never sell anything again. So he made the decision…he’d sell them tools so long as he didn’t get dragged into their plans. The second that got mentioned he was cutting them off saying that he didn’t want involved in their wars and that was that.

Cathy reported back to her mom who tried to understand Jason’s plan. Politics was a slippery slope, and to refuse one person might be seen as refusing to sell based on your own ideals…and ideals… like many other things, were in the eyes of the beholder…so no one could agree on anything that way. So she said she’d stay out of his business, but sent a note to the Magic Association telling them what was going on, and they had someone stop by and asked for Jason’s help as well.

“If I refuse them and they complain it will look bad for me.” Jason explained as the woman they sent did agree.” But so long as they stay over there and don’t drag me into their politics, I have no reason to refuse them. After all I sell to individuals and schools already. The Harrison School buys from me regularly.” He added and the lady did agree that no one had said anything about his sales until now.

“The Harrison School isn’t trying to start a war.” He got told as he just shrugged saying that their graduates many times became were military people, and wouldn’t that count too? And the lady finally left without getting him to agree to anything she wanted.

And after she left, Cathy and the girls called him in and asked if this was right, and he smiled saying that he wouldn’t let them get involved in some war half way around the world from here.

“That one sale of 6 pieces gave us a nice nest egg. If they buy 2 dozen like that we’ll never have any money worries.” He mentioned as he got told clearly that money isn’t everything, and with their help they were doing fine, but he just smiled and said he’d keep their thoughts in mind, and the next time the man came he bought 5 more. But Jason told him that the Association was after them now and selling to them might not be possible in the future, and the man waved it away saying that politicians always get excited over nothing, and he went home to tell his boss that the entire world was watching, and he’d better either move slowly, or sue for peace, and he got laughed at and sent away.
